Motherwell game encapsulated much of our season

382

After exploiting the inadequacies of Aberdeen and Newco with 10 men in consecutive league games, it was all a bit ineffective against 10-man Motherwell yesterday.  This game encapsulated so much of the football we watch: how to generate clear scoring chances against defences that stick to task and do not make mistakes.

The one gilt-edged chance we made was a late counterattack, when Motherwell had the audacity to try to win the game.  The script was written for Scott Sinclair, whose first touch was sublime, but his shot fell victim to a lunging defensive block.  The lesson, surely, when facing Celtic, is not to venture too far up the park.

Brendan should reflect on this when next we face tier-one Champions League opponents.  If Motherwell can stop Celtic, Celtic can do likewise to the PSGs of this world.  How to unlock a packed defence is another story.

You have shown, in my opinion, great bravery coming on the blog and giving a snapshot of your difficulties.

Suicide is, sadly, something that has affected my family and is an experience I would wish on not one single family.

I’m glad you failed and that your family are able to share their love with you.

Hopefully one day we will meet up and talk Robert Nesta.

You can recover from your illness, I had much the same problem,I’ve loved to drink heavily and it really was a big problem in the end, I spent A few months in A mental institution, not locked up, but it was a mental institution, For doing exactly what you tried, I overdosed on a mixture of a few Medicines, Luckily I took so many that my body couldn’t cope with the overdose, and made me very sick, but I’m still here and I don’t drink as much as I used to, in fact I won’t drink anything if I’m in the house on my own, and I have plenty of the Amber liquid in my home, but life is more important than anything, you can get over it, look at me,I still drink but only on a few occasions a year,Like when I meet a few CQNers in the BV on occasion.

I nearly died 16-17 years ago and had the last rites in the Hospital, again I’m still here, I enjoy life every time I meet you lot in the BV, it keeps me going, and I’ve never thought about taking my life again, But I’ve had some serious health problems, over the years.

When we were talking about going to Lisbon in 1967, my brother said I could come as long as I did not have a drink, I promised him that I’d abstain from drinking ,but when we got to Calais {spelling} I broke my promise I bought a 5 gallon bottle of wine and drank all the way to Lisbon, as none of the other drank I supped up on it.

Garry, you’ll enjoy life to the full by being close to your Family, so get the depression out of your head, you can fight it, if I can do it, your much stronger than me. and you can do it too. Hail, Hail.

    Excuse the grammar and Spelling.

    Glad you made it too!

A 5 gallon bottle of wine?

I don’t think I could lift it high enough to have a drink!

    Hope you are feeling better.

Seamus Larsson is doing well … and mercifully, sleeping through the nights now !

However, as evidenced by his posts today, he does seem to have cracked the partental controls on the computer!

I thought he was getting bigger until I ran into a friend with a Lenoberger puppy recently … 9 months and 80 lbs!

And yesterday, on the news, there was a story about some Mastiff that is 9 months and 180 lbs! They expect it will grow to about 280 lbs!

It could eat Seamus for breakfast!

But, seriously … he is great!

On that note .. DD … do yourself a favour …. get a puppy!

  7. Mike in Toronto, thanks for the update. I’ve written down his name now in my memory pad. Seamus Larsson.

I had to post about what Garry is going through,It will be a hard fight but,he Has a family that will help him along the way.

I was in tears when reading what he has said, that was why I wrote about my problems on this blog, just to give him heart that he will recover.

  9. For some including myself good mental health is a delicate thing. About 15 years ago severe stress brought on bouts of anxiety which quickly turned into depression. I am glad to say that they are now down to a few times a year. I know some of the triggers and can mostly avoid them.

Anti depressants didn’t work for me but talking therapy helped a great deal and would recommend counselling to anyone suffering from this illness – that’s what it is an illness.

My grandkids are the best therapy

  12. 6 of the best pages of posts in many a month. CQN as a community (and a worldwide one at that) at it’s best.

  13. Only on the blog tonight for a while and reading through some of the posts it’s wonderful to see people are able to speak very openly and freely about mental health.

It is so imortant that people feel safe and comfortable to speak about emotional health issues, as everything can be helped by talking.

As a therapist I am biased but would strongly recommend CBT therapy to anybody who feels anxiety or depression in particular. There are a number of avenues to access CBT therapy and self help websites such as icbt.ie and albertellisinstitute.com would be a good place to start.

    Keep talking and stay safe

DD, I’ve spent a few evenings in your company over the past couple of years and enjoyed every minute of it.

I look forward to many more.

As an expat who only manages to catch up with the CQN guys on rare occasions the welcome and friendship on offer is much appreciated and you DD have always been a gracious and welcoming freind.

    Catch up soon hopefully.

DD, never say your life is a failure when you have brought your family into this world, even if you didn’t do one other thing in your life that would be enough.

However, I am sure there are many other things throughout your life where you have brought joy to others or succeeded in something you were doing.

Unfortunately my nephew succeeded where you failed in ending his life, it almost destroyed our family, please never think of this as a solution, it kills those who are left behind.

    Depression creeps up on you.

It does not knock politely on the door

    Of a formerly happy heart.

    It invites itself in,

    Pulls up a chair,

    And gets comfortable.

It gets acquainted with your worst memories,

And pals around with your weaknesses.

It leaves a bad taste in your mouth,

Like the sour bile you swallow down

When everyone and everything around you

Is nothing more than a reminder

Of why you fell apart in the first place.

Their sympathy does not make you feel shiny and new,

No matter how much you want it to.

Depression is not meant to be romanticized.

It is not lovely to feel broken.

Do not envy those who are not sure if they will feel whole again.

Do not put heartbreak on a pedestal and worship it for everyone to see.

This gut-wrenching feeling serves no purpose.

It sits at the one, now empty chair,

    Rocking back and forth

At the far end of the dinner table.

It makes black and white photos

    Seem more appealing

Than the bright color they once offered up.

    Depression writes, “help”

    On your forehead

    With invisible ink—

So that only those who truly look,

    Can read it..

    Braw.
