No deal for Celtic and Roberts as both look elsewhere

884

After edging ever-closer to a deal for weeks, it looks certain Patrick Roberts will not be playing for Celtic next season. You are well-aware Celtic have been desperate to secure his permanent signing from Manchester City, but I have it on good authority that the club and player are now looking elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers has both budget and ambition for the season ahead and Patrick was a big part of those plans, but the manager has now moved attention elsewhere (and I don’t mean to Aberdeen).

Patrick blossomed here, in particular during the second half of last season. He is an entertainer in the great Celtic tradition, but I have confidence in the manager to deliver what is required for the challenges ahead.

We wish Patrick all the best and thank him for a great 18 months.

I could never forget Willie- as calamitous a debut as I have seen. But I had forgotten we signed him from Aberdeen.

Jimbo, Willie Garner ‘s only two first team games he started for us were His disastrous debut then against St johnstone the following Wednesday at Muirton Park, when we lost 2 nil. Tom McAdam our regular centre half at the time played at left back that night.

Willie never played in the next four league cup section games ., which we won scoring 17 goals in the process but never qualified out of the section unfortunately.

Willie Garner was not a complete disaster, he was in our 6 man squad who won the Daily Express 5 aside tournament at Wembley Arena in 1981.

I remember that he played v St Johnstone where his general play was if anything worse than on the Saturday – Big Billy usually got it right with his signings in his first time in charge and Garner was probably his one outright failure

    Clougher..,

Have you got a problem with Irish unionists, I’m proud to be a unionist and the sooner the north and south are reunited the better.

Being labelled a Unionist does not deter me from supporting Irish renuification I’m surprised an Irishman would allow the separatists to control and own that terminology.

As for Scotland, England and Wales I also support that union as the best option available for the Scottish, Scotland agreed to enter that union freely unlike those in the occupied six counties, the sooner the Irish unionism cause is satisfied the better.

    —————————-

The UK is a Union of three countries that make up Britain, plus Northern Ireland. Your attempt to use the term ‘Unionist’ in an Irish context is facile. The concept of a Union of Northern Ireland and the Republic is bogus, as it confers a legitimacy to the original NI gerrymandered six-county statelet.

And please don’t cite SNP anti-Catholicism or anti-Irishness. For every Wolfe or Salmond, there are many more examples of Labour politicians’ anti Catholic/Irish comments that I have witnessed personally.

Your Unionist bedfellows out on the march today in full regalia must wonder about Unionists like you, the gift that keeps on giving, with your support ensures that the orange tail gets its regular chance to wag the Westminster dog. And you talk about stupid huns!

People through history and throughout the world have shed blood for their country’s independence. You lot couldn’t even put an X on a ballot paper.

Wear your butcher’s apron with pride, Canamalar.

With the greatest of respect, you’ve gone way over the top in voicing your opinion and arguing against that of others.

You’re effectively calling everyone with a different opinion from you things which they are not.

I had to edit that paragraph.

I don’t recall you being an attack dog like this before, and it saddens me to see your attempt to denigrate anyone who doesn’t have your views.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. IIRC,CANAMALAR’s was based on simple economics.

  13. I’ve been barred from posting on the Scottish Football Monitor after a two-day long debate with Auldheid. That blog had stopped me posting a short video (made personally and football related, and not at all offensive) on Thursday, and yesterday prevented a lengthy post relating to Res12.

This censorship by Auldheid’s pal, Big Pink, coincided with Auldheid inviting me onto CQN. So Canamalar you have your fellow requisitioner to blame for my presence today.

I have to say, the censorship by TSFM came as a shock to me. So I now have a new respect for Paul 67 who has always allowed my posts.

Martin Hayes was bad I agree although I thought Ian Andrews was worse. People tout the likes of Muggleton as being our worst keeper but to me Andrews was the worst I have seen even in the pre season friendly with Cruzeiro the warning signs were there. Martin Hayes? Well the story about him locking himself in his own car pretty much says it all.

    BRTH,

Thanks for your continued work in respect of Res 12.

    SFTB/Canamalar,

The Independence Vote was an opportunity to sever the Orange Umbilical Cord between Edinburgh and Westminster.

It would have consigned the Butcher’s Apron to the History books.

It would have meant that Scottish soldiers would never serve in the Six Counties.

Self interest, fear… whatever reason motivated many on here to support the Union of Scotland and England.

It would have meant that the Scottish electorate would have had a direct influence on their own government. Not majority rule from London.

    That is a Unionist position.

The population of the island of Ireland have never been offered such a vote.

The Six Counties was never a ‘nation state.’

The comparison between the re-unification of Ireland and the Independence of Scotland underlines that you haven’t thought this through or perhaps the media coverage has clouded your thinking.

    To conclude,

    SFTB,

By your own admission you voted away your nation’s independence into an English dominated Parliament.

Thanks to that position the Tory government and the DUP are in talks to form an alliance to govern Scottish affairs, including the crucial Brexit policy (not voted for in Scotland).

    Canamalar,

Good luck in Cambodia. I’ve no idea whether you voted or were abroad.

    Ernie,

Much of the above applies. Look at the social demographics of the ROI and the reduction of sectarianism post the exit of Westminster. The OO and FM’s were very prominent in the Pale.

You might be underestimating the pernicious influence of the Union Jack in propping up entitlement and sectarianism in Scotland.

Independence would have isolated many of the extreme and illogical positions in Scottish society, especially as politics and the population in the Six Counties continues to evolve.

Basically I have confidence in the Scottish people, especially the young.

I note your quotation of the Celtic Wedding vow taken from the Genesis 2.23.

It’s very popular now with Wedding Planners I hear:)
