Maeda return and Bernardo’s low price

382

Brendan Rodgers will hopefully see Daizen Maeda at Lennoxtown earlier than planned, as Japan’s World Cup qualifier in North Korea has been cancelled by the hosts due to “unforeseen circumstances”.   Fifa have yet to decide if the game can go ahead at a neutral venue but that is currently considered unlikely.

Reports in Japan suggest the cancellation is due to the outbreak of an infectious disease in the country, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, which is deadly and makes international travel unnecessarily risky.

Daizen is a nailed-on starter for the important games after the international break, so having him back early and focussed on the priorities ahead is important.

I’m not having any “a bit steep” chat about Paulo Bernardo’s reported €7.5m asking price from Benfica.  The player only recently turned 22 and has the core ability we should be looking to turn into a top player – just as we did with Matt O’Riley.  This is the going rate, anything less than that and you’re not taking a talent out of Portugal.

  1. Scotland played well in the first though the scorer given far too much time and space (spacetime) to get his shot in. Poor substitutions raise questions, especially Souttar, (hope we put Adam up against him) who is a walking disaster. Had good chances at 0-1, Christie and Shankland, and then McTominey after that. McGinn hit one well wide too. Collapse towards the end, continually trying to play out from the back at 0-2, while under pressure. Clarke has done well, but he has reached his limit, the best time to replace him is now, and allow a new Manager a bit of time before the Euros.

I don’t think Clarke could or should be replaced

He deserves to take his space in the Euro’s

    He really does

Watching Scotland for the last few years, we do look a different team

He really does deserve his spot

He could smile a little more tho

Bet he scowled at his kids throughout their lives

    Just as they were born

  3. Paul McStay stayed with us because after he threw his jersey into the Jungle…..nobody came in to buy him from us.

Either he was badly advised…or the desperate Kelly and White board knocked back a £2 million bid for him from Inter Milan? 👀️

£2 million was a lot of cash in those days.

Either way….no Celtic legend would put the tools down to cheat the fans and get Lou Macari the sack, Davie Provan sad that is what was going on at that difficult time for the club….Bonnar, Boyd, Grant, McStay, Nicholas, etc, all Celtic legends, all cheated Celtic fans to get Lou Macari the sack…and get their pal, Tommy Burns RIP, in as Macari’s replacement. 👀️

So who got at the players to put down the tools?

Fergus McCann? The late TB? Or both?

Either way it all blew up in their faces with the Huns winning the next 3 titles equalling Mr Stein’s Legendary 9 in a row.

I wonder how the plotters, schemers, and back stabbers felt about that?

Thankfully Wim and Murdo came in and made Celtic into winners again. 👊️ 🏆️🏆️

PS Refugees don’t run away from any country and leave their wives and children behind.

But an army leaves their wives and children at home whilst the army sets out to invade another country. 👀️

Tens of thousands of young men are flooding into Western countries to do what?

If you ask why thousands of young non white males of fighting age are flooding into mainly white countries…you are smeared as a racist. 👀️

PPS Why no invasion of Scotland or the 6 counties by these young men? 👀️

Is it because the resident Hun security threat in these two areas would remove these young men of fighting age as soon as they had landed…probably sparking scenes which would be repeated all over the West and the multi £billion dollar invasion scam would crash and burn? 👀️

    ….oot.

    And Are poor going forward

    But we have improved

Am still proud I can show my kids the national team at a finals

And let them breathe the atmosphere wherever I take them to watch those games

    Probably Craig Brown’s squad.

I’d get Souttar to go first because I’d like to see him sorted out.

  6. I’ve not read back so don’t know the temperature of the blog but Bernardo for €7.5m is as mad as the majority of our recent recruitment.

He is not good enough end of so even less than half that figure is too much. He is largely ineffectual in the engine room of our team – of course there a few nice touches here and there and a couple (only a couple mind) of games where he has had a strong influence on the game.

He is 22 and all the man he will become and neither big enough, strong enough, fast enough or skilfull enough to be a permanent feature in a Celtic midfield.

  7. GARYGILLESPIESHAMSTRING

I would have mccoist go first so our kids dont have to listen to his pish commentating…

  8. and then defo that fat fecker boyd (and if he wasnt in browns squads then he should’ve been…. just for this lol)

  9. Weebobbycollins on

Majestic Hartson…interesting what you say about Andy Halliday’s opinion of Lennon Miller. Haven’t really seen much of the boy but Halliday will surely know how good he is.

We have not won any of our last six or seven games, despite having a fairly good squad of players.

Some have been friendlies, but you cannot keep losing them without learning from them.

Stevie Clarke is not learning. Time for a change.

  11. Celticmac

Looks like you are right, a horrible run of results

Not won in 6 games, last one against cyprus

However in the last 6 games we got beat by netherlands, france, spain and england

And drew away to georgia (scoring 2 goals) and at home to norway (scoring 3 goals)

Am not really sure how I can fault that?

