Nerves jangle a week ahead of Europe

890

You and I have been through a few close seasons together, so  it’s no surprise we have this uncomfortable feeling as we look ahead to (hopefully) four hugely important Champions League qualifiers while contemplating how ring-rusty Celtic have looked preseason.  These games really don’t matter, of course, they are there to allow us to experiment and build fitness for the real challenges ahead, but you would rather we were turning teams over 4-0 than being on the receiving end.  Evidence, perhaps, that the experiments were leading somewhere.

Lots of coverage today of the fall-out from Friday’s meeting between the SFA and Sevco, some of it informed.  Huge issues clearly still remain before they will be granted permission to join the SFA but they would not be helped by their prospective manager, Ally McCoist, walking away this week.   Sevco have not sold many season tickets but if McCoist goes their chances of doing to will become increasingly scarce. Friday’s comment from McCoist sounded like a scene-setter for a resignation letter.

BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS – I remember seeing a skip with the proprietary legend “WIMPEY WASTE MANAGEMENT” on it.

Underneath was scrawled “SO DO BALFOUR BEATTY”

    :)

How can the Buddies afford to run the midden? Are they mad? I wouldn’t be too happy if I was a fan.

Estadio – Ally called to say thank you for not making fun of his genitalia. (thumbsup)

  4. The new-found friendship between Norwich City and Scottish giants Celtic will have the chance to expand further tomorrow night, as the two clubs play out a pre-season friendly.

The second match in the Canaries pre-

season schedule sees them travel to

Celtic Park to continue building their

    fitness for the upcoming Premier

    League season.

Over 18,000 people saw City beat the

Glasgow side at Carrow Road in May,

as full-back Adam Drury was given a

    testimonial celebration following 11

    years with Norwich.

It turned out to be 33-year-old Drury’s

final match before a switch to

    Championship side Leeds United, as

well as manager Paul Lambert’s final

match in charge before leaving for Aston

    Villa.

    Former players such as Darren

    Huckerby, Dani Pacheco and Henri

    Lansbury returned for an entertaining

    match that City won 2-0.

was the jovial spirit of around 3,000

Hoops’ supporters that will last long in

the memories of Norwich fans however,

bringing a great atmosphere to Norwich

that saw green and white shirts fill the

city from early morning through until

after the match in the evening.

    Supporters are already talking about

the match on the message board at

    http://www.pinkun.com

Celtic fan Glasgow’s Green & White

registered to welcome Canaries fans to

Glasgow, saying: “To all fans coming up

over the next few days, I hope you

enjoy Glasgow and your visit to

    Paradise.

“Pub-wise the centre of town is

worthwhile during the day and mid-

afternoon or pre-match you can walk to

the Gallowgate area of the city, this is

    the Celtic part of town.

“You will get a warm welcome in all

    these boozers and it’s about a 10-

minute straight walk to the ground from

    there.

“Celtic offer a good tour of the stadium

as well which explains our history etc. I

hope you all enjoy our city the way we

    did yours!”

Norwich fan And Smith Must Score

    replied: “Thanks for the pre-match

    welcome Glasgow. I’m looking forward

to visiting Paradise. I’m told there could

be around 1,200 of us there on the

night, not quite the huge turnout you

managed at our place but pretty

impressive by us for such a long-

    distance friendly.

“Don’t be too surprised if you hear a

few Canary fans with Scottish accents.

There were quite a few the last time we

played at Carlisle so expect the same

    this time.”

While fellow City supporter South of the

Border said: “I will be driving up. We

should be leaving 25 degrees of

sunshire down here in East Anglia, hope

we don’t have to endure some of your

    usual ‘Scottish summer weather’!

Like you we haven’t had the best start

to our pre-season so hoping that

improves, would probably settle for an

    agreeable draw?”

  5. We just can’t seem to get the defence right. We appear to be heading back to the eighties in that we have a good team with a sound keeper but the defence may hold us back.

The team had a good look to it in Rennes and Udinese but that was well into the campaign going on the previous two seasons we seem to be slow starters.

Its seems to be all systems go for the Brechin cup tie with the match confirmed as Sunday despite their opponents lacking a SFA registration. Strange situation – who is in the better position now Sevco or SFA?

Maybe the match wont go ahead as planned on Sunday.

Has this changed recently, due to the huns getting kicked out? has the £50 opt out option now been dropped?

I purchased 2 x £50 tickets already this year and these were opt out hun games. I assume the £129 price was opt in hun games which will now be replaced by the Dundee games. Seems a lot extra to go and watch Dundee, but not Celtic’s fault

Think we will need to find a place in this ragers saga for the naked rambler, he is just about as mental as some of the bomber brown brigade

could the FPLG be the new naked rambler?

  12. 10 mins if you were a hun getting chased.

    I’d allow 20-30 mins.

    Not including refreshment stops.

At times it’s taken twice as long going in the opposite direction.

For the bhoys looking for the date for the Helsinki game, remember it’s not officially them yet, the date probably won’t be set until after the second legs of round 2, they can’t issue tickets until then. The Motherwell tie is not an either or, therefore date is already set.
