Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round. Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray. Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.
Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England. They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.
If you missed it, today’s earlier article on Lady Luck, HMRC and money is here.
Join the Celtic Graves Society, Fergus McCann and many more at Kilsyth Cemetery on Saturday, 18 August, to commemorate the final resting place of the great Jimmy Quinn. Full details below or at Celtic Graves.

acgr,
Obsessed I tells ya :oD))))
I’m quite happy for the same uproar to happen in two weeks but lets sit back and see what happens.
Oh look Fraser Forsters price has just gone up.
RWE, take off the blinkers. We are a very very poor side.
My question is clear, rather than rely on Admin errors, when we going to improve or team??????

I would say I accept but the point is being missed; the squad is poor and there will be no investment
We are at this moment in time a poor team.
Ok now you all hate the truth but bollocks to the silence by Lawelll and Co.
For the record I contribute to CFC however it doesn’t take away the fact we are a poor team.

Good you point that out – otherwise it might have escaped our attention.
Have you missed the blog over teh past few days? Don’t think anyone is claiming we’re a good team right now. Although – how we got to be so bad from a few months ago is interesting…
Oh great, sell him

Bless you for being soooooooo disappointed, ya wee soul…… :)

Getting pumped 6-1 and then expecting the same players to advance at a higher level in the next round is fanciful……
The same players playing in the same formation with the same attitude and application would get pumped, I agree.
But I would hope that both players and management have learned some lessons. With a couple more games under our belt and maybe a new face or two…………
The subsequent Europa League run that Celtic got, via Sion’s dismissal, was, I think, crucial for Neil Lennon to find his feet as a manager and helped his team gain confidence.
Six guaranteed games could do the same for Deila and give his players something to aspire to.
I think it is time for Celtic supporters to shed their shame and guilt over rules being applied.

Celtic fans calling our CEO ‘Liewell’ is taken direct from the huns and an absolute disgrace. So huns are now dictating how we should address our own CEO? Not for me.

I get it with Ronny trying it his way, but not with this team that has prob most of them playing a diff game for the last three years, maybe he should sit down take a look at their strengths and work from there, the complete overhaul is just to early in my opinion, maybe take a wee hour every day in his training at the end explaining to the players what he would be looking for down the road at some point and take it aboard as homework for the future, but right now look at some games from last year and pick out the good points, a wee tweet here and there baby steps before the big ones, as I said just my opinion, good luck to him anyway.

Spot on. The weird thing is, RD stated that the move to his style of play would be an evolution rather than a revolution. But that ain’t what he’s tried.
67 if your not your kidding yourself on. We are extremely poor. BTW it pains me to say it but we are. I’ll continue to invest as I have done since I was 16 but the blinkers need to be taken off. Ang AGM I have been they don’t answer the honest man questions? UEFA obviously do but Lawell and Co? Absolutely not. Lennon was right to walk! Our board need a really good look at themselves

Amateur errors seperate the amateurs from the professionals

Reminds me of the ole quote from Red Adair (allegedly) : “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.”

You come across as a serial gloater, who is hoping we , Celtic, get humped again in the next round so that you can come back on here and say “I told you so”..
You are a pathetic excuse for a Celtic supporter!
You came on today looking for a reaction.
You have got one, now beat it.
If I can quote one of our esteemd posters GIRUY!

Everything was pointing to a Celtic defeat and they were victorious, surely a referendum lesson, never trust the poles. #indyref #celtic

You need to stop attending sevco AGMs …… Celtic finances are well documented at each AGM, and AUDITED ……. CHUCKIE
some have mentioned that legia are a mere 10th in the Polish League – tho none have pointed out that there are only 4 points seperating the first 12 teams in the league !

Ah Philbhoy, Leave Singapore Celt alone, I’m knocking a great craic out of his posts.
If Ronny D, doesn’t implement Walter Smith tactics in the first leg in Slovenia …. Will he get a slap room the dish, or a firm handshake n pat on the back for trusting any football philosophy other than anti-football
67Heaven … I am Neil Lennon ….The angels are with Wee Oscar in Heaven.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors
Burst out laughing at that one myself
Corkcelt,
If only you know.
Philbhoy – really? Ok mate I will stop raising the tens of thousands of pounds for all things.
Philbhoy I’m back next month, happy to meet for a pint to discuss our under perfoming club.
Ronny handled the slavering MSM gits with aplomb. They really are pondlife.

Sorry Bud!
For the record go and have a chat with the Kano Foundation they will keep you posted.
@celticservant: Bad news. UEFA spokesman now saying Legia have strong grounds to win an appeal. Isn’t looking so good now http://t.co/kttad8phZc

You don’t come accross as the type of person, er, I would want to go for a pint with.
No disrespect meant.
You don’t like the blunt truth then? I can’t be bothered anyway. I have another charity golf event so maybe donate it to Lawell.

