New, social, CQN, Elvis is dead!

1157

And we’re back!  What a two days of systems nightmare.  We went down at 7pm on Thursday.  No conclusive information on why, we have had traffic volume related outages before, but this was on a more serious and persistent basis. We had to move the database to a new location and restore from backup to recover, we lost a few days articles. Better not speak to me about Fasthosts for a while.

We got access to the databases this morning and took the opportunity to upgrade facilities in the background.  We’re on a new incarnation of WordPress and now have Facebook and Twitter integration.  Good news is you can link your Celtic Quick News account with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and share information from CQN to your social network timeline.

To do so:
Login to Celtic Quick News.
Cick on your name at the top of the Comments box to access your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to access the Facebook and Twitter links.
Update your profile.

You will then see a Share link beside your comments.

Should we be Celtic Slow News for today?  Here it is:

Rennes 1-1 Celtic.
Hugely important second half performance and Joe Ledley goal.
Your favourite billionaire is getting divorced and has claimed he has no money!  Oh dear.
One year on, the SFA are still smoking out religiously offensive correspondents!
The Berlin Wall fell and I hear Elvis is dead.

Have a try at the Facebook and Twitter links and let me know what you think of it.  I’m off for a break but will catch up later.

Most importantly, there is a Celtic fan called Andrew who will be walking about Belfast in a daze this weekend.  If you see him, but him a beer.

  1. The Battered Bunnet on

    Auldheid

I spent yesterday at a wedding, with lots of old friends and some new ones. Just as a good wedding ought to be.

I hadn’t seen one of my friends for some time. He is a Rangers supporter from his Mammy’s skirts. Well educated, intelligent, middle aged, successful and steeped in the essence of the club he supports, or at least the club he believes he supports.

He is still in denial about what might happen. “Rangers are too big, too important to Scottish Society. We’ll lose the tax case but we’ll go on. There will be a Rangers football club playing in blue shirts at Ibrox Stadium and I’ll be supporting them.”

He refused to acknowledge the disingenuousness and legere de main of their recent Governors. He refused to accept the possibility of anything beyond a short term legal inconvenience. He did though spit teeth at Murray and his pals, and suggested one or two former Directors would be well advised to catch the next stage coach out of town for their own good. He knows how these guys behave.

He reinforced in my mind the need for Newco Rangers to start all over at the bottom. The arrogance in the DNA of Rangers needs to be destroyed. Let a football club emerge from these ashes that recaptures the sporting ethic. Elysian Fields and all. Humility is the antidote to so much of the bollox that has brought Rangers to this point.

It’s up to Scottish Football, and moreover Scottish Society to dissolve the old mentality. Here is the challenge.

  2. I wonder what Traynor, Paterson, Dodds and Young will be doing now for the BBC as they were all versions of cheerleaders for the team on the southside that has banned them

  3. Paul67 and Andrew, well done.

Sitting here with Shaun’s shades on, smokin’ an e-light.

Delighted the site is back up.

Rancho Franco – keep them comin.

  4. Zbyszek,

How are you my friend ? how is the reading coming along? are you still enjoying?

    Questions, questions questions.

I hope you and yours are all well,

Must have missed it Paul. Nevertheless, I’ll keep my eyes peeled :¬)

    Off out. Enjoy yourselves all.

Hi. It would be good to have a discussion sometime about these things. I’m just wary of posting too much about them on here as I don’t think it’s the right place to do so. Maybe late at night would be different.

In the past I’ve been guilty of posting provocative stuff to get a rise out of people. I apologise for that.

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the Bhoys.

  7. Martin42

I’m on 400 page now. If I remember correctly I have still about 130 pages to read. How I can not enjoy that work, Sir? Give me one more week, plese.

The most difficult part of the work I found after page 300. That was about economics and I could not understand it. Everything was right but not right. I hope you know what I mean.

    Beatutiful work.

  8. The Battered Bunnet

Let a football club emerge from these ashes that recaptures the sporting ethic.

I was under the impression that in order to recapture something, you have to have had it in the first place.

  9. Zbyzek.

Sorry I dont really understand why you would want it deleted, but that’s up to you.

I’m in no way having a go at you and haven’t thought you rude.

I said I thought we have opposing views. That doesn’t stop me from respecting you and yours.

    All the best.

  10. Partizan

I remember reading some of your posts and I disagreed with them with every ounce of my being. I didn’t get involved because others took up the baton before me. Regardless of what I think of some posts, I won’t jump on a bandwagon so that an individual would feel victimized or bullied.

I didn’t think your posts were deliberately contentious or designed to antagonise anyone. I just thought they were wrang :)))

  11. Having reached the conclusion that life is too short to read back through the blog – can anyone tell me what the result of Administration is likely to be for the LONG TERM future of Whytes WOnders FC?

And, having watched the documentary the other night, can anyone confirm that Alistair Johnstone used to be in that failed Soap Opera about rich people living as ex pats in some sunny place or other?

Why do wealthy ex pats become so determined to turn themselves in to walking cliches?

  12. Celtic’s James Forrest has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League young player of the month for September.

Well done. A great little player.

  13. Partizan

I want to be one of those butchers, miners, doctors, professors who want Celtic to be great and want to be in a good company. Who I’m behind it does not matter. I don’t like your views, you don’t like mine and that’s the reason this place is different from other places. We (I hope) are still friends in here.

  14. Was in Sharm recently and found that most locals preferred to watch La Liga rather than EPL.

We all know the EPL is overrated and even there they are only really interested in the top four or five teams. They mostly prefer watching Real or Barca.

  15. Harald Flatpack on

When I see these big Rangers financial stories I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand I’m desperate to see them punished for the financial doping that accounted so much for there success and ability to compete with Celtic at a time when we were fiscally prudent.

