Newco spend a penny then PR turns on Celtic fans

993

You may have read a story released by Newco’s PR agent to their go-to Glove Puppet in the media about a dispute over payment for damages to Celtic Park when Newco fans made their first visit to the stadium.

I heard before the Hogmanay game that Newco would be paying the damages their fans did on that occasion, and that Celtic would pay for any damage caused by our fans Ibrox that week. What I didn’t know at the time was that Celtic unilaterally decided this would be the case.

Concerned there may be reprisals following the vandalism to Celtic Park, the club informed Newco they would let it be known that we would pay for any damage to Ibrox by visiting fans – as long as we could inspect the damage we would be charged for.

The Hogmanay match passed without incident; tea light candles were left in visiting toilets to diffuse washroom odours, Celtic were not taken up on their offer to inspect and pay for damage, none was reported to match observers, police or Celtic.

Celtic had earlier issued Newco with a request for payment for the vandalism their fans inflicted on our stadium. Payment was not received, so this week we withheld the same amount from ticket money due to Newco.

The issue is finished; no one is withholding money from Celtic. There is no story.

We’ve not had to deal with nonsense like this for four years and we’d gladly never deal with it again. The issue was placed in the media today by PR, alluding to damages Celtic offered to pay for, but which didn’t happen. Be clear on this – Celtic offered to pay for any damages but no damage was reported.  The PR stunt is a deliberate attempt to damage the good reputation of Celtic fans.  Is it any wonder print media sales are dropping off at such an alarming rate for some?

Let’s remember, this is the same PR used by SPFL sponsor, Ladbrokes, an unacceptable action by a representative of the league’s sponsor.  It’s as though some are too angry to stomach the great news that Celtic have secured the £2.8m signing of Ivorian Kouassi Eboue without lashing out.

The club are delighted to have secured Kouassi. Despite his age, he’s first team ready, and has the character and ability to go a long way in the game. Between now and our cup finals in August, he’ll settle into Scotland and into a championship winning team.

My goodness, what a last 18 hours that was!!

As things stand we have 119 potential entries. I say potential as 2 of you (you know who you are!!) just sent a blank email yesterday with nothing other than an email address. I got back to you to ask your name, etc and sent the rules and fixtures but no reply. Still time of course but surely there wan’t any mischief involved here just to cause us more work? Prove me wrong and restore my faith in human nature!

Anyway, now that I have that off my chest, ther’s still a hanful of entries to come in. But as I don’t see any disadvantage to those who have already picked I can now exclusively reveal where the choices have gone – the fixtures below sho how many flk have chosen each team. In addition there have been 8 jokers played but there’ll be more on that once we work out how we are going o anounce the weekly league tables!

Good luck with tis weeks choices and come on you Falkirk (We Are The Steeple!)

    And breathe………….

  2. not long before football recommences again, signing a quality young player, hopefully seeing common, efa boyata and co moving on, thanks ghuys all the best, lived my dream.

Continued upgrades to celtic park envois i.e. digital screen at clover, boundary wall at away end, upgraded speaker system, hats off, very much needed

In my dreams I hope for the pedestrian area being complete around the stadium for the superstore, museum, café and hotel, but by the looks of things those are far of in the future

Nevertheless there is a fairly, in celtic terms, large amount of money coming our way from C/L participation would like to see a couple of things happen for benefit of fans which would be nice.

the 1 mile parking restriction is a bit of a worry as public transport around there is simply awful. I would like to see celtic be proactive firstly by challenging the proposal. However, regardless I would like to see celtic upgrade barrowlands training ground and convert the 1 1/2 pitch immediately of London road into a 400 space car park, keep the pitches further down (think space for about 4). constructed a 1000 capacity stand (along the length of the pitch directly behind the car park). Use that pitch for reserve/ under 21/ 19 games, first team open training sessions etc…

    Charge £4.00p parking on match day x £4.00p x 400 cars = £1600.00p x 25 games = £40,000.00p

Charge £4.00p adult £2.00 concessions for admission for cult, reserve games with small but decent facilities (likely to get more supports if games in Central Glasgow)

Added benefit no need to hiring out other clubs stadiums (Greenock Morton ground at present) to play reserve games so there is a cost saving in hiring and transport etc…

All money generated could be use for upkeep of barrowlands training centre

don’t imagine the initial out lay (cost) would be particularly prohibitive and it would add real benefits to the club in a whole manner of ways

we retain what was the birthplace of the lions and commemorate as such, adding another place to visit on these interested in the celtic story/ journey

I can live in hope HH

Wouldn’t want to push the envelope about what is permitted comment on the matter, but I wonder how much say in things Minty had at that stage. I suspect the Bank would have been calling the shots.

Cowiebhoy 12:11 – myself and my missus are booked on the 09:00 Liverpool to Lison on the 24th – is that the same flight you’re talking about?

  5. forgot to add if we have 4 pitches, lets give one back to the local community with min to no charge for boys clubs to use given the demographic of the area which will invest them in it and would fit with the ethos of the clubs funding fathers

Great posts. This is the sort of initiatives that we must look at. Enhance the match day experience and nearby facilities.

I would also look at the feasibility of some form of Dedicated transport from the city centre, and or the three closest Railway Stations.

    HH.

  8. Just as a reminder (and this is not speculation so I think clear to be posted) the £24m from Ticketus would have included VAT of £4m – it was for advanced VATable (ticket) income. So that’s net £20m income ex VAT. They owed the bank around that AND CLEARED IT. Whyte DID NOT take £24m Ticketus money and trouser it. Other than some silly media spin no one in the case will be even remotely arguing that he did. He payed off Oldco debt with advanced income. Overly prudent rather than reckless if you ask me!!

