Motherwell inflame and fail to learn lessons

369

Two games into a three game run against Motherwell I would expect to have a bit of claret and amber fatigue. But frankly, I can’t wait to get stuck into them tomorrow. I know we took the cup on Sunday, and rescued our Invincibility-ness on Wednesday, but their manager’s inappropriate reaction after the final, then the club’s statement, where they assert referee decisions affected both games, whereas “should any evidence exist” that missiles were thrown at Celtic players, they will act.

So evidence might not exist? Maybe Leigh Griffiths brought that bottle onto the field himself and the coins dropped from Mikael Lustig’s waste-band.

Very clever, Motherwell. What actually happened was your manager inflamed your fans ahead of Wednesday, then your stewards failed to even look at the crowd while missiles were raining on Celtic players. Then your subsequent statement assured everyone that you had no evidence of wrongdoing.

You condoned the actions of your players, who learned nothing after Sunday and repeated the same mistakes on Wednesday. You fail to condemn your fans after Wednesday, who will learn only that there are no consequences for their actions.

Can we talk about Celtic for a moment?

If Celtic is your thing, and you will be at tomorrow’s game, you can contribute to the Foundation Bucket Collection. The Foundation feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless and comforts those in deprivation, all in your name.

It is a magnificent gift to us as Celtic supporters. Nowhere else in the football world does an organisation of such scope and action exist.

Bring some cash and join the Movement.

Did King really say that they would be sustainable once they were getting European money every year?

Errr, Dave – that’s the exact definition of NOT being sustainable!

I actually recall a club who were dependent on Champions League money. Missed out in 2001 – things got bad. Missed out again in 2004 – things got worse. Missed out again in 2008 – things got even worse. Missed out again in 2011 – that club no longer exists…..

  3. I’m on the way down to Glasgow now, staying overnight and the game tomorrow, staying in sauchiehall st, any suggestions for eating out tonight, reasonable price, and picky older kids(who only eat burgers, , I’m not eating a fecking burger) any recommendations are appreciated.

  4. Watching and listening to the furore around Celtic daring to get some penalties is just a sign of the racism endemic in Scotland.

Both were penalties. We have seen teams get worse against us and the media always sides with the other team.

I read the record article where they accuse one pundit of “currying favour” by admitting that Wednesday’s was a pen. But the wording in that article says it all. McGregor fell under pressure. He fell after a coming together.

This is wanton bias. It’s not hidden.

Meanwhile those pointing out the fact that it’s open season on Celtic and its supporters are right. This unbeaten run is an embarrassment for Scotland. It’s victims are lording it over them and it must be stopped by fair means or foul.

But ask yourself a question. Why aren’t Celtic speaking out about this?

    Too scared?

There have always been cheating refs in the game.

I probably am older than you, but that merely means that I can recall a longer list of miscreant officials.

Davidson happened to be the holder of the crown in that era.

Jack Mowatt was the darling before that. He was awarded the R.Madrid v Eintracht Final as a retirement present.

Before that and my time, there was P.Craigmyle and the infamous M.C. Dale, the drunken ref.

What, in my view, makes it worse now, is the blatant implementation of the rules by the SFA.

They are guilty of maladministration , not through incompetence, but by design.

How do they get away with it?

By the compliance of 41 Scottish clubs and the PR from all shades of the media.

They have never before needed to be as proactive in sabotaging our club, as there was never a situation as desperate in Govan.

In previous times, it was down to anti Irish/Catholic, freemasonry fuelled bigotry.

    Now, it’s business.

Like most, if not all, on here, I don`t know why Celtic remain quiet about so many perceived injustices against us in Scotland. There might be a good reason or there might not be. Until I know, I will refrain from either criticism or praise for their seeming reticence .

On the other hand, I would strongly support any move which allowed Celtic to play in another country. I do feel the MSSM in particular and The Establishment in general are Anti-Celtic. It is not healthy for us to continue in such an environment– especially as our success, if continued, will only lead to a worsening of the situation. Sad , really.

    Great days.

However, to appease some demands on here, Celtic fans will indeed empty the stadium (about 15 minutes after both games end.)

We have the perfect solution that suits everybody.

  11. CORKCELT@12-10

A lot of validity in your post.

We have not yet hit a long run of form yet.

There are mitigating factors such as Europe and injuries.

But we are nowhere near as dynamic or potent as last season.

Our play has become predictable and one paced.

Our opponents now have the technology and have a whole season of video to work on countering us.The better coaches like Lennon and Clarke had us sussed.

We have better players than any other team in the league and now we have to start showing it.

I think the central mid area needs a rejig.

Playing 2 from Rogic,McGregor and Armstrong leaves us defensively light.

Rogic has been poor for most of this season.

