Celtic will face Zenit St Petersburg on the last 32 of the Europa League in February next year. The first leg will be at Celtic Park on 15 February, three weeks before Zenit’s season resumes after a three-month winter shutdown, with the return leg a week later. They take to the field for the final time before the break tonight.
After going through the nerves of tackling mid-season Scandinavian opponents in the Champions League qualifiers, this draw is encouraging. While Brendan and the players have plenty of work today before our own three week break, they will be encouraged at the prospect of extending our run in Europe into the spring.
We’re happy.
Nice delivery this morning from the guys at @CQNMagazine @CQN Many thanks to @Cairney2 for the personal message. pic.twitter.com/83OUplyGDx

ZSP — if we are going to make a name for ourselves in the EuL then we will need to beat teams of their standard. I take it the usual suspects are getting their excuses in early.
Oligarch money, lax work permit rules to get in South Americans by the car load and dodgy dealings with the football authorities up to and including FIFA because of the World Cup.
For me it is no more excuses.
We need to spend in Jan to bring in players who will make the team better.
First up we need a proper CDM — if EK or ON is not the guy then money needs to be spent.
Maybe time to change from a 2 + 1 to a 1 + 2 with BR learning that flexibility takes you forward.
Means we would play with a narrower attacking line — 2 working the channels rather than two wingers and a No.10 as we always seem to play now.
Not sure about the personnel.
TR could play it if we gets a game before PR.
However not so sure regarding ScS or JF.
Consequently money needs to be spent.
Playing another Eu game with the August 2016 team would be a shameful dereliction of duty by the board and the coaching team.
Hello again all you young rebels.
What a great read that was from the James Forrest blog, i hope
you all have a look at it, a real eye opener for me and it certainly
explains some of the strange posts on CQN .
Off oot now to post thousands of fliers for our Celtic Academy
probably walk the auld legs aff myself :-))
H.H Mick
67 European Cup Winners, great post.
The night Joe signed for us , I was on the late night bus going through Partick wth a fellow passenger singing Joe , Joe super Joe Miller as we went along Dumbarton Road.
His debut the following day in our 5 nil win against Dundee was magic plus Alexander O’Neal at the Playhouse that night rounded the day off agnificently.
Not the View’s Joe Miller is a good guy also.
Having just officially learned that my place of work’s heating has been fixed and therefore the place will be open tomorrow ‘as normal’ I bid you all a pleasant evening and a most peaceful sleep when you decide to turn in.
politeCSC
Ok
How about this team for Wednesday night, a wee freshen up
De Vries
Gamboa, Ajer, Bitton, Miller
Hayes, Henderson, Ntcham, Rogic, Sinclair
Eboue
Could play Svietchenko in defence and abitton in midfield to replace Henderson ????
I would hope this would be strong enough to see off Hamilton
Thoughts ?????
Jobo,
Apologies, hope you had a lovely weekend with your grandaughters Christening ( or baptism )
DDV
Ralston Bitton Ajer KT
Hayes Brown Ntcham Sinclair
Dembele Griffiths
Or replace Dembele with Rogic.
Oh dear have I got Joe and Joe mixed up ????
Ah well they are both great men Hail Hail to the pair of them
67ECW
TTR
Not sure Ralston is back from injury ( his operation) yet ??
I think KT needs a wee breather, and Brown for that matter
Eboiue done very well with his hatrick last week, deserves a wee run, although I also think Moussa needs games to get back to form ?
Zenith must have their next game on their minds as thry struggled tonight. 0 – 0 away to Ahamat Grosney
And meant to say i’ve stayed in St Petersburg, beautiful city
lots of canals and over one of them a small bridge where
traditionally local lads propose to their girls , so any of you
thinking of a nice place to put a ring on your girls finger, why
not?
Oh and there’s the ubiquitous Irish pub not very far from it
to celebrate the occasion.
H.H Mick
Mick, thought you went ooot 15mins ago with Fliers :-))))
Hope all is well
COWIEBHOY
Ebouie isny getting a sniff just now and you have him playing as a striker, me thinks I will put my trust in Brendan :-)
HH
COWIEBHOY
Ha, I see you have your Odsone and Ebouie’s mixed up :-)
HH
Hi Cowiebhoy
Waiting on the weemhan, need a haun tae carry them.
H.H Mick
x for Laura.
COWIEBHOY on 11TH DECEMBER 2017 10:56 PM
Ralston was training today and has been for the past week. Wouldn’t disagree with the rest. But, even against lowly Hamilton i wouldn’t feel comfortable without Broonie.
TET
Correct meant edouard Odsonne
Could also fit Kouassi into midfield though :-)))
Understand we may want to leave Broonie in there though
Think we have a squad to make changes and give some a wee breather, far too many games in December in my view
Eboue Kouassi was training today as well, couldn’t see Tom Rogic in the photos mind you.
COWIEBHOY
Every time I have seen the boy Eboue he has impressed me, there is something about him, I read on another blog that the reason he isn’t getting too much game time is discipline problems, not a clue as to the rights and wrongs of that, just what I read.
I also read The Griff is in the same boat, who knows, I would hope that is wrong on both counts.
HH
Ok
Nytol
As jobo pointed ooot, 2 more sleeps :-)))
Marspapa, if looking in , I have a spare ticket for Wed if you want to join us – will drop you a text Tues
THE EXILED TIM on 11TH DECEMBER 2017 11:25 PM
I think people fill in the blanks when it comes to the discipline stories, nothing in it i would imagine.

