Mubarak brings echoes of another adamant player

1779

Occasionally an innocuous comment left here can stay with you for years.  The day following the 2005 defeat in Bratislava someone wrote, “I suspect we’ll find an injury in Nakamura’s fitness test”.  The player was scheduled to sign imminently, but with Champions League income looking unlikely, doubts emerged that Celtic would pay the money.

Soon others expressed doubts that Shunsuke would want to come, but within 48 hours of that defeat, he was sitting in front of the media at Celtic Park.  I was there, among a gaggle of Japanese and Scottish journos, when one of the locals asked why the prospect of being without European football didn’t put him off.

Shunsuke handled the question perfectly, “I am not here for six games of football, I have signed for Celtic and hope to play here for many years.”  Rumour has it that not everyone in the dressing room back then was equally as enthusiastic about life in Glasgow.

I’ve heard lots about Wakaso Mubarak in recent weeks, he appears to be a genuine talent, as well as being spirited.  What is most appealing about him is that he wants to be here.  This deal would not have happened if the player was not absolutely committed to coming to the club, and making his stay a success.

Back in August 2005 we didn’t know what we were getting with Naka, and I’m not going to burden Wakaso with a comparison to a player who turned out to be a transformational legend, but we need players with big personalities who can walk into the dressing room with the determination to be there, just as Naka did.

Welcome to Celtic, Wakaso.  Be yourself and you’ll love Glasgow; Glasgow will love you too.

Wakoso Mubarak likes to intimidate opposition players by tying two rabid mongeese on his head whilst lurking on the left wing

  4. Outrage porn is a modern-day symptom. It involves people actively searching out for reasons to be outraged.

It is clear that those unhappy with Paul67, his blog and his editorial decisions, have actively searched out the site, logged on and penned how outraged they are with him and his blog and his editorial.

Outrage porn is alive and kicking here…. :)

With regards to the ‘cheat years’ the club has no need to say a word on Sevco, the truth will always out and it will with them. The club is not Dot cotton it does not need to get involved in any of that. Plenty for the club to focus on concerning themselves.

Who cares about Sevco, the bigot pound comments etc, load of rubbish. It really gets to me.

We will continue on our course which is to build success and it is working regardless of what is happening elsewhere!

Said mongeese are often mistaken for hair. This can be a costly mistake and can result in the loss of fingers as many exteam-mates will attest to.

Spot on. ‘If’ the dead arrive next season our objective domestically will remain winning the league. Our sole objective will be to hammer them and gain 3 points when we play them. Just like every other team in the league.

    No more than that.

That’s interesting – I did not know that.

My own experience has been that going concerns have gone to the wall when accountants were promoted into MD positions.

On the other hand I have seen an MD listen to their FD and say ‘very good but here is what we are going to do’ and take an already big company through about 200% of organic growth.

It’s perhaps that those FTSE MDs/CEOs are forced to feed share prices with continual growth that makes them ‘able’ to invest – where our man not facing that on a daily basis reverts to type and only likes to see money coming in???

  12. Robert88 @ 13.38 with all due respect, the club should be shouting from the rooftops about being cheated out of millions by being denied entry to the CL by another club winning the tiltle while bankrupt.

  13. I don’t PL carefully drafting statements on the demise of Rangers. I want PL carefully drafting his signature on the contract of a decent striker.

  14. That Maribor F.C. must have a grudge against Scottish Football teams, they knocked Hibs out of the Europa lge , Celtic out of the champs lge, they even helped to Liquidate an old Glasgow club from govan.

You make a good point. If your looking for the biggest example of cheating forget Scottish football and look at cycling.

    What would that achieve?

There are so many issues with doing that, its not worth getting into, Celtic have had the correct stance, end of.

  22. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

I’ve just come on and can’t believe the criticism and lack of respect shown towards Paul 67 by some posters. Paul has given us CQN to post our thoughts not only on Celtic but a whole range of different topics. It is not his full time job but he takes time each day to post his own thoughts and very often to give us the BEST information that we can get on matters relating to our beloved Celtic. It is impossible for Paul to give fresh thoughts, ideas and information to us every dingle day. The top journalists are incapable of doing it. I couldn’t even contemplate attempting to do what Paul does on here. CQN was recommended to me by Bellshill Bhoy, a computer technician who carried out a lot of work in my school, 8 years ago. I cannot begin to tell you how much pleasure I have had from reading the myriad posts that appear on here as each year passes. It is a fantastic resource for Celtic supporters. It has crossed my mind on more than one occasion, “What happens if Paul 67 gets fed up and chucks it?” A huge hole would appear in my life and the same would happen to lots and lots of the faithful posters who entertain, bore, infuriate and inform us with their views.

If you are going to criticise Paul for his articles, I would suggest that you remember that you are in his house and should remember your manners and think carefully about your choice of words.

  23. Captain Beefheart @ 13.46 at no point have i said that i watch cycling, can’t stand it, it’s like watching paint dry and i agree it’s full of cheats.

I’m not sure it is quite so straightforward as all that.

It is one thing to state this stuff on a blog and quite another for Celtic to go public when there may not be conclusive proof.

While we are all pretty certain, the ridiculous outcome of the LNS inquiry, and more to the point the reasons why he came that his conclusion, means Celtic have to tread carefully on this issue.

There are legal issues to consider.

See all this guff about the bigot pound, what are we supposed to do, just not turn up if/when we have to play the newco?

Dundee United have had to play them twice and put them in their place. We may have to do so too. It was always on the cards. We’ve had to deal with far bigger obstacles placed in our way in our long history. Lets concentrate on how we can help put Celtic back on the right path regardless of what Sevco are up to.

I’d say anybody who cares about our club is a supporter, we both know that there are more supporters who’d like to go than do, but they can’t, because their family and children and bills come first.

All these yuppie supporters on here, who don’t know how much it hurts supporters who can’t afford the games, and who shower the less fortunates with insensitive stigma, they make me puke. And they dare abuse the poor as ‘huns’ – God help us.
