My bet is on Kris

1124

It’s ‘get back on the horse’ time for Celtic tomorrow when they face Inverness at Celtic Park.  The Highlanders will arrive with a different type of momentum about them from the home team.  On their last outing Celtic conceded a league goal and lost a league game for the first time since before Jock Stein’s arrival in 1965*.  They are now out of all three cup competitions and have an unassailable 19 point lead in the league.  Talk in some places has already turned to giving the younger players an outing.

By contrast it’s all kicking off for Inverness, who humbled Hearts to reach the first Celtic Park final of the season, just two weeks away.  The excitement in Inverness is palpable.  Betting odds are seldom generous on Celtic at home but with all the sub-currents surrounding this one I’d prefer not to predict an outcome.

What we need to do is match the energy of Inverness and ensure our passing and movement remains crisp.

If you are tempted into a bet, don’t look past Kris Commons to get things moving.  He is our go-to guy when we’re looking for an ignition button.  Kris has been phenomenal in front of goal this season but he has failed to score in four outings.  The last time this happened was 51 weeks ago.  My bet is that he can’t wait to get on the field and put things right.

The outstanding Celtic Graves Society are breathing life into the memory of Peter Dowds, who played for Celtic from 1889.  Writing in 1936, Willie Maley wrote about Peter, “He did not find the ball.  Nothing so common.  It found him.”

A short ceremony will take place at Peter’s grave, at Abbey Cemetery, Elderslie, at 11:30 tomorrow.  If you live in the area or can make it along, please do so.  You will hear from Jim Craig and others, and get infused with our early history in a way you’ll never do sitting at a screen. Details here.

There is a little over two weeks to go before the CQteN St Patrick’s Night Dinner on Friday, 14 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The beneficiary of the night will be Kholoni Primary School, Malawi, where we will fund Mary’s Meals to build a kitchen for 1200 kids who currently don’t have meal facilities.

We have received some incredible assistance already, but you can get involved by ordering a personalised beanie hat, with your name on one side and CQN on the other.

Hats cost £15 each and if you order before 7 March you can collect yours at the CQteN Dinner. If you’re not attending the dinner (and why not?) the £15 will cover postage and packaging. If you ordered a Virtual Ticket, you’re personalised hat is part of your package. All profits go to the school kitchen.

Take a look at the front and back of the hats. To order, email hatfrompat@celticquicknews.co.uk with name, whether you are attending CQteN and address if not, and I’ll get your message to Pat.

So I was right all along, you were the Prince, and Edmund too, and all the rest too, so why did you have to lie about it so often? You know I hate opera… how do you know that Tom? How do you know what you state without any knowledge is even close to the truth?

Am I up for a beer in O’Malley’s… no. It is the most pretentious pub in Brisbane. Pick another, I don’t go to pubs here very often, but for you, I’ll make the effort.

  2. I remember our first game after Fergus came to the rescue. The night before a few mates and me decided we’d go to the game, away to St Johnstone.

On the Saturday morning of the game I picked up 4 tickets from the CSC in London Road and off we went.

We were standing outside the stadium before the game waiting on The Bunnet’s arrival when this car drove up and stopped, as luck would have it, right in front of me.

My memory is that as the door of the car opened, the crowd surged forward and I was almost pushed into the car on top of the wee man.

I wonder if Fergus remember’s me?

Byrne scored in the first minute in a I-0 victory.

I never denied I was Prince Myshkin. It was my username on the Scotsman forum and eventually I used it on here too. I changed my moniker because of your constant harassment and cyber bullying. When I did, you made it your mission in life to find me, and you succeeded. I never denied that one. You became obsessed with it though, to such an extent that you made CQN life a misery for several innocent posters whenever I simply stayed away from the blog because of your constant stalking of me. How many innocent posters did you harass? Even personal friends of Pauls67 got the treatment.

Tell me, did you ever apologise to Micky before he died? You gave him so much grief because you thought he was me. I did notice that once you realised what you had done, you stayed away from the blog for months on end, only resurfacing after his demise. Shame on you. How much would it have cost you to simply apologise to the poor guy? But that’s just you all over isn’t it?

All bullies are cowards. You know it mate. I’ll tell you that to your face. Any time.

Will wait for the official word on it but if that is how it transpires I hope the club obliterate tin foil heid and the rest of the moonhowlers .

They have been too quiet and passive over most things but credit where it’s due , the statement in response to this farcical allegation was the robust one released in ages .

Balde was excellent last time we played Inverness at home, but I still think Lenny won’t start him. He does need more game time, however, and it’s frustrating to see him brought on with 5 minutes to go – if we’re 3-0 up, surely 30 minutes isn’t too much to ask?

Glad to see you’ve come round to the diamond shape, but it doesn’t suit Forrest. I disagree with playing him in the hole – he’s been tried there many times, and it hasn’t worked. With packed defences, you need Commons’ combination of strength and vision, which is why I’ve always wanted to see how Pukki does in that role.