So the £4m doesn’t appear to have been paid to HMRC, nor was the PAYE on salaries and that triggered the admin. Poor guy was under a lot of pressure.

When the faecal splatter was fresh on the walls of Edmiston Drive from the HMRC industrial blowers being turned on it was clear the quantum of debt that was insurmountable could not possibly be pinned on C. Thomas Whyte.

Every now and again this is worth recalling, the real story truly has been butchered.

  9. STEPHBHOY on 14TH JANUARY 2017 1:16 PM

I remember speaking to one of the ground staff at Barrowfield. He said they couldn’t wait to move away. Among other things, they were fed up of the local weans lighting bonfires on the pitches.

I believe technically it is iilegal to buy a company with its own future revenues … The whole Bally lot of them knew what was going on – SDM , Lloyds , Ticketus – still it gave us the gift that is Craigy so we can’t be too critical

    HH

  11. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Earnie/Kev

Let’s stop and think about this.

Rangers/Murray owe bank via loss making business.

No buyer can be found for said loss making business – none at all.

Bank restricting said business in terms of expenditure and take every possible step to reduce exposure.

Murray restricted (partially) in terms of what he can do without bank say so. He can’t remortgage, he can’t create new debt. He is under pressure.

Murray finds Whyte and offers sale on proviso that MURRAY gets out of bank debt as well as Rangers.

Bank all for that but have only limited say so in how that is achieved and only WANT ltd knowledge.

Murray/Whyte find way to exit bank contemporaneously with sale by, as Kevin says, hawking seat sales in advance.

Advance made on the proviso that proceeds of seat sale are used to clear LLoyds and Lloyds debt assigned to Ticketus.

Ticketus now stand precisely where Lloyds stood, Whyte stands precisely where Murray/MIH stood.

Whyte hopes to repay ticketus over period and in the interim find new cashflow/investment.

Ally used to sell season tickets but fecks up Europe.

Income less than “projected” by business plan.

Existing tax problems not solved, new ones appear.

    Insolvency forced.

Washing of hands, gnashing of teeth, skewering of the truth begins.

HMRC quote cause of collapse as “Historical, prolonged and deliberate” non payment of tax and the mucking about of Hector.

Cards fall — exactly the same cards as before but now being held by Whyte not Murray.

    Go figure?

  12. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    EKbhoy

That is why Whyte is charged with a breach of the Companies Act provisions regarding fiancial assistance.

    So, imagine the scenario.

    “You Breach financial assistance provsions”

    ” No I didn’t”

    “Yes you did”

” No I didn’t! I bought club for £1 and then hawked their assets to pay the bank who were about to foreclose!

” That amounts to financial assistance”

” No it doesn’t and I have numerous lawyers lettersto say so!”

    ” The lawyers are wrong”

” Well I believed them =, they put it in writing several times”

    “Doesn’t matter”

” Can’t be guilty of a crime if you didn’t know you were committing one”

    ” You knew”

” Prove that beyond all reasonable doubt. I had letters from international lawyers and accountants to say it wasn’t a crime and I specifically asked them to check that everything was legal in advance”

” Silence in court” shouts the judge “What was that noise anyway?”

” That was the sound of the lawyers, the accountants and their insurers shitting themselves senseless, Your Lordship, because the know they are getting their arse sued no matter what.”

“Ah! Carry on” says the judge

“What’s the maximum penalty for the breach of the statutory provisions of the companies acts anyway?”

    “£20 and three Hail Mary’s”

    “OK who has got “£20?”

Lawyers, Accountants and Insurers from the gallery “WE DO!”

“Thanks. Can I go home now?”

  13. EKBhoy

That’s the point, he didn’t buy the club with future revenues, he bought it for £1. He paid off debt with future revenues. If these two are formally linked by arrangement it’s not CTW who’s deepest in the mire.

Like BRTH does with aplomb, break down the steps. CTW is NOT the person who caused liquidation. He affected the timing of administration for sure. Deliberately or foolhardy? I’m not going there. Anyway, back to the tax returns.

  17. I was in Tenerife last week. While lazing by the pool I spied Clydebanks famous son, Kevin Bridges – trademark shuffle and all.

My wife warned me to stay clear. ” Big Kevin is on his holidays. He’s off duty so leave him in peace.

I had lunch with Kevin the very next day. I’m sitting in the shade lurking on CQN when big Kevin just saunters up and sits right next to me.

Strictly speaking he was sitting at the next table and we never actually spoke but hell, if Sevco can claim 54 titles………..

  18. It was 26 degrees all week mate. The last 2 days were very windy though. There had been a few days of rain the previous week.

Our forecast had been for a few cloudy days but that didn’t materialize.

I think at this time of year you just need to ride your luck. I had a brilliant week – I hope you do too.

  19. What’s this 1km parking restriction for Celtic Park?

Is there a proposal to prevent any private vehicles getting that close to the ground?

Nightmare for fans like me who cannot rely on public transport and take very young kids to the games…

  20. For those going to Lisbon for the “50th”, what’s the chance of finding somewhere to see the Scottish Cup Final on the 27th?

  21. For those going to Lisbon for the “50th”, what’s the chance of finding a venue to see the Scottish Cup Final on the 27th?

The rest is ice cream & jelly. Thems know it and so do we.