You cant fault that run of results and we are in the euros for the second time in a row

  13. Been posting on here for a few months re Lennon Miller, if we don’t sign him now,it’s not happening, might go to Italy like Ferguson, Doig, and the boy at Brentford just now.I wouldn’t have been interested in Lewis Ferguson at Aberdeen, tried to put himself about, average, but these guys are obviously getting better coaching than in Scotland, not hard to work it out.Lennoxtown…..hello….or is that old Bhoys stuff….

  14. lennon miller may need to go to portugal and come to us on a loan with a 6.5 million euro buy clause

    Or…..

We look at his numbers, compare them to whomevers numbers we compare them to and save his passport a few stamps??

I think you will be in a very, very small minority of people who think Scotland should sack Clarke right now, to give a new guy time to bed in before the Euros.

Jeezo. The guy has got us to the Euros. Then, after qualification has been secured, he has draw two matches against Norway at home, and Georgia away. The four losses have come against England, Spain, France and Holland (mostly away).

  18. Good Morning Timland – Grand Day To Be A Celt…

    SFtBs @ 9:05 PM,

We only differ on what we would do when a player tells you he wants to leave for a “better” club and a bigger salary.

We also differ on what we regard as ambition.

You may remember, it was always my opinion after Rangers died, that we should try to build a team capable of taking the Champions route through to the UCL group stage.

The core and quality in the team that beat Barca was sold off, and every high value player after that was off first decent offer we got.

We know this was company policy, part of the moneyball experiment.

It was business dogma, not footballing ambition nor a real world problem, that was just pr and expectation management.

Expectation management is the antithesis of ambition.

Every 20 mn + player we’ve sold was seen in the UCL group stages.

Kris Ajer shows what can be done, as well quality teenager, spotted by a coach who had a real “eye for a player” (he wanted Martin Ødegaard as well but the big boys had already zoned in) Celtic got Ajer for a song then developed the player.

He was offered a new contract when the Club thought he was the real deal, contributed for another few seasons and was sold for a hefty profit.

Good scouting, good coaching, good man management and sold at the right time.

With quality professional personnel, doing quality professional work outwith and within the Club, this scenario is not only possible but necessary.

The numbers game business approach has failed over and over and over…

That’s why we need an ambitious football club with professional people who can deliver.

We don’t have to speculate on what works anymore, the last ten seasons gives us all the evidence we need of what works and what doesn’t.

    Aff oot

    Hail Hail

  19. Top of the morning 😎

On the subject of young development players we should be doing this better as a club as we’ve invested in the infrastructure we should also ensure better coaches are employed to help the development of our club and have them signed up on decent deals as opposed to losing players each year which appears to have become nornal and for nothing

Daniel Kelly is doing well this season and Rocco Vata both the latest to show some promise so if we play them and try we will see if they will thrive plus others coming through need to see there is a pathway to the first team

Vata score a few last night.

  20. Good morning all from a rather chilly 4 degree Garngad.

8 more sleeps until we feed our addiction (seeing our beloved Celtic play).

This international break has hopefully came at the right time for us as in getting p.ayers back from injury.

Even if those players only play 1 half of Huns game it will be better than the alternative of not playing at all.

We should not risk them on that diabolical surface next week at Livvy.

Anyhoo a packed weekend ahead for me spent with Familia and friends.

    Have a good one yall.

  21. Call Me Gerry

    Well Spotted.

I changed from 4:3:3 to 4:4:2 at the last minute. I did the subtraction but not the addition

In the 4:3:3, I had Youan in Team one and Boyle & Cameron in team 2.

In a 4:4:2 I would have added Armstrong to midfield in team one and Cameron (Dundee) to midfield in Team 2

  22. Chairbhoy @ 6.03

“We also differ on what we regard as ambition.”

    ————————-

We certainly do. What you described is “Wishing” not ambition. And it is a fan’s wishing too, what we all do. I wish Henrik had stayed, Kenny & Lou & Davie Hay. Pierre & Paolo & Jorge. Sutton & Petrov & Hartson. It would have been great for the team.

But they didn’t and my wish and your wish did not happen unless you invent an alternative reality where you could have paid them what they wanted and fulfilled their ambitions, to play at the highest level they were capable of. And you can do this with a club in a peripheral league that is predated upon by bigger clubs and smaller richer ones like Bournemouth, Brentford, Southampton and Celta Vigo.

Because they have ambitions- targets they can achieve by their own personal efforts. Not wishes and dreams that we have. Not scenarios where we can pretend, if we just did that; success and riches and player satisfaction automatically happens.

Now, if there was a real world team in Poland, Austria, Belgium, Denmark that was doing that and regularly getting to latter stages of the top Euro competitions, I would adjust my view of reality. But, all we get are the outliers who have one or two good seasons in Europe like we had 15-20 years ago in a landscape that is much changed since then
