Mulgrew’s magnificent delivery

1279

I watched Scotland play a more accomplished Wales last night.  No one in blue played particularly well but when Charlie Mulgrew prepared to take a corner from the right in first half stoppage time we knew Wales were in danger.

The pace, low trajectory and movement Charlie gets on the ball negates the natural advantage the defending team has.  The goal had little to do with the young lad who got on the end of the cross, just as Celtic’s remarkable success from corners has little to do with their ability to attack the ball.

The Wee Oscar 4 Life team have asked me to pass on this message:

Wee Oscar 4 Life are delighted to be offering you the chance to win a fantastic and very unique auction prize.

We have been donated a very special bottle of 8 year old Bowmore, which has come straight from the cask. The Whisky is 59.4%, unlike a normal malt whisky which is cut to 40% proof.

The whisky was distilled on 13 March 2001, and bottled on 26 June 2009.  It has been donated by a very kind CQNer. However, not content with already donating 3 bottles from his share of the cask to raise funds for Wee Oscar , we now have his prized possession:

Bottle no 1 of 251.  A very special prize in aid of a very special wee bhoy.

My point is exactly that, it IS about Salmond, and the SNP. I’d vote for independence if the SSP were at the helm though :)

To grant him an independent state (where he would unavoidably be in charge at inception) is the folly here. The proof is there: re-construction of the rozzers, involvement with land deals and tax evasion with Minty and other bankers, courting of the meeja, appeasement of money men such as Trump. Any news on what happened to Christine Graham’s PA who published a blog on her former employer’s anti-Catholic sentiments?

Ian Bell made the point yesterday that Salmond would be facing an election shortly after the referendum.

He also made the point that within a year of splitting from the Czech Republic, the leader of Slovakia was on his road out, rejected by the people of the newly independent state. Come the referendum, you will voting for Scotland. Not Salmond, not the SNP, not

Johann Lamont or for that matter Ruth Davidson. If you want another hundred years Camerons and Ian Duncan Smiths on your own and your children and grand children’s heads be it.

How about this for a scenario?

Bawface wins his referendum and there is a mandate to negotiate

Cameron loses UK election to Labour. The margin is lower than the sum of Labour seats returned in Scotland.

SNP loses Scottish election to Labour

    What happens next?

I thought it would be something like that . It would be too good an opportunity to spurn . The media coverage would be massive and for us to link our name to it would be very beneficial .

I’m probably not the most qualified person on here to voice an opinion on the independence debate, (I last qualified for the vote in Scotland in 1979) but hey ho here we go. I canvassed for Donald Dewar when he won Glasgow Garscadden when there was a particularly tight battle with the SNP -this was just before Maggie came to power so everyone was a bit aware that times were a changing -I can say with absolute certainty that there was no religious element to that campaign, I can also say that the SNP candidate (Keith Bovey) took his defeat with grace, and his son who was at Glasgow Uni at the time (Mungo Bovey) sucked it up as well. From that time until now I have never identified the SNP with anything to do with anti-Catholicism, so Ernie Lynch I’m sorry but you’re wrong. I would vote against independence again, as I voted against Devolution in 1978, but my vote would have nothing to do with sectarianism.

I don’t expect that the SNP are going to promise to dissolve itself as soon as there is a Yes vote so people are placing a lot of hope in the view that a Yes vote is not a vote for a future SNP run Scotland. Ian Bell cited just about the only incident of a new nation rejecting someone who led them to that state.

Washington was the 1st president of the USA, Mandela in S. Africa, Walesa in Poland, and Havel in the Czech Republic. It is very rare to find an electorate which will reject the guys wot won us our freedom.

Mind you, I expect speculation about who will run an Independent Scotland to be a bit premature.

Interesting idea but every election since 1945 has been won by whoever was voted for by England. Essentially the Scottish vote was worthless on each occasion to the result.

There would need to be a very close thing down there for that to happen.

  10. Ok its pretty forced (no pun intended) and not sure what it’s got to do with the channel but…
