McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

The controversial agent has been a long term friend of Charles Green and is the second English based agent in a week to become involved with Sevco.

I completely opposed 16 Roads comment about Franco but his posts on here, for long enough, have earned him the rite to express that opinion. If you had bothered to read what he said, not in isolation, then you may have understood why your post is crass and without knowledge of the poster as a whole.

  7. Morning y’all

Afternoon here in Perth oz,another sunny winters day

Read comments past couple hrs from ajax game. Cqn is extreme to say the least. Things are either amazing and we have one of the best young Celtic sides in history or things are awful and we are an embaressment.

I agree that a good cetre half Ajax would still beat us, however watching celts in Europe last year I was in bits when other team were in our half, on deck or in air our defenders were not good enough. Charlie is more than capable in the spl but in Europe he doesn’t cut it. Too slow and un mobile enough.. Rogne I do believe will become a very good centre half.. But he needs a quicker more experienced ch alongside him. Wilson just doesn’t cut it,spl backup is all he is. Play him in cup games etc

On other hand we don’t need ki for spl but feel Europe is perfect for him, if we spend bit on centre half and have decent European season with ki in team he will go for more than the 7m offered.

  9. Morning,

    Celtic have beaten Manchester

United to the signature of Mark Hill.

    The 14-year-old from Hamilton was

given a welcome to United’s Carrington

training complex by Sir Alex Ferguson

then shown around by Brian McClair.

Despite the attractions and appeal of

the Premiership side Hill has decided

that he wants to be part of the Celtic

    Academy.

“It’s been a busy summer,” he

explained to The Sun . “I went down to

Carrington which was brilliant. I met

Alex Ferguson at a hotel which was

fantastic, although my mum was more

    excited than me!

“She’s always been a United fan. When

he came in she was like ‘It’s a pleasure

to meet you Sir Alex’. I was just sitting

    there.

    “After meeting him and seeing

Carrington, it was very hard to say no.

We got advice on our options from the

agents at Viola FC, but my family left

    the final decision to me.

“I felt Celtic was the better move at

this time of my life. I liked what

they had to offer and so did my

    family.

    “I can’t quite believe how quickly it’s

    happened. I’m pinching myself.”

Hill has been training with Hamilton

    Accies who helped develop James

    McCarthy and James McArthur into

    Premiership players.

The First Division club put a lot of work

    into their development programme with

Hill admitting that it was difficult to

move on after being becoming the

youngest player to appear for the Accies

    reserve side last season.

“Hamilton have just been amazing for

me,” he added. “I wasn’t going to leave

them, but decided I had been there for

a while and I was ready for a change.

Celtic was the best option for me just

    now.”

Hill will be in good company at Celtic

who provide almost a third of

international players for Scotland at all

    youth team levels.

Yesterday against Airdrie at Firhill 15-

    year-old Mark Barrowman appeared as

a second half substitute for the

    development side while 16-year-old

Glen Eadie scored with a header four

    minutes after replacing Bahrudin Atajic

    in a 4-0 win.

“We’ve no agreed to that” he says.”Black’s guaranteed.”

LOL – just gets better and better

  12. Great news that we have signed Mark Hill. One for the future. Anyone who plays a game at that level at the age of 13 must be special. Well done Hoops.

  13. Hector Avocado:

Did I see you asking about the merits of CH67, were you at the wind up or what? I seem to remember me and you a while back discussing the merits of CH67 and your had it at home and rated it. I seem to remember a night when the internet with the bad storms went down and we didn’t get to see the game, or am I mistaking you with somebody else. I seem to remember that exchange because it was around the time when they rolled out the NBN and your town was the first in Queensland to get it. Were you just winding the boys up? I remember asking how it was, think I even kept the wee exchange too, but then you disappeared for a while until you reapeared slating Neil Lennon and rebel songs almost on a daily basis.

I can’t remember if that was before or after Frank Kafka attacked and insulted so many on here. He had it in for Neil Lennon too and he thought the away support were scum. If I remember rightly, now I may be mistaken here, but I think he had Paul pull some of those posts, but don’t worry cause I have the originals and we can always go back and check if you’re at all curious. Won’t take us too long either because the posts are linked to the dates. And guess who Frank Kafka turned out to be? Aye you’re right… him. Who’d have thunk it eh? That Frank he is for ever changing his name and insulting people.

    Have you ever met him?

