New, social, CQN, Elvis is dead!

And we’re back!  What a two days of systems nightmare.  We went down at 7pm on Thursday.  No conclusive information on why, we have had traffic volume related outages before, but this was on a more serious and persistent basis. We had to move the database to a new location and restore from backup to recover, we lost a few days articles. Better not speak to me about Fasthosts for a while.

We got access to the databases this morning and took the opportunity to upgrade facilities in the background.  We’re on a new incarnation of WordPress and now have Facebook and Twitter integration.  Good news is you can link your Celtic Quick News account with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and share information from CQN to your social network timeline.

Hugely important second half performance and Joe Ledley goal.
Your favourite billionaire is getting divorced and has claimed he has no money!  Oh dear.

The Berlin Wall fell and I hear Elvis is dead.

Have a try at the Facebook and Twitter links and let me know what you think of it.  I’m off for a break but will catch up later.

Most importantly, there is a Celtic fan called Andrew who will be walking about Belfast in a daze this weekend.  If you see him, but him a beer.

I only have £3000 of shares, miniscule in the big picture I know but I’d bin them in an instant if we even considered helping the muck survive.

My prime objective from the point of offering any aid for ‘them’ would be the removal of the current board. I would not darken the doorstep of the Holy Ground until that was achieved.

great post, although there was a precedent in the Bundeslega about 10 years ago when Bayern Munich donated money to Borrussia Dortmund when the Dortmund club came close to collapse.

That said, we have a different type of rivalry in our great wee country. If we participated in any machinations to create a new SPL with a reborn Hun in the league ,we would be as bad as them. Forgetting our moral compass to make a few quid and cheating the founding fathers of our club. I even hear people talking about the “nightmare” scenario if Sky did not want us, well I CGAF about Sky,we are bigger , better and made of sterner stuff than Murdochs cash cow.

Would The Orcs help us? we know the answer.

Alistair Johnston using the phrase ‘no surrender’ was mere banter – wasn’t it?

We’ve had Rangers Directors, and Managers who sang it, never mind slipped up in conversation.

I’d imagine you are right about Rangers ‘middle class’.

It has been stated often that 4.4.2 is old hat. That one striker should be the norm with appropriate support from midfield.

Chance, oportunity, just a couple of words you used, you don’t sound very convinced !!

We as a club, have them where we want them.

What happens next should be a no brainer, we should demand reforms, and demand them on our terms, but I doubt we will.

As I said earlier, the club need to think long and hard on this issue, they could well spell the end if they choose the wrong path.

  12. The last time CQN was down I discovered a strange woman living in my house, claims she is my wife but it was never announced on here so it couldn’t have happened, along with a child and dog. Site goes down for 2 days and guess what she is still flippin here!

We are on the march again.A good win 2mara,and any sort of victory on Wednesday night would be excellent.

Really looking forward to the Hibs game i am.It is vital that we get right result – then we would be only 2 victories away from lifting the first trophy of the season – not only will that be great for morale, but it will be another piece of silverware for our leader.

I cannot stress enough, how important it is for us to lift the League Cup.

  17. Recently posted my thoughts after watching Norwich City a few times (I live in Sweden, you take what you get on tv) without seeming to provoke any response. Have just watched them against Liverpool and had my views confirmed.

A very good team with lots of self-belief, discipline and confidence. They know what they can do and do it well. They don’t try to do that which is beyond them.

Discipline, belief, effort and a team ethos. When Liverpool’s “stars” stood still and held up their hands in indignation the Norwich journeymen ran back to position and got on with the game.

Still without a single player I would want to see in a Celtic shirt, but with a team effort which I admire and, currently, envy.

Surely time for us to pick a team which obviously does not consist of our best individuals, but rather those who work best together, as a team.

GK? – take your pick, I don’t see a lot of difference between our current choices

Back four – Adam Matthews + Charlie and Emilio, when fit. Make the best of the rest or, preferably, promote a youngster. They seem to be very competent and don’t have a clue that they are “too young”! Still contributing to a team as opposed to a collection of the “best” individual players.

Midfield – Ledley and Wanyami – totally reliable and real team players plus a fair bit of skill and muscle.

Up front – Stokes (who doesn’t seem to have NL’s complete confidence). He scores goals, he continues to develop as a team player and wants to be here.

Fill the gaps with our youngsters and see how James Forrest is not the only product from youth development.

Many on here talk about individuals like Henke, Lubo, Chris S, John H etc, but they would be the first to point that they were very successful because they were part of a well-knitted team. They shared the same team ethic and that’s what I miss now. Don’t care what they say in public – do your talking on the pitch! We don’t see much of that, do we?

    Cheers

    Alex

  18. EDB

I am happy with 4:5:1 in certain circumstances, one of them being when Commons is available.

My main reasons for 4:4:2 tomorrow are:-

1 )You need scoring midfielders to make 4:5:1 work. Wanyama & Kayal are unlikely scorers and Ki & Ledley are not too prolific so we need Commons & Forrest available.

