Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round. Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray. Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.
Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England. They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

That may be the case but it is what it is. What is your solution? Contact UEFA and say, You know what UEFA, we feel really sorry for Legia, just let them take the CL place.
Celtic don’t make the rules, UEFA do and Legia broke them, end of story. We may not deserve to be in the draw but we are.

I would say I accept but the point is being missed; the squad is poor and there will be no investment

I get it with Ronny trying it his way, but not with this team that has prob most of them playing a diff game for the last three years, maybe he should sit down take a look at their strengths and work from there, the complete overhaul is just to early in my opinion, maybe take a wee hour every day in his training at the end explaining to the players what he would be looking for down the road at some point and take it aboard as homework for the future, but right now look at some games from last year and pick out the good points, a wee tweet here and there baby steps before the big ones, as I said just my opinion, good luck to him anyway.

I feel very very sorry for Legia, for fans, players and especially for the poor soul who made the error. We all make mistakes but most aren’t so costly.
And yes, I feel a bit embarrassed for celtic progressing in this way but delighted at the same time. If destiny gives you a get out of jail card like this it just might mean it has great things in store for us. :)

Singapore Celt, I’m seeing today as a victory for the Celtic support. Despite our team getting horses and our worst deficiencies exposed we still go through. That has the effect of securing much needed income and further coefficient points but more importantly underlines how poor we are and need for investment now.
If we are to support Ronny then we better ask him what he can do with a few extra million between now and the Champions League Qualifiers.
That’s guaranteed income for the Europa league that we can and should use now. If that money is spent wisely then we may have a better chance at further income in the champions league if not then its a better player for the Europa and some coefficient points, kudos, tickets sold, tv money etc.
Will Peter Lawell take the chance?
Amidst all the euphoria of getting back into the Champions League, has nobody noticed that we are NOT in the draw for the Petrofac Training Cup? What happened there?

We were poor on Wednesday but such is life… Legia play in UEFA’s competition to their rules.. this is a professional football team and should not be making errors like that. In amateur football, teams get lobbed out of cup competitions for fielding ineligible players so why should professionals be different ?

Surprisingly close to the consensus view amongst our 5s players last night, including some people you’ve crossed swords with.
We were, maybe, a bit more sceptical about whether RD would compromise though and worried about who he’d buy, if given money, as the first signing of Jan Inge Berget did not inspire.
Still, we’ve started so we might as well back the guy and give him a fairer crack of the whip in the hope that he can walk half as good as he can talk.

Tonyd I think you’re right. Ronnie may also have to accept that his ideal game plan may not suit a team like celtic. There are aspects of what he wants to do that are good but he has stepped up a level from norwegian domestic football and some stuff won’t work.
