Neither Ajax nor Celtic will be overconfident

508

Ajax sit top of the Dutch Eredivisie, ahead of fourth-placed PSV, who picked up three points in the Champions League last night. Four wins and a draw, away to Twente on Saturday, is a near-perfect start to the domestic campaign, although that was only Twente’s second point of the season, if that provides a glimmer of hope.

Form has been less convincing in Europe. An honourable 2-2 draw away to Rapid Vienna was made meaningless by a 2-3 defeat in Amsterdam in the Champions League qualifiers. Ajax then endured a tense two-leg Europa League qualifier against Czechs, Jablonec, which ended in a 1-0 aggregate win. Not that we should be dismissive of anyone on European form.

What will give Ronny Deila room for some encouragement is who Ajax have faced so far in the league. AZ (13th placed), Willem II (15th), NEC (10th) ADO Den Haag (12th), before dropping those points to Twente (16th). All they can do is beat the teams before them, but they will not have been stretched domestically. Even Jablonec are struggling in 6th place in the Czech league. Celtic should be able to provide a test at a higher tempo.

By any measure, Celtic are not without their problems. We’ve not kept a home clean sheet since the opening day of the league campaign against Ross County, and we’ve won only one of our last four away games – and that was against Dundee United who lost four on the bounce. But there’s three points to play for tomorrow, and I doubt either team are taking them for granted.

  1. Regarding John Paul Taylor

    I have met the young man a few times, in fact he sat at my table in Vegas for dinner at the NACSC and I bumped into him a few times during that week.

    All I can say is he is a very well mannered young man, a big big Celtic supporter and has a good sense of humour, and a ver good listener, and has time for every one, actually the perfect man for the job title that he has, suits him down to a T.

    I also noted that he has a bit of street in him and it makes me wonder about this letter, mischievous? Yes he could be and letting them stew? Yes he may be, but what I will tell you that in my opinion, if a letter was sent out it wouldent have been done without some one above giving him the OK to do it, and if he is saying nothing right now, it’s because of that too, I’m intersected on the outcome, do I think the letter is a fake,? knowing the little I spent with the guy? I think it’s fake, yes.

    Re the Celtic content on the site outwith the blog. Extremely disappointed to read the click bait/ Danny Wilson comment. It is Celtic quick news.

    Sorry, let me clarify. In the discussion about it seeming quiet on the blog, I had noticed something similiar a lot recently but thought maybe it was typical of days between matches, less news after the transfer window closing etc, so didnt think anything else of it.

    I then noticed others had the same observation and linked it to the introduction of the new site. The major change is you have to search out the latest article amongst a number of other articles… not hard, but when there is an extra click involved you may lose some people… call it human nature or whatever. But the content of the articles has all been very good, and obviously when you are writing an article you want a catchy headline… maybe every article is clickbait to an extent. As I say most of the content has been very interesting and I had to go back to the Danny Wilson story to find one that didnt maybe stand up, so don’t take it too seriously. The main point I , and I’m sure its only me, am making is that I enjoyed the old format with the blog there on opening the site but then my eyesight wouldn’t be the best anyway.

    I will get used to the new layout in time:)

    =========================================

    His courtesy in dealing with an overseas enquiry I made of him reinforces the high opinion you have of him.

    He couldn`t have been more helpful.

    Or,to put it another way…………….

    A good Tim.

    What more could we want looking after our P.R.

    As I said earlier it reflects badly on the club that so many believed it might be true in the 1st place.

    ====%%===

    I would say it is a true reflection of the hostile environment in which Celtic operate and it’s high time we all wisened up to it.

    One of the consequences of Res12 is discovering how hostile that environment is. In spite of media and SFA knowing what went on in 2011 the SFA stonewall and are given cover by a compliant or frightened media.

    It means justice never gets done or its wheels grind slowly.

    It is also a reflection on Scottish society and as one media editor said to me when presented with evidence ” I know it stinks, you know it stinks” Whilst he meant LNS that was just a reflection of what we are up against.

    I am hopeful the full story will emerge particularly as our unfriendly numbnuts from Ibrox try to paint themselves as victims but it’s like wading through treacle.

    My concern is if we play Janko tonight he is good going forward big and strong and has pace the weakest part of his game is his defending. As I think at times tonight we will be under the cosh that part of his game concerns me. H.H

  7. TRADITIONALIST88

    Thanks for clarifying.

    On the Danny Wilson story, we were bang on. We said that Celtic had extensively scouted the player and he was on the list albeit behind Boyata. When we signed Boyata, Wilson was advised that Celtic weren’t pursuing their interest and he went to Ibrox.

    We also broke the Scott Allan story and again our information was 100pc correct while the MSM knew nothing of the club’s intention re the player.

  8. Looking for a Celtic bar around Loch Lomond/Balloch to watch the game tonight if anyone can help?

    Oh I absolutely agree with you, but some in here just use it as another negative to beat the club up with, as for me? The Hun that could out slag or out debate me haven’t been born yet as far as my travels have taken me, and I’ve been around, water off a ducks back.

    Lurking Huns GIRFUYs

  10. Any criticism of John Paul is in my opinion is well wide of the mark. He is, as a previous poster stated, up to his ass in making sure our fellow supporters are safe and well in Amsterdam. Not I think an easy task given the events on our last visit

    By comparison this non issue, hoax or not, is nothing more than a distraction from all the other issues he has to deal with.

    I know he received over 17k emails in the past year and has replied to more

    than 11k of them directly to deal with issues raised by us the Celtic support.

    Of course lazy journalists and our enemies will use the story to mock us but I hope we can see this for what it is. An attempt to deflect attention from other more weighty issues regarding the demise of another club and ongoing legal issues arising from that liquidation
