My bet is on Kris

1124

It’s ‘get back on the horse’ time for Celtic tomorrow when they face Inverness at Celtic Park.  The Highlanders will arrive with a different type of momentum about them from the home team.  On their last outing Celtic conceded a league goal and lost a league game for the first time since before Jock Stein’s arrival in 1965*.  They are now out of all three cup competitions and have an unassailable 19 point lead in the league.  Talk in some places has already turned to giving the younger players an outing.

By contrast it’s all kicking off for Inverness, who humbled Hearts to reach the first Celtic Park final of the season, just two weeks away.  The excitement in Inverness is palpable.  Betting odds are seldom generous on Celtic at home but with all the sub-currents surrounding this one I’d prefer not to predict an outcome.

What we need to do is match the energy of Inverness and ensure our passing and movement remains crisp.

If you are tempted into a bet, don’t look past Kris Commons to get things moving.  He is our go-to guy when we’re looking for an ignition button.  Kris has been phenomenal in front of goal this season but he has failed to score in four outings.  The last time this happened was 51 weeks ago.  My bet is that he can’t wait to get on the field and put things right.

The outstanding Celtic Graves Society are breathing life into the memory of Peter Dowds, who played for Celtic from 1889.  Writing in 1936, Willie Maley wrote about Peter, “He did not find the ball.  Nothing so common.  It found him.”

A short ceremony will take place at Peter’s grave, at Abbey Cemetery, Elderslie, at 11:30 tomorrow.  If you live in the area or can make it along, please do so.  You will hear from Jim Craig and others, and get infused with our early history in a way you’ll never do sitting at a screen. Details here.

There is a little over two weeks to go before the CQteN St Patrick’s Night Dinner on Friday, 14 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The beneficiary of the night will be Kholoni Primary School, Malawi, where we will fund Mary’s Meals to build a kitchen for 1200 kids who currently don’t have meal facilities.

We have received some incredible assistance already, but you can get involved by ordering a personalised beanie hat, with your name on one side and CQN on the other.

Hats cost £15 each and if you order before 7 March you can collect yours at the CQteN Dinner. If you’re not attending the dinner (and why not?) the £15 will cover postage and packaging. If you ordered a Virtual Ticket, you’re personalised hat is part of your package. All profits go to the school kitchen.

Take a look at the front and back of the hats. To order, email hatfrompat@celticquicknews.co.uk with name, whether you are attending CQteN and address if not, and I’ll get your message to Pat.

  1. Good morning my friends in Celtic,

Its a good morning because we are still here and thriving.

Without rewriting history that position may not have been valid without Fergus McCann.

Celtic as we know them may not exist.

As a consequence CQN may not exist.

That is how important Fergus McCann is to us and to Celtic and is a poignant reminder of the stakes that were played out in 1994.

Nobody is saying that Fergus is “immortal ” or anything similar. He was an abrasive, stubborn businessman who pitched a five year plan and completed what it said on the tin.

For the record; a majority of Celtic fans did not boo Fergus McCann. It was a minority, yes a vociferous minority as always seems to be the case.

It should also be acknowledged that apart from the profit he made he also gained in his private life. Possibly at the end of his tenure that was his greatest gain.

In summary we were also good for him.

Had a blazing row with our 18 year old girl last night, reading back amidst the petty squabbling there are some heart-warming posts that emphasise that Family is everything. Family is indeed precious and this is the most important message from CQN to me this morning.

    HH to all.

meanwhile……… Kitalba stands feet away from his keyboard in a wide stance, hands at waist height, upturned palms with fingers gesticulating back and forth in a ‘come ahead’ motion…….MOOAAANN THENNN he growls menacingly as he waits for the page to refresh…..

    This ain’t over……

    oh no

this ain’t over by a long shot.

  5. Olivia!

    Happy birthday!

A noble name which derives from Latin.

My old Italian paternal granny was known as Livia – a diminutive of Olivia – even ‘tho her given name when she was baptized was Flavia, which is also a noble Latin name!

    Ave ave!!

  6. cant make game today so season ticket passed to nephew. if anyone gets a chance to post a few photo’s of progress outside celtic park it would be appreciated!!!

the PLC throwing money at infustructure projects i.e. disabled seating area, wifi, new family section, bar in stadium for us wee men, landscaping work, avenue of hero’s, new proposed museum, superstore etc… with additional phases proposed for future i.e. standing area, hotel, bars, restaurants, offices, housing etc… inho these projects should be given a high level of priority by our club.

PL is much criticised but few could argue (new) facilities in and around the stadium are non needed if celtic wish to prosper. even the most basic facilities (access to tea, a pee or sit down) is missing when outside the stadium on match days and non-match days. imho celtic needs to up its game on and off the pitch.

we have a good scouting system that had help NFL to develop a good young team that is heading for three in a row. we appear to have a core of young players in the academy with a change to progress into the first team. we have been in the group stages of the e/l once and c/l twice in the last three years. celtic are in the black and returning a profit that is being reinvested.

inho celtic are heading in the right direction

but need to liaise more with supporters as there is a distinct lack of connectivity between the board and the people at the gate.

p.s. I will get to as many games as I can this season and I will be renewing my season ticket for 2014/15

  21. 127 years on and still we revere Brother Walfrid,James McGrory and Paul McStay.

Big Jock is just immortal and his spirit is still with us and always will be.

127 years from now …..will our great grandchildren talk more about Fergus McCann or Henrik Larsson,Dermot Desmond or Bobby Murdoch,Peter Lawell or Billy McNeil ?

Monuments such as stands should be named after people who will always be remembered in our history and not businessmen who will have or did have relatively short periods at our club.

The great players are the ones we paid our hard earned money to watch honour this and a massive emotional investment, too.

    Just my opinion like.

  22. Neg_Anon

I agree that historically we have failed to build and kick on from a position of strength. I was a bemused young man in the late 70s/early 80s when we seemed to lose our way. Or was I spoiled growing up in the Stein years?

The board do care v much for the bottom line but its not for their personal gain. I really think that following the hun debacle, they are going to watch the pennies so carefully that no-one can point the finger.

Fergus was the figurehead at a pivotal time and made mistakes along the way. He did what he said he would. He was straight. He is a true tim.

He deserves our respect and praise.

I totally accept your point that the fans are the driving force of our club and that the board at any given time are custodians on behalf of the fans. Although it doesn’t look that way sometimes. Why don’t you stand for the board or get active in one of the supporters’ groups? (Maybe you already have, in which case, Chapeax)
