McGill comments allow SFA scope for inquiry

440

Amid the acres of confusion that surrounds Rangers and the Scottish game at the moment, one matter is now clear of the tax authorities, not subject to dispute by the various parties squabbling over Rangers, and free for the SFA to examine.  If they are interested.

Former Rangers director, Mike McGill, when speaking to the media alongside Sir David Murray on Tuesday, said, “The club used an old offshore EBT scheme in 1999 with three players.  That scheme is the subject of the small tax case.

“The Revenue provided some information to us in early 2011 and we conceded based on that information and provided for payment in the club accounts.”

The simple question for the SFA is, were details of payments made through the old offshore EBT scheme, which HMRC challenged last year and Rangers’ old board conceded, submitted to the SFA?

If they were, our faith in the governance of the game can be restored and we can all look forward to the Cup Final on Sunday.  If not, whose registrations were invalid and which games did they participate in?

As this question affects more than just SPL football, the SFA are the only body competent to investigate this matter. They are also competent to administer any appeal process. We hear the SPL inquiry will not mature until after the HMRC-Rangers First Tier Tribunal reports, which could be well after the SPL split, potentially creating chaos if Rangers were incorrectly placed in the top six.

This is a governance issue of enormous proportions. The SFA should use McGill’s comments as an opportunity to take a fresh look at this issue and quickly instigate an inquiry.

I’m off the see the lawyers this morning.  More later, I hope!

I am a Celtic Supporter, I spend my money to watch Celtic!

I don’t care if Aberdeen or Hibs are p1sh! I pay to go and watch MY team and I want MY team to win every game.

Killie have ran up debts of about £10 Million is that Celtic’s fault?

Hearts have debts of about £40 Million, our fault again I take it?

These clubs were told by Celtic not to accept the Setanta deal but their greed got in the way and now we have a tv deal you would not p1ss on and they are all skint. But, don’t worry we will just steal money off those Tims.

Is there not a F***ing huge difference between an odd home game in the cup and 18 home matches in the League?

  10. It wouldn’t take too much of a clever clogs to work out a better system than parasite clubs with woeful grounds, be-blazered faux hun chairmen and thug bench-presser players riding on the backs of Celtic.

For example, and without doing proper numbers, a proportion of clubs’ income through gate receipts could go into a pool and clubs could get a share of that money in inverse proportion to how woeful they are at football. Thus, the most woeful would get the biggest share.

However, you could insert a stipulation that the money they receive from this source can only be spend on the transfer of players from another Scottish club, SPL or SFL. And that means paying a fee to the selling club, not just a signing on fee to the player. And none of that ‘undisclosed’ tosh either. What we want is accounted for spreading around of the love.

(APA)

    Auldheid,

was looking for Delia to answer I noted she was having a go at us on Alex Thompsons blog for dismissing her argument, and argument she has given no detail.

I can see an argument for sharing, but the away gate only, if they wat to share then they need to intput. They get a share of he Celtic supports money at their home games.

Sorry pals: it’s difficult to keep track of all one’s admirers on the fragmented comments section.

I am not making a pitch for a particular percentage, but the Cup rules are:

Home team takes 20 per cent

    SFA takes 5 per cent

A wee bit is allowed for a few extras – say 5 per cent

    the balance split evenly.

This comes out at about 35 per cent for the visitors.

I think that’s maybe a bit high – I’d have thought about 20 to 25 per cent would be enough to make a significant difference, both as gained income for the visitors and as a handicap to ourselves.

Oh, and in case you’re holding back from a sense of gallantry, I am not actually Delia Smith: I can’t cook, don’t live in Norwich, and don’t get embarrassingly drunk. I am, in fact, a 61-year-old grandfather … and English too. I picked DeliaSmith as my nom de plume to join in a debate about oatcakes on the fans’ website of my hometown team ten or more years ago.

I for one don’t care if it adversely affects Scotland’s UEFA coefficiant, at least then our revised coefficiant will have been honestly achieved.

Likewise if collusion from the SFA is proved and UEFA decide to ban the SFA and all its members we would find it difficult to argue against their decision – those are the rules. It would be unfair on Celtic and the other innocent teams, but an example must be made of this sorry situation so that nobody forgets who was to blame and who cheated.

  21. Translation of above by Google – what is the rile of the chamberpot in all this ?!!!

Scottish league payroll checks of the club since 1988

The insolvent traditional club Glasgow Rangers a new menace. The Scottish Football League announced on Monday to examine the wages of the club to his players since 1998. Earlier, the former Rangers Chairman Hugh Adam had said in a newspaper interview that the professionals would have received in addition to their regular contracts and hidden contracts. The Rangers had signed three weeks ago for bankruptcy.

Representatives of the FC Porto, which are provided with the documents of the Internet chamberpots be armed, are set to meet tomorrow Michel Platini. It would seem that foresters less than economical with the truth have been these last 25 years, than to the game designs and content directions is

I think anyone who has played them in the last 5 years will want recourse of action. The Coefficient and very interestingly the financial fair play aspect also as that is also extrapolated over 5 years.

I have been in touch with Bremen and Stuttgart and they have promised me that they will pursue this matter. Stuttgart are especially interested as they have been stiffened twice and they dont like Rangers at all after what they done to the town centre.

  23. I don’t have a problem in principle with away teams getting a higher percentage of league gates. But should it not be tied in some way to how many fans they actually bring along? I’m sure a system can be devised that incentivises more away fans to go to games – after all more people at games is what we want, right? For the good of Sciottish football.

I haven’t done any sums at all, but I couldn’t see us agreeing to lose £10M a year from our income to subsidise other clubs. That’s just too much.

  25. The last few weeks have been extraordinary, and I’ve had a rather fantastic feeling of walking on air. The elegance of the equation “If all payments were contractual then they owe Hector 50 million, but if all payments weren’t contractual their players were illegally registered” had me humming little tunes to myself all day.

Then this morning I had a sudden panicky thought – what if they had a clause in their contracts along the lines of “In addition to salaries and agreed bonuses players may be rewarded with occasional discretionary payments via an EBT”.

Would a statement like this provide them with a loophole?