I recognise some and think it is mainly the IT guys bar the football photos.
TTR
I hope not.
HH
TET, just as I head, agree Kouassi looks very decent
No idea or heard anything on any issues
Bada put up the issue is communication ( lack if English language understanding ?)
Griff needs a wee break, played most of season to date plus that Scotland mob games
I think like most regulars a wee breather at this time.
Coming back to the season, I actually think Scottish football should also shutdown from middle of Dec to end of Jan, start of Feb ??????
FtSFA or FtSPFL, can’t think ooot the box of looking after 1 clubs finances though
The current article on James Forrest’s Blog ‘On Fields of Green’ is hugely interesting.
It is a long piece but it should be compulsory reading for all posters.
Re the fitbaw, A poster referred to fact that in last 9 League games we have won 5 & drawn 4, I would also mention that 2 of the wins were one nil scorelines.
Obviously we are not firing on all cylinders , there is never a single simple reason for this but our top marksman in recent years has so far scored 7 goals, and for whatever reason is not getting a lot of game time.
The Griff is a proven goalscorer, but he can’t score from the sideline.
Brendan has had a near miraculous impact on Glasgow Celtic. He inherited Ronnie’s very fragile team and transformed them into winners.
And that’s great.
What is less great is that some of the players seem to have thrown in the towel in the tunnel when we face big time opponents. We used to be able to go toe to toe with the best at CP and get a result
Cowie,
Griff, played when Dembele was injured but last few weeks he hasn’t seen too much football.
I think Dembele is a better footballer but Griff is the better finisher. I also think in the SPFL the better finisher is the better asset..
Would love to stay on longer tonight but unfortunately just had a phone call & have to head off to drive a family member home.
So it’s Good Night & God Bless from me.

——————————————————————————————————————————-
Our relative lack of form over the past 9 league games has understanably led to some criticsm of our defence. Granted much of this is justified but I’m just as concerned about our ratio of chances to goals. With the exception of the last Motherwell match, we are missing far too many clear cut chances which is then encouraging teams to have a pop at us with some measure of success. I would like to think the management etam are working on this. It shouldn’t take 3 to 4 chances before we find the net.
Also concerened about the number of times when players have a shot on goal when squaring it to a team-mate in a better position would have been the best option. Again, I’m sure the management team are on to this. Certainly would like to see this sorted by 30 Decemebr when I’m sure we’ll create plenty chances.
tet,
was listening to ssb tonight, report asked br something about lg i couldnt hear the question but his response was you will have to ask him. came over that he is not happy with lg.
we need that bhoy so i hope they patch things up, he has to start wednesday and dont mess with the team we need three points.
There isny anything wrong wi Cellic’s ch’s, they’re fine.
The problem that they have, in European games especially, is lack of protection from the midfield.
Broony does his best, more than his best, but, there should be more than one player, running about like a heidless chicken, offering protection. Callum McGregor is being championed by a fair old majority on here.
It reminds me of the Celtic managers who used to champion, for instance, Peter Grant. All the Celtic managers, who seemed to be, indifferent to, PG’s anonymity, ended up being sacked. Only when, Wim & Murdo came in, got rid of PG, brought in Craig Burley, and started to win the midfield battles, brought a defensive mf shield in, Paul Lambert as well to, and, dropped the daft {Celtic Way}, won 2 trophies out of 3, stopped the hun 10 in a row, and moved the team on the pitches mindset away from the gung ho, all out attack mindset, that provided a grave yard for, narrow minded, uneducated in terms of how to defend, Celtic managers imho. Anywye, CM is an entirely different type of player to, PG. But they both have one annoying attribute. No matter how anonymous either was / is, they seemed to have this ability to, just walk straight back into the team. I’m not saying that, CM is to blame for a lack of, mf protection for the defence, but, his at times, AWOL contributions, are a factor. If I can see it, surely opponents must see it as well.
Put it this way, if MO’N hadnt parked the bus, and, played on the break, there would have been no Seville or, no beach ball Sunday’s at ibrokes.
Put a mf shield in front of the defence, Brendan’s attempt at the fabled {Celtic Way} has been sussed, improvise.
Anyway, more importantly.
Art Of War – Sad, sorry news about your sister in law.
Try to be strong, no matter how trying. HH
Thoughts and Prayers for, Alison, and all who loved her.
God Bless.
………..oot.
First of all I would like to thank all you guys who do the live updates, tried it but could nae keep up, thanks.

Nothing in that (long) article should come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention.
Though the mention of Leggat’s name à propos the anonymous John James is interesting, if not entirely original.
Uxbridge letter of the day is I :-

Incandescent: Rolling downhill in a tin.
Indict: When the Queen is unsure about something
Indispose: I stand thus.

Innuendo: Italian suppository

Papers full of us trying to sign Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig. 32 year old centre half with one German cap a decade ago.
I get the need to sign an experienced centre half in January but preferably one who is eligible for Europa League (which Compper isn’t)
I thought the CHs on Sunday were clumsy and more unsure due to the pitch, it was shocking in my opion with frost lying on the surface grass and some of the wings looked icy, was this watered before the game?
