Miku, Lassad and Ambrose need to stretch legs

842

If you are going to Celtic Park tomorrow you will see a lot of photos like the one above.  Outside the ground 200 bucketeers will be collecting to raise money to send Oscar Knox for treatment for neauroblastoma.

Be prepared.  Bring spare cash with you, have it ready and do your bit for Oscar.

For the second week in a row we take on the team at the bottom of the table; see how that worked out last week.  After an awful August which saw Dundee’s return to the SPL marked with one point and no goals scored from four games, they picked up three points at Tynecastle before losing a lead late in the game against Motherwell last weekend.  Manager Barry Smith will have watched how St Johnstone went about their business six days ago and will believe his team can nick something at Celtic Park.

Neil Lennon (and some of us) will welcome the drop in intensity from Wednesday’s Champions League tie as Celtic are likely to give game time to those who joined the club three weeks ago.  Miku, Lassad and Ambrose all need to stretch their legs.

Big shout again for the guys raising money for Celtic Youth Development through TicPick.  It’s £1 to enter and you win £1000 for predicting 10 results.  I’ve gone for Celtic to beat Dundee, West Ham to beat Sunderland, Aberdeen and Motherwell to draw, Man City to beat Arsenal, St Mirren to beat Killie, Dundee United to beat Hearts, Man Utd to beat Liverpool, Hibs to beat Inverness, Chelsea to beat Stoke and Spurs to beat QPR.

    “What team do you support”

    …..and they say:

    “Rangers”

    ……and you say:

“Aye, but who’s yer big team?”

I tried it out last night at a works night and can thoroughly recommend it.

  7. Manager: I want a big response against Dundee

By: Laura Brannan on 21 Sep, 2012 14:44

NEIL Lennon made it very clear he wasn’t happy with last week´s performance against St Johnstone and is expecting his players to give him a big performance when they return to league business on Saturday afternoon.

Dundee are the visitors this Saturday, and the manager hopes his players can not only pick themselves up from last weekend´s 2-1 defeat, but also kick-start a new winning streak.

“I want to win the game,” he said. “It´s imperative that we start putting in back to back consistent performances in the league and I want it to start tomorrow.

“We´ve dropped seven points out of 15 already and that´s unacceptable from our point of view, but there have been mitigating circumstances along the way.

“What I´m looking for now is consistency and trying to patch a run of wins together from here until the Moscow game. We have to learn from last week and not take our eye off the ball any more, because any team can beat us on any given day if we´re not right.

“We would have been heavy favourites going into the St Johnstone game and we didn’t win it, and we were probably heavy favourites going into the Hibs game at home, but we´ve taken one point from the last six and that should be enough motivation for the players to say, ´let´s get going´.”

Despite Kris Commons putting the Hoops ahead last week, St Johnstone came from behind to seal all three points. But the manager hopes the excellent European performance against Benfica in midweek will spur them on to victory tomorrow.

“It´s the only game I´ve been disappointed with, last week in Perth. Apart from that, I´ve been pretty pleased with the performances of the players individually and as a team,” he said.

“It´s difficult to predict how the team is going to play but we spoke about it this morning and I think the players will be very motivated to win the game tomorrow.

“There´s always a hangover after these Champions League nights, in terms of the psychological lift they get then the downfall afterwards, so we have to be wary of that and freshening up the team might just give it the jag we might need tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, there are only two doubts ahead of the Dundee clash, with Mikael Lustig and Miku having picked up knocks on Wednesday.

“There are a few bumps and bruises, and a bit of fatigue in some of the muscles,” the manager explained. “Mikael was feeling a little tightness in his hamstring so came off as a precaution. Miku has a bit of a problem with one of his calves so we´ll see how he is tomorrow.

“Scott Brown is fine. He´s in good spirits and trained this morning so thankfully there´s been no after-effects from Wednesday night and he is in the squad. Paddy McCourt is back as well, and Efe Ambrose and Lassad have trained the last couple of days so they´ll be in the squad too.

