McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

  10. In regard to the Helsinki game, Motherwell have been confirmed as playing the 31st so we will be the Wednesday.

  11. bournesouprecipe (11:29), note that the revoked trophies will be marked as “Withheld” rather than reverting to the runners-up in each case, as Sally will never agree to any of those being retrospectively re-assigned to Celtic. And I believe that the authorities will agree to this in order to be seen (by Sevco5088) to have given some ground in the negotiations over how the sinners should be punished for their misdemeanours.

Personally, I would be insisting that any and all trophies “won” by Rangers in seasons where improper player registrations are proven revert to the runners-up in each and every instance, regardless of Sally’s protestations and “threats”. I’d simply state: “This is a non-negotiable condition without which no licence will be granted. The decision is yours. Do you accept this condition or are you withdrawing your application for a licence?”

Now who do you think wrote this?

Just one of the many names that I am going to link and prove is the one person.

There were an awful lot of angry responses to this… Just one of many though.

Some of the Celtic support on Sunday were an absolute disgrace. The “Cheer up Walter Smith” song is sectarian in the extreme and I am sick of hearing these scumbags besmirching the good name of the club I love. I really don’t want to read any more smug comments on CQN about how the Rangers fans are steeped in bigotry and sectarianism. Of course they are, but as long as a section of our away support continues to poison the air with this sectarian filth, we have nothing to pull them up for.

Also, the constant “every-five-minutes” chant of “Warren Feeney – You’re a W—-R” just got very childish and boring after the tenth rendition. The same happened at ICT recently with Terry Butcher. If you want to get that message across, then once is enough. Not twenty times during the game.

I live in Australia and will be coming home for a holiday in May for a few weeks and plan to take in a couple of home games in the run-in to 4-in-a-row. I will not be going to any away games though, because I refuse to sit amongst that shower of brain-dead neanderthals who have the cheek to call themselves Celtic fans. And please note – I am talking about those who partake in these nefarious chants and songs, not all away fans. Also, I do not have a problem with The Soldier’s Song and BOTOB etc as these are in no way sectarian. But calling someone an “Orange B” in a loud, concerted chant is disgusting and cannot be condoned. It has to stop. Maybe a hefty fine for Celtic will bring these morons to their senses. Then again, pigs might fly.

  18. The negativity and petty squabbles which has consumed this site in recent weeks is beginning to get on my nerves!

    Grow up guys.

As far as criticism of the board goes, surely the highly entertaining drama which is unfolding across the city should go some way to justifying the boards perceived lack of ambition in recent years. People still point to the failure to purchase Fletcher in costing us the title in wgs final season yet refuse to recognise that if all other clubs in the league had like us played by the rules and refused to spend money outwith or means, Rangers spent over 9 million during this season, we would have won the league quite comfortably. I for one am happy with the boards attitude towards spending and believe that the people currently being so critical of the board will one day, as has happened with regards to Fergus McCann, realise their criticism to be rather harsh and undeserved.

  20. My Dear Ernie…..

Good to see you back on form !

Mightily relieved to see that Ol’ SFTB has eventually returned your well-thumbed copy of “Rules For Radicals”,by the nefarious Commie lickspittle,Saul Alinsky.

I was beginning to worry that you had forgotten ‘Rule 12″….

    Rules For Radicals:-

RULE 1: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood. (These are two things of which there is a plentiful supply. Government and corporations always have a difficult time appealing to people, and usually do so almost exclusively with economic arguments.)

RULE 2: “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone. (Organizations under attack wonder why radicals don’t address the “real” issues. This is why. They avoid things with which they have no knowledge.)

RULE 3: “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)

RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)

RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)

RULE 6: “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones. (Radical activists, in this sense, are no different that any other human being. We all avoid “un-fun” activities, and but we revel at and enjoy the ones that work and bring results.)

RULE 7: “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news. (Even radical activists get bored. So to keep them excited and involved, organizers are constantly coming up with new tactics.)

RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new. (Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.)

RULE 9: “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist. (Perception is reality. Large organizations always prepare a worst-case scenario, something that may be furthest from the activists’ minds. The upshot is that the organization will expend enormous time and energy, creating in its own collective mind the direst of conclusions. The possibilities can easily poison the mind and result in demoralization.)

RULE 10: “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog. (Unions used this tactic. Peaceful [albeit loud] demonstrations during the heyday of unions in the early to mid-20th Century incurred management’s wrath, often in the form of violence that eventually brought public sympathy to their side.)

RULE 11: “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem. (Old saw: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Activist organizations have an agenda, and their strategy is to hold a place at the table, to be given a forum to wield their power. So, they have to have a compromise solution.)

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.).

RULE 13: The proletariat must dine on the courgettes of the decadent bourgeois

RULE 14: Setting Free The Bears is an Enemy of the People and a shameless dissembler.

  22. Morning all,

I can understand that some off you may feel a wee bit apprehensive with regard to lack of signings. However say we spend 6m + on a centre half and striker, we then don’t progress into CL , we’re 6m out of pocket come and January or next May the same poeple will be clamouring for another big spend to prove “ambition”.

It’s amazing how fickle some supporters can be when it comes to venting frustrations against the managemnt and board, surely if the Rankers debacle has taught us anything it’s that you live within your means. If that means we have to sell first so be it.

Qualification for the CL maybe beyond this current squad, although i remain optimistic but having only been in the group stage 5 out of a possible 20 times since its inception then we have to temper ambition with knowledge of our limitations and maybe settle for Europa league.

I firmly believe that PL and the board have the clubs best long term interests at heart.

Pre -season does funny things to some, I hope when the time come we all get behind our club.