Armstrong has been erratic and i think his contract situation has had a bearing.

McGregor has been the best of the three but his dynamic runs in the box are less frequent.I think he is playing to wide to be as effective as he could be.

I also think that he being wide has partly nullified the potency of KT and SS leaving less space for both to run into and exploit.

You are entitled to your opinion, as we all are, but I will put my trust in Brendan Rodgers, who I reckon knows a thing or two about this fitba thang.

  13. Hi Bhoys

I was alive during our nine in a row but although my older brothers were frequent visitors to Celtic Park I honestly never had a great interest in football. So no great recollections of the fitba or society at that time.

I am now in my fifties and very aware of what is going on these days.

So I asked my eldest brother his opinion or for a comparisson on our nine their (corrupt nine) and today.

He said that during our nine it was hard going but due to life being hard just because you were a tim in the first place you never noticed so much.

For the (corrupt nine) he says although the huns were happy and a little more tolerant of us the still loved trying to rub your nose in the dirt.

Today he thinks they know their lives will never be the same and so their attacks and behaviour are and will get worse towards us. He reckons this applies to all of them and not just the sevco supporters and orangemen. But also the wee bowling club and golf club members you know the ones, the ones that are aw nicey nicey to your face and support St. Mirren etc but when your back is turned or they are in a crowd they are wading in our blood.

Maybe that is why our club don’t publicly say too much about things because wether we like it or not we are vastly outnumbered in this country and a lot of us are not capable of standing up for themselves. The club has to show a responsible outward looking attitude for all our supporters. We should always remember this before we kick the hornet’s nest.

So lets just enjoy the feelings of the moment by all means but be a little careful in what we wish for and as my brother taught me there are only two types of football supporter

    CELTIC and ANTI CELTIC.

I know which I am and I also know how to deal with the other ones including the sleekit ones.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  14. Thomthetim I would dispute that it’s just business. It’s what it’s always been. Racism.

Hot smoked I have long since thought that our board believe the status as downtrodden minority is good for business. Ergo racism brings in the Bucks. Not the most ethical of stances.

Neil Lennon and McCartney. I was merely following a link someone had put up. But as the song goes know your enemy. Failing to speak out is t a morally ambiguous act. Its morally wrong.

But hey we can smile and just put up with it.

  15. Marrakesh Express on

    Fan-a-tic

You make good points but for me it’s simply more to do with the Ross Co’s Dundee’s etc playing to lose 1-0 or scrape a draw. When bigger teams come at us (Sheep Sevco Hibs Anderlecht) we rack up more goals by playing our more accustomed expansive passing game.

I’m sure BR is well aware of the importance of an early goal.

  16. NEG

That’s not what I am saying I am saying the club MAY be looking after ALL it’s supporters by being careful in what they do.

I personally have never put up with anything like that in my life but I could fully understand if this was the club’s approach.

    That is the problem.

However, we are looking at this through the prism of the media agenda.

I would like to think that amongst clubs outwith Scotland, we are viewed with a high level of respect and admiration.

Peter Lawwell and others post Fergus, have gained a high reputation with legislators and administrators within the game.

If that is not enough to establish a reputation of good governance, then our financial clout to any other market is considerable.

I’m not suggesting that anything will happen, but the situation in Scotland, for me, has passed crisis point both on and off the field.

    Neganon,

    You are correct.

I should have phrased it better,. I should have said not only due to the anti Irish/Catholic bigotry, but also it is business too.

  18. NEIL LENNON & MCCARTNEY

I never said Brendan did not know a thing or to about this fitba thang.

But as expected teams have found ways to nullify our potency this season.

Time for us to recognize and adjust a little.

  19. Neil, No need for that reply to Fan-a-tic.

A guy has the temerity to make a football related post & your response is Brendan knows best.

We are all aware that Brendan knows best but if that is the stock answer to anyone who expresses a Football related opinion then the Blog is a Bogey.

My main reason for coming on here in the first place was to talk fitbaw with fellow Celtic Supporters but apart from live updates thread there is very little discussion on the actual Football.

I applaud Fan-a-tic’s post which I thought was very interesting and would encourage more posters to give the actual football more blog space.

  20. MARRAKESH EXPRESS

I think the main factor for our relatively indifferent form, is the number of International breaks we have had.

We have just entered December and I think we have had three, two week breaks.

That is one helluva lot of training/ coaching days missed.

RH Davidson 1970. Just had a black pudding supper. It may make a reappearance. Scottish Cup quarter v self same Dandies and he sent wee Jimmy off was one of the scarier afternoons in the old Celtic Park.

JRP Gordon was in my opinion at least as bad- probably the most flagrantly biased whistler until Tait – the 78 New Year game still the worst single refereed match I have ever seen.