    2) We are at home to Aberdeen and they should not be our strongest opponents. I would like to see a first half whirlwind as we may run out of steam towards the end and it would be best, if Aberdeen were well beaten by then.

    3) Bangura needs a goal badly to kick start his Celtic career. If he is not scoring bring on, McCourt or Watt to replace him

  19. The Jury's Out on

    Topic One: CQN

Well done Paul for getting us all back to normailty. We’ve all become rather dependent on our CQN.

    Topic Two: Rennes game.

For most of the game we couldn’t pass the salt let alone the ball. Even questioned their fitness. I blame Fraser Munster for the goal. He didn’t even try to recover it. Just did the big drama bit. His other saves don’t make up for that.

Cha wasn’t grinning. He’s Korean. It’s a facial expression. End of.

    Topic Three: Huns Documentary

Not quite clear where the £18M came from to buy the huns ( if it ever did exist ) but enough evidence to show Whyte’s the man for the job. The job of taking them into admin. He knows it. We all know it.

When I see these big Rangers financial stories I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand I’m desperate to see them punished for the financial doping that accounted so much for there success and ability to compete with Celtic at a time when we were fiscally prudent.

On the other hand this never seems to affect the football team, if anything it strengthens the resolve.

As long as players continue to be paid and squads stay together this is still about results. I think if Jelavic plays they win tomorrow, so we must forget about the what if and concentrate on the here and now. 3points a must tomorrow.

Hey lads and it’s good to see CQN back up and running.

First up, thanks for all the birthday messages yesterday friends. Much, much appreciated.

Just catching up with the posts, but Auldheid’s latest ones jump out at me.

Mate, you appear to be talking about “conditions” under which we will help Rangers in the event this all ends the way it increasingly looks like.

Let me tell you right now, I for one am against helping them in any way, for any reason, under any conditions, and there are three reasons why.

1st, It would be Bad Business. To actually lend a hand to your rivals, your biggest competitors, knowing they WILL benefit, face you off and one day might have the chance to put YOU to the wall? Madness.

2nd, If Celtic leverage conditions out of Rangers, you and others can dress it up any way you like as being “for the benefit of the game” or even our own club, but none of it will wash. What we will have engaged in is a carve up, in a charade, in a fraudulent attempt to restructure the Scottish game to help out a team which, by benefit of illegal activity, got itself into trouble. That will damn the Scottish game as corrupt and bent, and run by charalatans and crooks, and it will do that for all time. If such a cut-up, if such a scandal, is being perpetrated we should be firmly and unmistakably on the other side of the fence, opposing it in every way. It would be outrageous to absolve Rangers of the same fate which would await any other club which behaved in this way, let alone give them a pass when clubs who, through no fault of their own, have suffered similar indignity.

If Celtic involves itself in a shameful display of blatant cheating – and rewriting the rulebook cause the rules no longer suit you IS cheating – then shame on them, shame on all who accept it.

3rd, and most importantly … Rangers is not just a business which has broken the rules, a company which has defrauded its way to financial returns and a football club which has cheated its way to trophies, at our expense, I might add … it is an institution wholly at odds with everything we are. They are bigoted, racist, nationalist, imperialist and an evil Scottish society need not, and should not, be forced forever to tolerate. This club will not reform, and so it is fitting that they should die, and if the people who run OUR institution act to keep them alive then they are a disgrace to the name of Celtic and they have sullied everything that has come before them.

It will be the biggest outrage in the history of our club, and I tell you, there will be no way back from it.

    Will Celtic push for reforms?

I think they will given PLs ability to influence the Professional Game group at the SFA and his awareness of both the need to restore integrity as well as the ideas in the article.

As well as an opportunity to reform the game Rangers situation also provides Celtic the chance to pull our support together into a more cohesive and so effective unit to influence our game for the better.

Lets hope the footballing side improves enough to allow the brighter future the opportunity to emerge.

Not surprisingly when his disqualification expired she resigned as a director and he joined the board

Neil got his tactics right when he switched the team around in the 2nd half, dropping Cha back and switching Matthews to LB, he was not required to overlap therefore exposing his poor one-sidedness.

Putting Ledley in the midfield and gave us a wee bit more creativity and of course he chipped in with the goal.

Glenn had an excellent game as did big FF after his faux pas. Victor is growing game by game and he and Beram protected the back line, 4-2-3-1 is the way to go in Europe, even at home.

That’s 2 good EL performances but only 2 points to show from them.

    Really looking forward to tomorrow!

“It is an institution wholly at odds with everything we are. They are bigoted, racist, nationalist, imperialist and an evil Scottish society need not, and should not, be forced forever to tolerate. This club will not reform, and so it is fitting that they should die, and if the people who run OUR institution act to keep them alive then they are a disgrace to the name of Celtic and they have sullied everything that has come before them.”

Still to be convinced by Beram Kayal but have no reservations about Fraser Foster. I know he took the blame but I think Cha (who I do rate) was more culpable.

That said I would still like to see Ola and Flavia in the side.

The mere suggestion that we should assist the huns in any way is an affront to everything that we and our club stand for. We should rather do everything in our power to assist in and accelerate their demise.
