Motherwell may hold casting vote

454

St Johnstone (through manager Steve Lomas) and Kilmarnock, through Rangers supporter (literal sense) Michael Johnston, have both declared their vote to allow a Newco to take Rangers place in the SPL next season.  Celtic will vote against and Dundee United appear open to persuasion.  The next most important team in the country is Motherwell.

Motherwell, alongside Celtic, Dundee United and St Johnstone have a place on the SPL board.  They are migrating towards ownership and control by a large number of small supporter-shareholders, they’ve benefited from Rangers demise and in July will feature in the Champions League qualification draw, broadcast live from Monaco.

On the downside, despite their on-field success this season, the club will have to trim football budget for the coming season as Champions League qualifying money does not make up for earning less from cup runs this season and inflation pushing costs up.

Motherwell fans seemed to enjoy their visit to Ibrox on Saturday but does anyone expect them to vote against Rangers?

  6. SPL statement:

The eleven member clubs present in person at today’s General Meeting unanimously called for the power to deal with any newco application to be moved from the Board to the clubs.

“This requires 21 clear days’ notice. The clubs will therefore meet again on 30 May to consider a resolution designed to achieve this. In the event that an application for transfer of share to a newco is received before 30 May, then it can be dealt with by the SPL Board. The SPL Board have indicated that they would, in those circumstances, call together the clubs before any such decision was made.”

“@TigerRoadRFC: can spl give retrospective punishment” I’m not sure, but would say BM would demand clarity and no retrospective punishment.

I don’t believe for one moment that Miller hasn’t been given a nod and a wink.He appears to have dropped his conditions.ASonOfDan is correct!there will be no sanctions against them next season and the clubs will blame each other.

    Possibly even a funny handshake.

  9. croydoncelticpunk @ 15:50,

You make some very good points, although I don’t think it’s much of a plan, more a necessity due to lack of alternatives.

But no R@ngers ’til the 2013/14 season in line with a restructured league would be a definite possibility.

    Hail Hail

Surely if TFOD were up to further skulduggery, they would have sent somebody along, even the cleaner.

Not sending someone really puts out a suspicious signal.

  17. Not really sure if the delay helps or hinders Rangers.

What I can´t get my head round, especially all this Bill Miller nonsense, is how a certain tennis playing Motherwell billionaire currently enjoying the Caribbean sun, who has 85% of the club shares, figures in all this.

  18. Ok, we could be about to see if there is any hope that the Celtic board will do the right thing. They have put their name to a proposal that the decision on a newco is taken by all clubs and not the board.

Either they have done this as they think it’ll be a better chance for a newco to be allowed in or for a newco to not be allowed in.

When and if this vote takes place, we will know what our board’s intentions are.

I’ve changed my mind on allowing things to pan out as I believed the Celtic board would do what was required of them provided it was in accordance with the rules. they have now asked for rules to be changed and I now think now is the time we let them no what we expect them to do.

Did you honestly think that Celtic would act any differently?

  21. tomthelennytim on

I think it was Mick11 who suggested Rangers not attending today meant there could not be a full vote of the members. I don’t know if this is accurate or not. However, if it is, then Celtic should not attend the vote on the 30th May. It would scupper the newhuns.

My season ticket is on hold until we know what is happening. Don’t think I am the only one either.

  28. So they want to change the rules so that the clubs and not the Board deal with a newco application?

I assume that would mean a Special Qualified Resolutions requiring 83% support? Or are they proposing to change that too?

The crux of this farce is Dignity agreeing a CVA without that they are gone, notwithstanding rapidly running out of cash.

Bill Miller’s offer is clearly not open to acceptance by Duff £ Phelps , so how can there be a CVA, there is no real offer!

A CVA needs to be agreed to allow the football authorities to permit Dignity to continue playing.

Doncaster, with an error of judgement, went on shortbread last week and with his own personal safety in mind noted that there were some examples in England where there had been a change in company structure at the same time that a CVA was agreed. My understanding is that these events in England required the CVA to be agreed before the football authorities allowed any newco access to the leagues.

So what are the chances of a CVA for dignity? 5% , 1%, 0%?

    Hugely important statement.

IF the vote was only the board,I think they would vote in favour of newco.

Now it’s over to the clubs I am less sure.

Vital pieces of info missing……What “split” is required to pass the vote or otherwise.

    1.a simple majority?

    2.10/2 ?

    3.Do rangers get a vote?

    4.Dunfermline?

    5.Ross county?

The BIG BIG one is if it’s a 10/2 split. If so,I believe a “no” vote will happen
