New Balance for Celtic

860

New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor.  The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.

Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements.  It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.

Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.

Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite.  After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd.  We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.

The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us.  She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

  1. I note that Jason Denayer has effectively served notice that he will be going back to Man City in the summer to fight for his place.

Now, young Jason is a good prospect but putting aside the fact the Man City have at least 3 proven internationals ahead of him in the pecking order, I noticed today that they also have a young centre back called Karim Rekik, who, like JD has been out on loan this year.

He has played 42 games for PSV on loan and also been capped by Holland.

I’m guessing both him and JD will not be included in the Man City squad of 25.

Furthermore, they have a boy who will be 19 in the summer called Mathias Bossaerts who, again, is a centre back. He is Belgian and has a good pedigree.

Given our relationship with Man City – via the Lawwell family and Ronny – i’d think we would have a chance of getting one of the 3 on loan next year.

I know not everyone agrees with loans but more and more clubs with budgets larger than ours use the loan system.

  2. Tom,

You deny that Scotland is institutionally sectarian.

    Ok here goes.

Scottish Parliament. Recently passed the OB act. Admitted it was to equalise against celtic fans via ensuring anything erm political would be deemed as offensive. Includes singing irish songs and of course blessing yourself incorrectly. Add to that the position of the SNP and their cabinet, an unwillingness to tackle OO walks and presiding over sectarian attacks on catholics being 6 times more likely than anyone else before ahem losing the statistics etc etc.

Judiciary and the legal system. Quite apart from being riddled with masonry (big nans favourite) then we have instances such as the bizarre NL decision in Edinburgh. There are many more examples to quote but I am sure you get the point.

Police. Well what have we here. A concerted attempt to criminalise the GB, including kettling etc. lower levels of catholics working in the police force than in the population. Ok with loads of Orange walks. Less so when a small group wants to walk to celtic park. Bizarrely always missing from hotspot attack areas against celtic supporters I.e. Bridgeton (despite previous tragedies). Filming the GB is clearly a higher priority.

Military. Ah those celebration days at Ibrox. Nuff said.

Media. Oh where to begin and end. Do I need to say more. From traynors the famine is over is just a bit of fun or Clyde going along with the tricolour etc being sectarian. To never tackling the hun on not signing a catholic (oh that could go in any of these colums here military apart) , denying it was a sectarian policy, then immediately praising them for ending it.

SFA etc Jim Farry incident and all the hun scandal. Need I say more.

Employment practices. I don’t know a single catholic who hasn’t got tales around racist employment practices whether to get in a job or once you have got one.

Education. Constant attacks on the Catholic schooling arrangements as the cause of sectarianism despite the fact they are there because of the racism.

Any other aspects of life in Scotland to cover??

  3. Neganon – I work in recruitment and never come across sectarianism with employers. Do you live in the 1950s?

  4. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned yet but Rose Byrne comes from OZ.

  5. Neganon you missed the fact that RCs are twice as likely to do prison time than their peers of Protestant or no religion.

Government won’t touch it wi a barge pole.

  6. chavez, Some Fife council Middle managers file application forms where applicants schools have Saint prefix in the round filing cabinet.

workplace practices mirror society and while RC’s need not apply notices won’t be seen the

sentiment that voted 33% for anti-RC political parties in the 1930s is still present to a degree

  7. You have got to hand it to him. He knows his audience.

According to DK he wishes to return THEM to the ethos THEY were brought up with.

Born as he was in 1955, just exactly what was that ethos?

  8. northbhoy ... \o/ on

I did chortle to myself when His Glibness spoke of his wish to return to the old times when the Clumpany held dear his mores and principles, WHAT,! a return to the divisions of old, their religious sectarianism, a football club that only employs those people from their own ethnicity.

Besides the problems they face in terms of reinvention, in refurbishment then they have a long way to go to be redeemed. Poor effort from King and company when presented with a golden opportunity to start afresh and bring a fresh face to sport on Scotland.

Scotland’s Shame …….. a man out of Castlemilk to the aparthied in South Africa and back to Govan to reclaim his wish to go back to the way things were !!!
