Mulgrew’s magnificent delivery

1279

I watched Scotland play a more accomplished Wales last night.  No one in blue played particularly well but when Charlie Mulgrew prepared to take a corner from the right in first half stoppage time we knew Wales were in danger.

The pace, low trajectory and movement Charlie gets on the ball negates the natural advantage the defending team has.  The goal had little to do with the young lad who got on the end of the cross, just as Celtic’s remarkable success from corners has little to do with their ability to attack the ball.

The Wee Oscar 4 Life team have asked me to pass on this message:

Wee Oscar 4 Life are delighted to be offering you the chance to win a fantastic and very unique auction prize.

We have been donated a very special bottle of 8 year old Bowmore, which has come straight from the cask. The Whisky is 59.4%, unlike a normal malt whisky which is cut to 40% proof.

The whisky was distilled on 13 March 2001, and bottled on 26 June 2009.  It has been donated by a very kind CQNer. However, not content with already donating 3 bottles from his share of the cask to raise funds for Wee Oscar , we now have his prized possession:

Bottle no 1 of 251.  A very special prize in aid of a very special wee bhoy.

  2. If Scottish independence is going to lead to an increase in anti Irish Catholic bigotry, then someone had better tell the Orange Lodges. They are saying Ulster people of Scottish origin should be allowed to vote in the referendum. They are even threatening to take up arms if Scotland votes Yes.

You set your political compass by what the OO say?

    How odd.

Scotland has been at the forefront of

fighting for workers rights before and since

    universal suffrage was introduced.

Where has it got us by being in the Union ?

  6. Angela Merkel arrives at the customs desk in Paris Airport.

    Customs Officer. “Country of birth?”

    Angela Merkel. “Germany.”

    Customs Officer. “Occupation?”

Angela Merkel. ” No, I’m just staying a few days.”

  7. Tommysbhoy,

I am going to Turkey on Monday for a week, to Belek, I think its fairly quiet, not too much outside the hotel, not sure if there is enough to keep kids entertained,

I was in kemer in october for a fortnight, again all inclusive, excellent hotel, but nothing outside, these areas don’t have many british visitors, mainly germans and russians,

Marmaris would probably he best bet for things to do, don’t know how good the hotels are mind you

  8. Gordon64, agree the debate on independence should not be about whether the SNP still have anti Catholic tendencies. ( if they do , it would change with time as Catholics join their ranks ). I have no allegiance to any political party.

My straightforward view is that in the world we live in today is an independent Scotland financially viable. In my view it is not. I could post tons of anecdotal evidence ; but in short the money will leave the country. In Quebec house prices fell dramatically during the independence votes. It took time then recovered big time when they stayed as one.

The world we live in has changed. The world economic model is flawed. The big guys will be more secure ( ok apart from BRIC related economies or small tax havens ) ; survival will mean America, China, Russia and EU if we sort out the currency mess.

The other reason to avoid independence ; can you imagine Salmond and the wee girl running the country. They would do well to manage a Tesco. Salmond is a failed junior BoS banking manager who cannot believe the gullible are falling for it.

Financial basket case led by chancer means a No vote for me.

If it’s a Yes it’s not a problem for me as I will still maintain some property in the county. However Salmond will not get one cent of me. My accountant John O’Hara will take care of that.

Independence will see a flight of money ( I have discussed with other like minded people . I hope we avoid that as the last thing I want to see is he ordinary people punished by an incompetent Salmond. They will receive plenty of warnings and in a way when the pain comes and they suffer they cannot complain they cannot say they were not warned. I will be enjoying Francois Faiveleys Bourgogne with a perfect peace of mind.

I am sure Dermot will be ahead of the pack and there will be no impact on the Hoops.

Maybe we should have concentrated on fighting the English.

They are, after all, the real enemy.

I don’t know him. If you think that one can be the communist and Christian you need to read:

Early comments on Communism and Marxism

    Pius IX “Quanta Cura” 1864

    Pius IX “Sylabus” 1864

Leo XII “ Quod Apostolici Mumeris” 1878

Pius XI “Divini Redemptoris” 1937 That one clearly says that nobody can be good Catholic and Communist.

