Motherwell may hold casting vote

454

St Johnstone (through manager Steve Lomas) and Kilmarnock, through Rangers supporter (literal sense) Michael Johnston, have both declared their vote to allow a Newco to take Rangers place in the SPL next season.  Celtic will vote against and Dundee United appear open to persuasion.  The next most important team in the country is Motherwell.

Motherwell, alongside Celtic, Dundee United and St Johnstone have a place on the SPL board.  They are migrating towards ownership and control by a large number of small supporter-shareholders, they’ve benefited from Rangers demise and in July will feature in the Champions League qualification draw, broadcast live from Monaco.

On the downside, despite their on-field success this season, the club will have to trim football budget for the coming season as Champions League qualifying money does not make up for earning less from cup runs this season and inflation pushing costs up.

Motherwell fans seemed to enjoy their visit to Ibrox on Saturday but does anyone expect them to vote against Rangers?

Miller bid relies on SPL guarantees and certainties. No SPL vote must mean no guarantees for Miller bid regardless of tainted media spin.

  3. Am I right in saying that as there is no existing rules to punish a Newco, rangers will walk straight back in with no sanctions. All spl clubs can say it wisnae me.

    BHOYCOTT!

  4. Very occasional poster……Just thinking off the top of my head so too speak…BUT….given the lack of representatives of THEM today (arrogance or all part of the PLAN?), what if the PLAN is… to allow everything to slide along, so that there is no time to register a club for next season – producing a fait accompli for the SFA/SPL (no-one gets any blame – the only ones to get the blame are of course Our Hero, SDM, Hector and Duff & Duffer), so no Huns in SPL – nothing to worry about, during the season a NEWCO is established – they have an entire season to work on this, along with lobbying the SFA/SPL and lo and behold at the end of NEXT season there is league restructuring (anyone for 3 14 team leagues?? Allowing NEWCO plus a.n.other in?????) Of course, this supposes that over the next season…..the SKY TV money is a lot less, that the other SPL teams have a vastly reduced income and that Celtic annihilate everyone in all competitions…. could this be part of the PLAN????

To summarise – no Huns next season – league restructure end of next season Huns re-emerge as saviours of the Scottish game???????

  5. Maybe there was no RFCiA representation as OldCo are largely an irrelevance for the purposes of next season’s SPL, as they will likely die a natural death immediately on completing their fixtures for this season and being eligible for 2nd place prize money. NewCo don’t exist yet so they couldn’t be there either. By May 30th they will have been conveniently established and ready to be anointed with the RFCiA SPL share.

Everything is being done to accommodate them, and still not a word of contrition – They should be told to walk away and keep walking.

  7. As a second point I don’t think the Huns will give a flying f%^& about their history – they will still claim it – no matter what happens – they have no shame, they’ll call their years break a sabbatical or something like that……….

  8. Serious point in all this.

When does Ross County take up their share in SPL? Dunfermline could be relegated this evening.

Would be good to see someone else involved rather than the mouthpiece Yorkson.

I wonder how the SFA are getting on with the current club license application from Rangers?

It should be completed by 31st May or thereabouts if last years timetable applies.

That should help inform the SPL of the chances Oldco getting a license for next season and whist they are at it (at it being literal) ask the SFA if Newco qualify for one.

Has anyone sounded out UEFA about financially compensating all of our affected teams if they have the balls to keep the Newco out of the SPL ?

Surely this would be a small price to pay for UEFA to uphold their FFP ideaology and sporting integrity mantra thus preventing a precedent being set.

  14. Paul67 et al

On December 12 1948, just three years after the defeat of Fascism, a sixteen man patrol of Scots Guards executed twenty four unarmed Chinese-Malay villagers at Batang Kali in Malaya. Just over a month later, the Chief Secretary of Malaya, Sir Alec Newboult, introduced Regulation 27, which authorised the use of lethal force for those attempting to escape arrest. The regulation was retrospective and was used to justify the actions of the Colonial army. Over sixty years later surviving members of the village, including one who was eleven at the time, seek a Judicial Review into the refusal by the British government to formally investigate the massacre. A Labour government inquiry in 1970 ended with the election of the Tories in June of that year. The Judicial Review hearing will take place tomorrow and Wednesday at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. You can be sure that it will be one of many examining the role of the Colonial Office in the period 1945 through to the 1960s. A clear case of where justice is delayed, justice is denied. Here at home, it took forty years for the British Prime Minister, David Cameron to apologise for the actions of the British Army, finally overturning the findings of the 1972 Widgery Report.

Do not underestimate the lasting damage the Administrator can cause, the pain the rubber stamp can inflict.

Rangers played Dundee United on Wednesday May 2nd, the on pitch entertainment, The Scots Guards Association Pipe band.

  15. Mort

    Why?

Yorkston has already said no! Surely you want as many No’s as possible.

He might be odious most of the time but he’s integrity’s friend, for the moment anyway.

  16. According to STV the meeting lasted six hours. That’s a hell of a long time to take to decide that you don’t have enough information to make a decision.

Also, what additional information do they actually need? This discussion was about proposed amendments to league rules that would then apply to all clubs. By delaying are they not simply confirming that the proposed changes are for the benefit of one club and one club only?

There is nothing in the rules that prevents decisions being taken if a member is not present – as long as they were duly invited of course.

  17. This may work in our favour.

If the FTT case decision comes out and the subsequent SPL. response then this might encourage Chairmen to hit Newco with a “No go to SFL3”.

If they had voted for the proposals today then they would have no further resourse to punish Newco on the EBTs

  18. Canadian firm Optimal Planning Solutions helps to compile SPL schedules and with next seasons fixture list on June 18th they need to know the make-up of the SPL by June the 4th.

So that gives 5 days from the vote till the fixture list being compiled.

  19. If you were an independent observer (maybe Uefa?)- Celtic’s behaviour has been impeccable & dignified. Can the same be said for der huns? Like a Sergio Leone Western where the villians are in the jailhouse waiting to be judged…Sneaky/Sandy threaten the court…their posse threaten the jury & everybody else…due process of law is stamped under their collective hoofs…it doesn’t look good for them if you were watching from the outside.

  20. theglasgowcelticway on

Their money will run out in a few weeks but Miller will give just enough to keep them alive, knowing the SPL are the most supine of all supine organisations.

Interesting that the clubs yet again pospone any decision on new co. Rangers it shows a complete disregard of the paying customers.Football clubs up and down Scotland will be asking fans to purchase new season tickets for next season and we have no idea who will be playing in it.The fans should tell these chancers where to stick there season tickets. 23. Sounds like Yorkston is fighting a one-man crusade – and quite rightly as his team are about to be relegated when they shouldn’t be. If he is demanding info. on EBTs then he must think that when that is disclosed then others will join him.

  27. Mort,

The rules say that Ross County will replace the relegated club sometime after the last league match, but whenever the board decides.

Article 15 says “the Board shall be entitled, at any time following the final League fixture in any Season, to require a Member to transfer its Share, at a price of £1, upon the Club owned and operated by that Member ceasing to be entitled to participate in the League as a result of its relegation from the League”

Rangers Administrators are now running the SPL, expect delay after delay while they sort out the NewCo.

  33. Given that 90+% of fans in most teams including Celtic want Rangers into Div 3 it appears from some posts anyway that CQN bucks the trend and many more than the 2% want Rangers newco in the SPL.
