New Balance for Celtic

860

New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor.  The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.

Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements.  It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.

Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.

Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite.  After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd.  We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.

The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us.  She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

  1. World peace I’m sorry that was a silly post. Appearances have nothing to do with anything.

Furthermore your point about celtic being shot at cow we are the biggest club? Nonsense. Even when we weren’t the biggest club the same happenned.

Celtic is the focal point for the racist views of scottish society. And this latest nonsense is just another part of that.

Loved WGS as Celtic manager. I was sold on his love for Celtic the moment I seen a picture of him wearing hoops in america years before he came to us. He is a bampot tim just like the rest of us.

  4. 67 heaven do you know what it would be a start for scotland to deal with its racism if they decide to use it even futrther than they have. The OB act is simply the start.

Still you persist with this “Scotland is an institutionally racism (sic) anti catholic and anti irish (sic) country.”

That is nothing more than your opinion, based on your own sense of victimhood. Stop claiming it as FACT.

Of course there are racists and sectarian bigots in Scotland, just as there are in every nation on earth.

In Scotland, there are Celtic supporters who are racists and sectarian bigots. There are Catholics who are racists and sectarian bigots. There are Pakistanis who are racists and sectarian bigots.

The above is also true of England, Wales and Ireland.

It is not the sole domain of Scotland and certainly not the Scottish establishment. If Scotland was institutionally racist and sectarian, how have so many Catholics of Irish descent achieved so many positions of power and influence in both business and politics compared to the situation in the middle of the 20th century and before?

You and your ilk are ever keen to fall back on terms like “soup-takers” and “back of the bus” at every opportunity. It is quite insulting to the memory of the struggles faced by Irish immigrants in Scotland a hundred years ago and the African-Americans throughout the 20th century that you so glibly compare their plight to that of Catholics and Irish in 21st century Scotland with the use of such crass soundbites.

I detest it when people on here use these terms so frequently as all it does is demean and devalue their real meaning in their proper context.

I would never compare having to beg for soup to feed my starving children with a fat oaf wrapped in a union jack calling me a Fenian Bastard. Why do you . . . every day?

You really need to look in the mirror my friend.

I also moved seats this season to get away from a constant moaner. This one guy was about 4 seats away from me in the same row, constantly giving it to Izzy. I moved 3 rows back and across the aisle from where I originally sat.

1st game of the season and who sits right in front of me but this clown, couldn’t believe it, just call me lucky ! So he starts right away with his moaning and turns round expecting us to agree with him, felt like belting him but managed to ignore him for most of the game until Izzy sclaffs a cross and he turns round again, got a wee bit heated but he got the message and doesn’t bother with me anymore. If Izzy isn’t playing Joe Hansen is his next target along with James Forrest who he gave pelters to on Wednesday, no idea where I’ll be sitting next season…

  21. My friends in Celtic,

I agree that kick off times are an issue with our home attendances. However Imo ” safe standing” is a retrograde step which will do nothing for atmosphere or attendance.

We have an iconic arena which is acknowledged as possibly the most atmospheric in Europe when the opposition and competition grabs our people’s imagination. Why change this?

    —————————————————————-

We need to change it for two reason.

Firstly, it would allow the club to reduce ticket prices in the safe standing areas which would stem and hopefully reverse the current steady decline in crowds and attact back more of the traditional working class many of whom have abandoned the game because they can’t afford it.

Secondly, I hate sitting in uncomfortable plastic bucket seats when the rain/snow is pashing down and the ice cold concrete permeates through the soles of my sturdy shoes and thick winter socks and quickly works its way up to my neck and beyond. Watching football in the winter in Scotland in the non-heated seats is damned unpleasant. Standing is not that great but I personally find it more bearable than sitting in the freezing cold. At least standing spectators (even in a safe terracing environment) can huddle together to protect themselves against the worst elements – something we have learned from penguins no doubt.

For these reasons, I would gladly convert some seated areas to safe terracing and if we can attract back some of the old Jungle types then it would improve the atmosphere.

  22. Starry

Probably the club should have opposed safe standing, that would have ensured it’s acceptance :-)

  26. Tom,

Tell me, why do I need to look in a mirror? Are you accusing me of racism? And please spare me you nonsense around use of terms such as soup taking and back of the bus. I campaigned like many against apartheid in South Africa and against racism in all its guises. I know my references and I feel perfectly free to use them. I use them because they are apt.

Your nationalist fervour is clouding your ability to see.

Of course racism is a problem elsewhere. Where did I say it wasn’t? Scotland is institutionally racist and it’s focus is anti Catholicism or anti irish. It’s a peculiarity caused during the famine years and beyond but one that scotland does not want to admit or address. Quite apart from the OB act, quite apart from Rangers version of apartheid being practiced after the soypth African version ended, quite apart from those of us who have witnessed it in workplaces and across scotland, we now have active discussions about the tricolour or the irish national anthem being sectarian. That irish republicanism is somehow sectarian. That blessing oneself in the wrong manner can be a crime.

You are in denial Tom. You are pretending to yourself that it’s not happening despite the ongoing events all around you.

You love scotland? Good for you. But for you to love scotland so much that you lie to yourself? Now that’s something else.

Perhaps your time in Oz has softened you up. Don’t worry you will soon learn. The hard way.