We are the best team in the World …… Hail hail the Celts are here …… For 58 years of my life, they have brought me unbridled joy, with the period since late 2011 being SIMPLY THE BEST period of all …… GIRFUT

Two very separate issues my friend, but then I think you know that.
Conflate all you want, and distort all you want, but I repeat what others have said (including myself today) our team did not play well against Legia. No one has said that. No one has said that we don’t need to change/improve.
The issue you raised and then conflated with our performance was the month long rule breaking by Legia that led to them losing the tie overall.
Are you seriously advocating that Celtic should refuse to accept the 0-3 result for the home leg?
As corkcelt suggests, maybe you are just having a laugh at our expense, but if not…can I suggest that you look straight ahead into the mirror. You will see two big things sticking out either side of your eyes. They are called blinkers.
HH
If anything we have to hope that the Legia debacle has forced RD to consider his philosophy. His tenure at Stromgodset took him 5 years to produce a championship winning team. With us he has came in and tried to force a new system & playing philosophy on a championship winning team in 6 weeks.
It was always destined to produce the shambolic performances against a seasoned European team. Maybe now, he can admit to himself that trying to bludgeon his tactics onto a team that clearly does not have the quality to produce them requires a rethink.
This team needs a lot more than 6 weeks to transition from how it has played over the last 3-4 years. I don’t know whether it was naivety or arrogance on Delia’s part to think they could adapt so quickly. The irony of the current situation is that it is Delia himself who has to adapt how he transitions the team. I still believe he can do it.
A 70/30 winning, gut busting, turnagamearound, bone fide Hero please with a capital H…
If I am correct in my belief that we were outclassed by Legia because so many players played badly, then we have a chance against Maribor because, logically, these mainly decent players will perform better than they did. If, however, the people who know more about football and finances than do Messrs Deila and Lawwell are correct, then we will be well and truly gubbed by the Slovenian Champions. Let`s see.
JJ
Good Afternoon Timland
What a bunch of Jammy Bassas we are!
We may have a wee joker in our pack for the Maribor games.
Did anyone else notice the effectiveness of the link up play between Callum McGregor and Wee Jamesy in the latter stages of Wednesday’s game?
I would just love to see those two feeding the likes of Stevie May in a 4-2-3-1 or similar.
I still have reservations about KC being able to play the style Ronny is trying to implement.. he does give away possession a bit too much with his first touch in my eyes, which is not so good for a player who should be receiving a lot of passes, partly due to him being marked pretty tightly I admit, simply cos they don’t want him getting a shot away.. Henderson could do a job there in CAM from what I see, retaining possession and splaying balls out to Jamesy and Callum who can swap sides and generally wreak havoc. The new guy Berget is a possibility there but I know nothing about him apart from he is generally a No. 10. Pukki should be up front for me in our current squad (to be subbed around 60-70 mins by Griffiths cos Pukki is not that fit) due to his immaculate timing of runs but we really need an established lone ST. Most chances from open play can be taken by our wingers and ST rather than our CAM.
People were shocked with our defending on Wednesday, but we were missing the chemistry from our first choice back four, and the second goal only came after we sacrificed our CDM (charlie to CB for Lustig) in order to bring on another striker. Which was correct.
Efe’s sending off was the catalyst for this dire result in my eyes. This was due to a momentary lack of concentration, probably due to mental fatigue. He has got his well deserved rest now so that also gives me hope. Looking back at game in Warsaw we played pretty well with 10 men until 80 mins… of course that is always the most difficult time when playing with ten men, because everyone has to work much harder off the ball and physical fatigue sets in earlier, which also triggers metal fatigue and lapses in concentration.
I don’t think our squad is so weak… (it still needs strengthening, especially ) but the chemistry/dynamic for the moment… is.
People are so focused on the negative right now that they fail to see the positive. Natural law says however.. that negatives cannot exist without positives.
HH Bhoys and Ghirls! Keep the faith!

The link is for an old sevco story or was that the joke?

Your generosity to the Kano Foundation was astounding and you deserve all our deep respect for that.
However, you have gone a bit OTT today in stating that you were speaking truth to those who were blind to our faults.
There is close to 100% agreement with you on the fact that our team was very very very poor against Legia and desrved a thrashing
There is close to 100% agreement that we have been very fortunate to obtain a second chance on a technical breach of the rules.
However, we differ only in some of us being glad to take the reprieve and some feeling a tad embarrassed and/or fearful we will get humped again.
All that is irrelevant-
We are through to the next round because UEFA found Legia guilty. We did not earn our place but they lost theirs and we have been asked to take it. We do not have the right or power to say Legia should have it. We could only forfeit to Maribor and what, apart from beating Der Hun, have they done to deserve that.
You remain a hero of mine for what you did for the Kano Foundation. I just think you are going too far on this one.
Enjoy your return back to see the hoops!
***(it still needs strengthening, especially ST, of course)