“We´re hoping Joe Ledley and Beram Kayal will train on Sunday. Filip Twardzik is another couple of weeks away, but Ambrose can play in midfield as well, so hopefully that department is bolstered.

“We do have a bit of depth to the squad with Lassad and Ambrose coming up to speed now so that gives us a bit of food for thought for tomorrow.

“There might be some changes but I´m hoping not to make too many if we can avoid it. I imagine it wouldn’t be very far away from the team which started on Wednesday, through sheer lack of numbers more than anything else.”

I agree with you. If we’re within touching distance of the opposition at half time I’m always confident as few if any can match our fitness. There is always a wee period shortly into the second half where we stick a few unanswered points on them.

Just got the call and my ticket is in the bag now :)

  20. Greenwells Glory on

Hi Ghuys, Salve salve;- Tell what I’ve been thinking, I feel it would be a very positive thing to encourage good corporate citizenship particularly with regards to accepting responsibility to the wider community in regard to the paying of taxes. This should be promoted as a positive experience in order to engender a communal spirit among employers and wealth creators etc. To this end I propose that Celtic lead the way with a “National Tax Payers Day” which should be held on a convenient day Oh I don’t know , say for the sake of argument the Saturday nearest to Nov 11Th. We could mark that day by having floral emblem , say a forget-me-not on the shirt and to make it an even more happy occasion, Celtic should give free seats away to groups of people who are employed by the public purse, such as Teachers, social workers nurses etc. I am sure that in these hard financial times, we could rely on our friends in the great Scottish Media to support such a well intended gesture to the hilt.

    God Bless Wee Oscar

On your musings about the possible ‘fued’ between Jabba and Jim Spence … and some recent output from the BBC:

Until about a year ago, it was usually Chico and Jabba who were most often pitted against each other to ‘attract listeners’, then there was the Alistair Johnston nod incident, in which they fell out on air.

More recently, it was Tom English who was paired up with the BBC’s resident Daily Record publicist (BBCDRP).

However, more recently still things have become much more interesting, with Stuart Cosgrove and Jim Spence being paired with the BBCDRP.

ALso, I note (from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19668460) that “Neil Lennon declines to comment on banner complaint

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has declined to comment on an alleged offensive banner displayed by supporters.”

I wonder if anyone in the MSM this weekend will have the temerity to ask McCoist about any of the uncontestably offensive banners or songs which continue to seen or heard at The Rangers games … ?

  22. I resolutely believe Charlie Mulgrews best position and biggest contribution to the team is at Centre Half.

You just need to look at the difference in distribution from the back on wednesday night to a match charlie plays CH in. It was stark for me. He defends well, heads the ball well, he can step forward with a ball (with the confidence of the crowd and in his own ability) when the opportunity is there. There is no downside to playing him at CH and all positives.

What Charlie won’t do is skin a full back for pace, he won’t be nimble and terrier like in the middle of the park, he doesn’t have that instinctive ability to make a couple of yards of space that a quality playmaker has in the mid-field and he doesn’t do ‘ghosting’ runs like out Ledley

Charlies brings us spades in CH, his best position, play him there and he’ll be legend

  23. Is popular American TV drama “The Walking Dead” a coded mockery of the Ibrox Disaster?

Deranged minds want to know. (thumbsup)

  24. Even funnier would be a journalist asking McCoist to comment on the banner which has caused the SFA to dust down the ol’ rule book to find some paragraphs dealing with slights against zombies …

  25. philvisreturns, 15:43

It’s not even about what Celtic fans sing or display, it’s about not being allowed to behave as they always have done.

How dare they be prevented from singing the Billy Boys and The Famine Song then why should anyone be allowed to call them Huns, Zombies (or any other word they suddenly decry as sectarian)?

It’s about spite – like refusing promotion to the SPL just to deny the other teams their money (yeah, right)

  26. If I was the DJ tomorrow I’d be blasting a bit of the ole ‘Zombie Nation’ for the Bhoys and Ghirls in 111.