We really should catch up for that beer mate. I’ll show you the Pink Palace and point you in the direction of Rebel Hill. Might even walk to the top with you if you were up for the walk. We’d have so much to talk about. By the way, I forget, did you go Sydney when the ‘tic were over. You’ll never believe it but he was on here telling everybody he went to the game and then less than a year later he forgot he went to the game. I think he forgets a lot. I’m a wee bit like that too, I forget thing but I have a habit of squirreling stuff away that always reminds me. You see I’m terrible with names.

Hey! I just remembered, I’m down your way doing a wee job for QCG this Thursday, are you going to be about. If that isn’t convenient I sure we could rearrange. I know I’ve asked you a few times before but you’ve always been so busy but know with you spending so much time on here I’m sure you’d manage to find an hour or two to catch up with a fellow CQNer.

  17. A quick lesson in philosophy by M S McLeod:

“If you say something, loud enough and bold enough, and get some people of public renown to support your statements, it will eventually be accepted as truth and ipso facto become truth.”

Unfortunately, M S McLeod has no PhD in Philosophy. He hasn’t even a diploma in Philosophy.

All M S McLeod has is a whole bunch of guys who believe his philosophical statements, sitting at computers and a whole bunch of printing presses ready to roll.

Whilst that philosophy has worked remarkably well for many, many years, nowadays people are a little more enlightened and tend to take a somewhat skeptical approach to the words of M S McLeod and those who worship at his temple in Govan.

Like many great philosophers in the past who have been held in high esteem for a considerable period of time, the great prophet Bool-Schitt has a great way of dispelling beliefs as mere myth.

The great prophet has been working overtime of late but unfortunately, there is still a great deal of work for him to do in the coming months….

    Lennon sets his benchmark

    Published on July 23rd, 2012

    Written by: Joe McHugh

Neil Lennon wasn’t despondent after watching Celtic crash 4-0 to Ajax.

Saturday’s defeat made for painful viewing and set off some alarm bells amongst the support.

Similar alarm bells were heard last season, most noticeably in autumn culminating in the 0-3 half-time reverse at Kilmarnock.

Lennon refused to buckle or panic, retained his trust in the players to romp off with the title the next time they visited Ayrshire.

Now the timescale is much shorter.

Celtic have to be match-sharp next week to meet HJK Helsinki and take a lead to Finland capable of seeing them through into the final Champions League qualifier where the hard work really begins.

If the see off the Finns, August will be dominated by headlines of £20m jackpots- the sort of money that will allow the club to breathe easily throughout the season and provide a meaningful challenge for players and supporters.

For at least 20 years Celtic have cast envious eyes at the ‘Ajax system’ with Tommy Burns spending time on the training ground of the Dutch masters trying to uncover the secret of developing footballers that look comfortable on the ball.

Lennon was part of a Celtic side that bulldozed Ajax out of the Champions League in 2001 and wants to see his Celtic side make a similar impact on the tournament.

“Where Ajax are, that’s the level we need to get to,” he explained after Saturday’s defeat. “They are a great team in Europe, and that’s where we want to be.

“It’s a learning curve for us, but we know we need to do better. We didn’t do ourselves justice. We were not competitive enough and they kept the ball really well and scored some good goals.

“We know we have got to do better and, hopefully, against Helsinki we can. We have got better as the pre-season has gone on. Obviously the Ajax result didn’t show that, but we have two more tough games which will help us go into the European game.

“We would definitely rather make the mistakes in these friendlies than against Helsinki.

The Ajax game was a marker for where we are and where we need to be to challenge for the Champions League.”

Lennon has got two matches against Norwich and Inter Milan to bring his side upto speed to meet the Finn’s with establishing the best defensive system the priority.

I fear for us in Europe, we dont seem to learn from our mistakes ie Braga,Ultrecth,Sion etc. Most fans dont want to hear this but for us to progress in Europe we need an experienced coach. Neil lennon has done reasonably well, but i think we need somebody who can take us to the next level.

Obviously, match fitness will make a difference when the competitive games start. But I would say that there’s still a huge question mark over the ability of our CBs. All the match fitness in the world wont change that.(Don’t forget even PL knew we needed another CB, but unfortunately, he got injured and the deal was cancelled).

When you play attacking football like we do, good defenders, especially central defenders, aren’t a luxury; they’re a necessity: we wont win games against counterattacking European opposition without them- as we saw in the qualifying games for both the CL and EL last year.

    That’s nonsense.

The Church hierarchy in Spain had always aligned itself with the land owners, the rich and the powerful and against the poor. That’s why they supported Franco.