We’ve yet to see a better demonstration of how to play up front in the diamond than the way Commons and Stokes did v Motherwell. No doubt we won’t get the chance again now that Griffiths is being picked, along with the received wisdom that Kris isn’t a striker.

    Morning all,

Having toured the Karaoke bars or Partick last night — Bars that used to be straight forward wee boozers in my childhood days and in the 80’s when I wet my whistle there regularly — I wake this morning with one question burning in my head.

At what age do you stop mis-spending your youth?

I hope Celtic Park is not “shouty” today — not sure I have the constitution for that!

  12. There is none so blind as those that will not see( or do not want to see)

We as Celtic supporters have a lot to be thankful to the blessed Fergus for. I subsequently disagreed with many of his initiatives for instance the Bhoys against bigotry because I believe the rationale was to say that “our problem” was as ingrained and endemic as the deid ones much like the approach to the “shame game” et al and I feel that that analysis was fundamentally flawed.

Anything that I have read on our near demise stresses that the securing the £1m was not going to be a problem but that the BOS demand for the £4m within the week was and that without Fergus that would just not have happened. That is in No way to demean the contributions of the Keanes et al but without Fergus I would not have been able to disagree with some of the ways in which he ran our club because there would not have been a Celtic Football Club to run with an unbroken history.

What I do remember are the sleepless nights and the gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach as they neared 10IAR.

I remember the appointment of Bobby Tait to their match with Killie in their penultimate game of the season. I remember the added on time to give them every opportunity to score and how that backfired so disastrously. I also remember how we then contrived to pass up on the chance the next day against Dunfermiline to stop their 10 because thanks to a good friend from the Peter Scarff club I was there.

I was also there the next week to experience the unbridled joy of winning our first title in ten years. I missed the supporters bus and arrived home three days later in Belfast skint, minging but very very happy after a brief sojourn in Linwood.

I was too young to really appreciate 67 refusing to come out from behind the sofa after Inter scored, I was devastated after Feyenoord. Like most Celtic supporters I have witnessed and felt/tasted the highs and the lows. For both I am grateful because I feel that I appreciate the highs more because of some of the lows.

To summate I feel and it is personal (but not without an evidence base) that without Fergus MY best memories as a Celtic supporter have a lot to do with his involvement with our Club namely 98 and what it meant to me.

I don’t want him beatified /sainted but I do want him to get the recognition that he deserves and for the blight on our past that was the booing as he unfurled the league flag to be rectified. People who disagree don’t clap simples.

  14. Dundee United were very impressive last night. They played most of their passes forward and did it at pace. They kept the pressure up all through the match and Hibs were fortunate to only lose 3-1.

Hibs were poor but they didn`t try to play defensively.

It was a different type of game from our typical Celtic league match where the other team usually packs the midfield and defence.

  15. Gold Coast Tom:

There were two names I never, ever accused you of being, the Prince was one of them. There are others but I can’t be arsed dreging them up. I could quite easily dredge up several posts by you where you repeatedly deny being several different posters.

But do you know something Tom, I can’t be arsed doing that either, although I have them all only a two minute search away. I’ve come to the conclusion if you need to be ten different people to get through a single day, then that is your problem.

Regards Micky, I haven’t a clue what you are talking about but please re-post any post where I accuse any Mickey of being you. Please, I insist.

I reckon you and about 5000 others walked into the media trap. I hear what you say but sorry, doesn’t wash mate. You played into the LL hands and in turn gave the huns a right good laugh. Twenty years later the msm still play it up. I had a go a few close by who were booing, but remember one guy threatening to knock heads in. An own-goal and a shameful day at CP.

Agreed about United. They’ve been excellent the last 2 Fridays and I remain surprised that they’re still around 5/1 to lift the Scottish Cup. Of all the SPL teams Dundee Utd are the one I dislike the least ;-)

And do you really think if I drove a personal friend, or friends, of Paul67, from this blog, Paul67 would allow me to continue with my cyber bullying? I think you’ve indulged one fantasy beyond your brains capacity to recollect or to compute.

  23. So on over on old SevcoMedia they’ve just discovered the Albion Car Park/Club Deck situation. This response is gaining lots of +ve replies:

“So laxey partners/Easdales super duper master plan is to loan Rangers £1.5m knowing that the club will become insolvent in a few weeks meaning they lose about 95% of that money in a potential pence in the pound cva. Then they will block the opening of the Albion meaning all the millions they’ve spent in shares in the company will be lost just to get a car park that’s only real value is to Rangers football club??? Wow Dr evil style planning from these guys….”

They’re just too dumb to realise that Laxeys will take control and then lease it back (probably for more than it generates in club deck ticket sales), so the stadium can stay fully open.

    Idiots.

Unionists knew about letters to OTR ( on the runs) for quite some time. They have participated in Policing boards at which they were discussed and there are minutes to attest to that fact. The reason they are being disingenuous is that there are two elections in the offing and it is much easier to play to the baying mob than to lead.