On the other hand this never seems to affect the football team, if anything it strengthens the resolve.

As long as players continue to be paid and squads stay together this is still about results. I think if Jelavic plays they win tomorrow, so we must forget about the what if and concentrate on the here and now. 3points a must tomorrow.

  16. Hamiltontim

Most of the time I posted on here until the past few months I was drunk. That’s not to admit I was always wrong ;).

I suspect I’m in a bit of a minority on here on many subjects. “But we support the Celtic….”

  17. now back to buisness……

celtic don’t have a captain this has been evident during this and last season

i think Samba [blackburn] would be a great captain fer us……

can anyone else think of a good captain??

  18. James Forrest is Lennon on

Hey lads and it’s good to see CQN back up and running.

First up, thanks for all the birthday messages yesterday friends. Much, much appreciated.

Just catching up with the posts, but Auldheid’s latest ones jump out at me.

Mate, you appear to be talking about “conditions” under which we will help Rangers in the event this all ends the way it increasingly looks like.

Let me tell you right now, I for one am against helping them in any way, for any reason, under any conditions, and there are three reasons why.

1st, It would be Bad Business. To actually lend a hand to your rivals, your biggest competitors, knowing they WILL benefit, face you off and one day might have the chance to put YOU to the wall? Madness.

2nd, If Celtic leverage conditions out of Rangers, you and others can dress it up any way you like as being “for the benefit of the game” or even our own club, but none of it will wash. What we will have engaged in is a carve up, in a charade, in a fraudulent attempt to restructure the Scottish game to help out a team which, by benefit of illegal activity, got itself into trouble. That will damn the Scottish game as corrupt and bent, and run by charalatans and crooks, and it will do that for all time. If such a cut-up, if such a scandal, is being perpetrated we should be firmly and unmistakably on the other side of the fence, opposing it in every way. It would be outrageous to absolve Rangers of the same fate which would await any other club which behaved in this way, let alone give them a pass when clubs who, through no fault of their own, have suffered similar indignity.

If Celtic involves itself in a shameful display of blatant cheating – and rewriting the rulebook cause the rules no longer suit you IS cheating – then shame on them, shame on all who accept it.

3rd, and most importantly … Rangers is not just a business which has broken the rules, a company which has defrauded its way to financial returns and a football club which has cheated its way to trophies, at our expense, I might add … it is an institution wholly at odds with everything we are. They are bigoted, racist, nationalist, imperialist and an evil Scottish society need not, and should not, be forced forever to tolerate. This club will not reform, and so it is fitting that they should die, and if the people who run OUR institution act to keep them alive then they are a disgrace to the name of Celtic and they have sullied everything that has come before them.

It will be the biggest outrage in the history of our club, and I tell you, there will be no way back from it.

  19. TET

    Will Celtic push for reforms?

I think they will given PLs ability to influence the Professional Game group at the SFA and his awareness of both the need to restore integrity as well as the ideas in the article.

As well as an opportunity to reform the game Rangers situation also provides Celtic the chance to pull our support together into a more cohesive and so effective unit to influence our game for the better.

Lets hope the footballing side improves enough to allow the brighter future the opportunity to emerge.

I was happy to see your short article in the last CQN Magazine.

I hope you will continue your work and we will read more from you. You are good writer Martin. You have lot of good things to tell to all especially to those younger.

    An example.

Hwo would guess that you played against Jingy? Please tell us more. I have learned from your work more than I learned from many other works.

  22. Paul67

You are not the only one hacked of with fasthost

I have never understood the fascination with the podium on here. However i did see the live updates for the Rennes game come up with no comments.

So i jumped in predicted a 1-1 , a comedy OG and a stirring fightback with Joe L getting a credit equaliser………honest ( in a craig whyte type of way)

    On Whyte

    Mad….

    Nope

He is way beyond mad…..he looks at mad in the rear view mirror

    Divorce court?

Now there’s yet another reason to keep the cash under wraps

Unless of course the Mrs knows more than you might think.

    Such as…

When Whyte came back to the UK in 2007 he was still under a Director disqualification. His wife was a Director of a newly formed company called Tixway. Could she now say she was acting for her husband. He in fact was a shadow director. Not surprisingly when his disqualification expired she resigned as a director and he joined the board

    Must have been a co-incidence

Unless of course Pauls reference of a billionaire in divorce court referred to someone else altogether .

In which case Whyte will have absolutely nothing to worry about. Its not as if there has ever been a lawyer advising a client in a divorce case to leverage all and any advantage they could

  23. During CQN’s downtime, I watched on youtube a prog about Glasgows underworld, never seen it before.

Know very little about what happened.

Arthur Thompson, Paul Ferris, Tam McGraw

Was there a religious connection, or was it just money and power ?

  24. Alistair Johnstone seemed like quite a reasonable chap on the shortbread expose ——- Until he uttered the words “no surrender”.

His face became contorted and bitter . The mask had slipped and the bigot was exposed.

It will probably be the same with most of their middle class respectable fans .

    now back to buisness……

    Hornblower, Cook, Hook, ……

    Kayal?????

Honestly we need a few players to start being captains.

  26. Re Thursday nights game- I thought we did very well after losing such an embarrassing goal.

Neil got his tactics right when he switched the team around in the 2nd half, dropping Cha back and switching Matthews to LB, he was not required to overlap therefore exposing his poor one-sidedness.

Putting Ledley in the midfield and gave us a wee bit more creativity and of course he chipped in with the goal.

Glenn had an excellent game as did big FF after his faux pas. Victor is growing game by game and he and Beram protected the back line, 4-2-3-1 is the way to go in Europe, even at home.

That’s 2 good EL performances but only 2 points to show from them.

    Really looking forward to tomorrow!
