New Balance for Celtic

860

New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor.  The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.

Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements.  It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.

Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.

Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite.  After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd.  We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.

The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us.  She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

Thanks for your kind words on the blog on Saturday night when you got home. I replied a day later but you were offline.

It was great meeting you in KDS after the game and it was a pleasure introducing you to my family and friends. It was a long day but knowing how much you expend in money, time and effort following Celtic, I can’t complain.

You are an example to us all.

Enjoy Vegas. I was there for a weekend when I was living in Seattle. I hated it, but don’t let that put you off. You’ll either love it or hate it.

I’m probably taking H into town to meet a friend. If time permits I’ll pop in to bid our friend do widzenia.

  4. Oh Tom I missed the bit about victimhood (incidentally I am always suspicious about those who use the word fact with capital letters. Tsk tsk).

Ah it’s often the way isn’t it. Honest we are not racist it’s just cos you are too sensitive. Next thing you will be saying that I bring it on myself. Blame the victims eh. Classic racist excuse.

    Bless

Gillian famously told me at the BEN charity dinner in February 2012 that it was all fine and that there was a plan in place. King and the ‘high net worth Rangers men’ had it covered.

Tick tick tick. 3 years later ……… Hey presto. Ha ha ha.

If we needed a wee reminder of the fact that our progress isn’t linear, then i’m glad it occurred on Wed’s night and not this weekend in the cup.

It was difficult, in my opinion, for Ronny, he is trying to give some guys a rest, but in doing so had to alter the shape of the team.

Hopefully all the guys who are eligable to play are fit and up for the challenge of the next 3 games. Looking forward to them starting tomorrow.

Got my cup final ticket today, also Tony is sending out the CQN11 tickets , so really looking forward to next weekend as well.

I love being a Celtic supporter.

No offence to John but he is not high net worth so can only be there as a proxy for someone else so I am adding two and two and making 4 possibly.

However, I don’t see yer man sinking anything like £5m into Rangers let alone £10M or £20M or whatever and he does not like losing money — boy does he not like losing money!

If I were to guess, the only way forward here is to liquidate the existing company.

Completely bin it and start again.

Screw the current creditors and shareholders, bin the current contracts and try and do a prepack with a new private limited company that remains private until the team is definitely back in the SPFL and established as the number two cluib and then …. and only then …… make a call to arms and offer a public shareholding for a big whack of dough where those involved at the outset get their money back.

In the interim someone will come in and run the bars, add on the discount, bank the cash and wear a blazer etc. and possibly even front up the board.

Remember Rowan and Martin’s laugh in?

Tell me, why do I need to look in a mirror? Are you accusing me of racism?

Not sure how you equate that to me accusing you of racism, but there you go.

And please spare me you nonsense around use of terms such as soup taking and back of the bus. I campaigned like many against apartheid in South Africa and against racism in all its guises. I know my references and I feel perfectly free to use them. I use them because they are apt.

Then you of all people should know better.

Your nationalist fervour is clouding your ability to see.

Nationalist fervour? That is an astonishing leap of faith. My defence of Scotland against a charge of being “institutionally racist” is based on my experience of being born and raised here. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “nationalist fervour”.

Of course racism is a problem elsewhere. Where did I say it wasn’t? Scotland is institutionally racist and it’s focus is anti Catholicism or anti irish. It’s a peculiarity caused during the famine years and beyond but one that scotland does not want to admit or address.

Despite the fact that the Church of Scotland has recently apologized for the treatment of Irish immigrants in Scotland in the years during and after the famine? The Scottish Parliament has also addressed the issue in recent years.

Quite apart from the OB act, quite apart from Rangers version of apartheid being practiced after the soypth African version ended, quite apart from those of us who have witnessed it in workplaces and across scotland, we now have active discussions about the tricolour or the irish national anthem being sectarian. That irish republicanism is somehow sectarian. That blessing oneself in the wrong manner can be a crime.

I disagree with the OBA. It is ill-advised and badly construed but I strongly disagree with it being held up as proof of Scotland being “institutionally racist”. The stuff about the Irish Tricolour and the Soldiers Song was raised by racist and sectarian Rangers fans on a radio phone-in. Again, is that it? That is your proof?

You are in denial Tom. You are pretending to yourself that it’s not happening despite the ongoing events all around you.

No. I am simply disagreeing with you. I realize in your head that is an impossible concept, but that is your problem, not mine.

You love scotland? Good for you. But for you to love scotland so much that you lie to yourself? Now that’s something else.

Where did I say I love Scotland? I like most facets of Scottish life and society. I dislike others. I no more love Scotland than I love Whisky and Indian food.

Perhaps your time in Oz has softened you up. Don’t worry you will soon learn. The hard way.

Again, what on earth has that got to do with anything? But since you have brought it up, let me say that if there is one “western” country that is institutionally racist, it is Australia.

Once again you betray your arrogance and your sense of infallibility with your patronizing use of the words “you will learn”.

You are just one of those people who desperately need a cause to celebrate your victimhood. It’s boring. One day you will grow up.

It would make sense to re-appoint Mike Ashleys men on to the the Rangers board 1) keep your enemies close to you and you have a better chance of knowing what they are up to. 2) build bridges with a genuine money man who can help your cause 3) They know the football industry well. So to me it would make sense. H.H.

PFayr. I agree with you 100% that Doncaster was clearing the way for a new new Rangers since the start of this fiasco a blind eye has been turned to the rules. I fear for the future of Scottish football as I cannot see football fans being prepared to continue to pay hard earned money to follow a corrupt game. H.H.
