Atletico Madrid, happy for them? Not an easy one. I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974. They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.
Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons. Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.
As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany. “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.
It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico. Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic. Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League. This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.
I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals. Where were they in December 2012?

My friends in Celtic,
Atletico Madrid : I can forgive but never forget. For a man of the stature ( Even at that time ) of Billy McNeil to publically label them scum tells its own story.
It was three reds going on eight, and the most annoying thing is that they proved in the 2nd leg that they could actually play football when they beat us 2-0.
Anyway time is indeed a healer and I now hope they actually win the Champions league.
Ref the Indy debate : It is entirely understandable that it features prominently in dialogue and debate on this blog. It is a monumental decision that will be made on the 18th of September that will impact on all our domestic and foreign affairs, including football and more specifically Celtic.
It cannot be ignored as some would wish.
HH..

I thot it was the mib who reffed the Rovers game.

The Jackie Mac situation in its self may have nothing to do with celtic.
But IMHO celtic along with every other club in Scotland need to take thier share of resposibility that the same rouges are still sitting on the 6th floor of Hampden.

Thanks for the reply.
I remember the Dixie penalty well. I watched that from the back of the Old Celtic End.
the penalties were at the far end.
It’s funny how we remember different games from the perspective we had in the park. Unlike now, with season tickets, when they are all from the same viewpoint .
Although, with the dwindling crowds ,we can near enough pick our spot again.

Absolutely spot on mate.
Tonight’s menu is homemade Steak Pie followed by homemade apple and mixed berry crumble and ice cream
I’m just glad Sally isn’t suspended on Saturday, that would have been really unfair on United.

Moonbeams WD. Rooting for Wee Oscar. Voting ‘YES’ on the 18th of September. Kano’s yer man.
I think the style of the question is interesting.
Voters will be asked the yes/no question: “Should Scotland be an independent country?”
I don;t see how anyoone can argue that it shouldn’t.
It is your personal circumstances possibly financially and your thoughts on Britishness.
For me it is becoming a no brainer. I have read the white paper and I don’t own a home. I can’t at this minute afford it. I live in rented accomodation which is privately owned because I earn too much between myself and my wife to get a council house. What have I got to lose? Not much I don’t have much!

1974 v Atletico Madrid I was in the jungle as well as a 15 year old.
I’ll forgive and forget as soon as Davie Hay says he’s happy to let bygones be bygones. Maybe someone can remind me when that happens.

What if someone isn’t happy with the staus quo but isn’t happy with what separatism has to offer?
———————————————-
The they should mobilise support for change from within. Someone mentioned earlier that SNP support had been gained from disillisionment with Labour. I think that is a correct analysis. Labour needed to move to the Right to win in the UK and did so under Blair and Brown. This disenfranchised many Scottish Labour voters who saw a Labour Party that no longer represented them. In a lot of ways, it is the vaccum that Labour left which the SNP has filled – promising a better form of representation under what is being marketed as “independence”.
I think that is a reasonable summation.
I would like to see someone forecasting what would happen with a No vote and a Yes
In the government / political parties sense
I feel many people could be surprised by what is liable to happen if Yes wins
Livibhoy
like you I have read the white paper. i have also viewed and read all the Business for Scotland lectures and information and searched various ohter sources of information. I have also tried to find soutrces of information to refute all the YES campaign info. As yet I have managed to find 1 reasonable attemp but it failed on various levels.
The information is out there for anyone willing to take a few hours to look althought the white paper itself did take a while to chore through.
I was a definite NO when this all came up but at the time that was base don nothing but gut feeling.
I think if anyone was to look and source the information and attempt to find and refute the YES camps info they would struggle to coem up with a plausable reason not to vote YES.
Just my opinion basded on my own experience.
MWD he says YES and apologises top SFTB for talking about it again. Now back to SEVCO
Moonbeams WD. Rooting for Wee Oscar. Voting ‘YES’ on the 18th of September. Kano’s yer man.
I have done the same. It’s not something to be taken lightly.

Oh! And in and Independent Scotland my English and Grammar will be so much better.

Only just catching up.
I stand corrected on this one.
If I recall correctly, any chance of resolving this dilemma was obstructed by Cameron’s refusal, no doubt egged on by Scottish Labour MPs to allow a devo max option on the ballot paper.

The four Europa League semi-finalists could be Benfica, Juve, Porto and Valencia. I think 3 of them have been CL finalists (2 of them, former winners) and Benfica were 2 times winners and 5 times runners up in the EC and have twice been CL quarter finalists.
I think the Europa competition is beginning to be taken more seriously by the bigger clubs. Aalkmar and Basel are the minnows left from the smaller leagues.

I have checked it out. We will be very low priority. Virtually no chance of getting a house in Edinburgh. My wife could lie and say I have left her and she is homeless but I don;t work in that format.
I will get there.

You could also be made homeless at any time if your current landlord decides to sell the property. He/she would have to give you notice but that is a possibility. .
