Newco confident, with some reason, but Brendan has the aces

691

“Feeling more confident than any time in the last five years” was the sentiment expressed to me by a Newco fan this morning. And with some reason. They have gone two months without defeat, while Celtic’s blistering runs of successive wins stopped; we’ve won three and drawn three of our last six.

Reasons for any marked change in results are usually varied. With the league won, Celtic rested players, while others were injured. Opponents have also paid attention to their Scott Sinclair Problem. Stop Scott getting the ball and you inhibit Celtic’s most potent danger.

You also have to factor in the reality that Brendan Rodgers has given 52 competitive pre-match team talks. There are only so many times you can vocabularise your rallying call before its effects diminish.

The contrast in the other Hampden dressing room will be stark. Brother Pedro’s accent will still appear fresh to his players, never mind his message. His tactical talks and implorations of effort will seem innovative, whether they are or not. For these reasons, and more, Newco players will fear nothing on Sunday.

This game will be more straightforward that Ross County last week. We know Newco are there to win, to knock us out of the cup, stop our Invincibility Quest and reach their second major cup final. We’ll not face 10 men behind the ball.

Having said all of this, you and me will both be stunned if Celtic don’t prevail. We have the better players, the better manager, we’ve faced many and varied challenges this season and come through impressively.

Dembele, Griffiths and Rogic are back and available. The manager has choices on who to play, and options to change the game, or freshen things up later.

That same Newco fan this morning accused me of selective memory, with good reason, when I said I couldn’t remember Ugo Ehiogu playing for Rangers. It was no less alarming to hear a fit and active man of 44 died so suddenly. Condolences to his loved ones. There but……….

Dallas sent me an email today with a great analogy about the cheats and their “history” I can’t post it but will use it on Sunday when in company with Celtic fans that have forgotten more about Celtic than I will ever know :-)

  4. Kennedy’s in Drumcondra will be main venue for Tims to watch Sunday’s match v Soft Loans Co. in Dublin.

The analogy I referred to, you probably read, there was nothing bad but I didn’t want to steal it as my own patter…….

  7. Gerry, yep i saw that.

On another matter…cane home to a letter stating that Yoker Credit Union had went bust – my son has savings with them and another one – and that we had to take letter to a PO to make a claim to get money back.

    Was raging.

Turns out that he only has a £10 in the Yoker wan and the large amount in the other CU. I just got them mixed up.

Funny thing is, the £10 was a gift from Glasgow CC to encourage kids to save. Thousands of schoolkids got one.

    Something fishy going on.

  16. Another appeal. I am in Malaga for the weekend and need somewhere for the 3 tims in the family group to watch the game. Don’t really want to trek down to Benalmadena as it’s the day of my wife’s 60th and she’s really being quite understanding about our need to watch the game under the circumstances…

Remember from the last Sevco game that someone recommended an Irish pub in Malaga city as a possible. How did that go and where was it / what was it called? If anyone can help, we’d all be very grateful, including the birthday girl as my laptop in the digs is the nuclear option.

Hahaha ……..Sally Magnusson(BBC Scotland) must think that if they show clips of rangers scoring against us it will help them win the semi.

I lost count of the huns goals they showed and then to give some balance they showed ……NO footage of Celtic scoring against them! Hehe

I dont care.I still fancy Sally.

Just back from Timmys in Torreblanca. Watched cup final on an iPad as there was a TV malfunction.

Young Hoops were excellent until they scored. Allowed the young bigots back into it then.

2-1 flatters the wee Huns but well deserved victory for the Bhoys

Big shout out to Kevin, owner of Timmys. If you are in the Malaga area he will look after you for all Celtic games. 200 yards from Torreblanca Renfe (train) station, near Fuengirola

A treble has never been my dream, especially under Neil when Morton knocked us out of the league cup on penalties after their keeper having the game if his life and some Aussie dud got a start Tom Rogic, I think his name was, slaughtered by some fans, We could still make the CL knockout stages the following midweek, anyhow, the Scottish Cup is different 1980 my first (old firm game) 1985 McGarvey/Provan, when even with tickets we all rushed the Celtic end but didn’t realise the turnstyles were moved to the top of the stairs, how nobody was hurt I will never know, 1988 centenary season = MacAvennie/McGhee …….that’s my Celtic !!!!! And finally in my wee trip back 1989… Joe, Joe super Joe…….. Even when we were never the best our memories are ours