    Thomthethim at 20:49

No, Marxism and Communism do not come from Christianity. If you speak about philosophy, Max was the Jew. His philosophy takes some ideas from Judaism but it’s caricature of Judaism. The Communist who tried to convert Catholics used to say : was Jesus not the first Catholic? No, Jesus was not the Communist.

    RobertTressel 20:43

I understand where you are coming from. Can agree with some of your sentiments, or at least can understand them. I hope you don’t count me to the group of people who never read about Marxism. Studied philosophy at Warsaw Uni, lived under Communism. My opinion and experience is that Marxism and Communism come from evil.

Using your language, Sir. There is also devil working hard in saint things. He would love to see us all dead. No matter what way you let him going with you or me, he would be happy when you are me is dead and the devil does not have to care about you anymore.

People tend to see good ideas in Communism and forget that at the end of the road there is corruption, no free speech and victims.

That would be enough. I don’t want to bother you with my political views tonight.

  11. If Scotland was independent

would we have shut the coalmines,

    Ravenscraig, and the shipyards ?

  12. THE EXILED TIM

Angela Merkel? Her Gran Gran parents were Polish. Her Gran Da was Polish, Mr Kazimierczak. She is at least 25 percent Polish. Just to let you know some interesting news :-)

  13. Gordon64 ravenscraig was not competitive. So would the SNP have nationalised and funded it by the taxpayer ( by increasing taxes ) — possibly. It’s the same or the shipyards ; they could not compete with Korea etc ( who were also state funded ) . For very good reasons you head towards nationalised state industries to employ people and end up in the soviet model , which failed 30 odd years ago.

That said thatcher pushed out manufacturing and that was wrong …….unlike Germany.

  14. Zbyszek

I hope I didn’t offend you, it wasn’t the intent.

I knew she had Polish blood, didn’t realise it was so much.

Jokes are hard to judge, you will always offend someone…..so here goes…no offence is intended, I thought is was funny…

A cabbie pick up a nun She gets into the cab and notices the cab driver won’t stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring. He replies, ‘I have a question to ask you, but I don’t want to offend you.’ She answers, ‘My son, you cannot offend me. When you’re as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I’m sure that there’s nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.”Well, I’ve always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.’ She responds, ‘Well, let’s see what we can do about that: #1 – you have to be single and #2 – you must be Catholic.’ The cab driver is very excited and says, ‘Yes, I’m single and Catholic!’ ‘OK,’ the nun says, ‘Pull into the next alley.’ The nun fulfills his fantasy, with a kiss that would make a hooker blush. But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying. ‘My child, why are you crying?’ asked the nun,“I’ve sinned forgive me, I lied I must confess, I’m married and I’m Jewish.’ The nun replied, ‘That’s OK, my name is Kevin and I’m going to a Halloween party.’

  15. zbyszek,

    Apologies.my point was ill made.

What I meant that if the tenets of Christianity were followed, there would have been no beed for Communism.

For Communism to ” work “, the State had to have complete control over the individual, therefore God had to be taken out of the equation, along with free will.

Communism is evil, as you know only too well.

In my lifetime, I have seen the destruction of Britain’s industry, by the Party’s control of the major unions.

  16. There are 545 days to go until the Independence referendum. Some of you guys are running a 100 metre sprint at the start of a marathon.

If this pace keeps up CQNrs are going to start their own referendum to end all talk on this issue

Let me try and get us back onto fitba

Who thinks that a continuation of the Scotland team’s poor form will in WC 2014 and Euro 2016 qualification will scupper the Yes Vote? Alternatively will an England win in Brazil hasten independence? :-)

  17. Ernie

Pray tell us what we should all think and vote.

You seem to know all the answers.

You may want to also look at an area called Lara Beach – all themed hotels, and no need to go out from any of them.

I did the Royal Wings, which had superb facilities, including indoor cinema and bowling alley, nightclub or piano bar. Outside full water park – so would suit all ages

I have never wanted , merely, to play in the EPL. I wanted Celtic to play in a league commensurate with our standing and offering us a chance of aiming for the top.

If joining the EPL was all that was open to us, I’d take it but my first preference is for wholesale reorganisation by Europe’s top clubs into regional leagues untainted by a single national identification
