No deal for Celtic and Roberts as both look elsewhere

884

After edging ever-closer to a deal for weeks, it looks certain Patrick Roberts will not be playing for Celtic next season. You are well-aware Celtic have been desperate to secure his permanent signing from Manchester City, but I have it on good authority that the club and player are now looking elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers has both budget and ambition for the season ahead and Patrick was a big part of those plans, but the manager has now moved attention elsewhere (and I don’t mean to Aberdeen).

Patrick blossomed here, in particular during the second half of last season. He is an entertainer in the great Celtic tradition, but I have confidence in the manager to deliver what is required for the challenges ahead.

We wish Patrick all the best and thank him for a great 18 months.

    In Summary,

CQN Unionists appear quiet as the DUP march into Downing Street. Will Arlene negotiate herself (or Nigel) a seat on the UN Security Council?

Or will a lead role in the Brexit negotiations secure the DUP votes for the Tories? Or maybe just assurances about No Surrender in the Six Counties?

Maybe one of our CQN Unionists (en-route to the Beer Cafe) can ask the Orangemen marching through Glasgow today what is likely to happen with the DUP/Tory alliance and their kid’s futures?

Prime Unionist and unlawful settler on Aboriginal land; Macjay renounced the British Electoral System and UK Party Politics in the last seven days and confirmed his monarchist tendencies this morning.

Letters of complaint have been sent to the SFA and Peter Lawwell (again). PL must get more letters and petitions than Santa. There again you might be better off writing to Santa or the fairies at the end of the garden?

Paddy hasn’t signed. His fault not Celtic’s (no truth about the VVD money).

John ‘The Bull’ Hayes ex Munster and Ireland prop has been identified by PL as a target. He will sign to add speed to the team.

Scotland ‘blue’ it against England as usual. After Leigh Griffiths gave us the lead from two mighty free kicks. The ‘bottle’then went, a duff pass and poor defending cost us.

Have you got a problem with Irish unionists, I’m proud to be a unionist and the sooner the north and south are reunited the better.

Being labelled a Unionist does not deter me from supporting Irish renuification I’m surprised an Irishman would allow the separatists to control and own that terminology.

As for Scotland, England and Wales I also support that union as the best option available for the Scottish, Scotland agreed to enter that union freely unlike those in the occupied six counties, the sooner the Irish unionism cause is satisfied the better.

Oh and I’ve recently moved to Cambodia to work while studying at big school so Res12 (even though responsibility has been handed over to the board, as previously announced on here) and CQN have had to take a back seat, or is that unreasonable of me ?

I’m not sure why May has decided to have some form of arrangement with the DUP.

It’s not like the DUP were ever ever going to back the Labour Party.

Not when it’s being led by a couple of IRA supporters.

But I’m sure the Ulster Scots whom the DUP represent will be happy with the situation.

And I daresay a good few of their Scottish brethern will be too, given that they are ‘blood of our blood and bone of our bone’ as that nice Mr Salmond (remember him) once said.

It’s worth bearing in mind of course that the main effect of the DUP’s involvement will be the death of hard Brexit, given that they will insist on a soft border.

And anyway, even if the DUP for whatever reason don’t support the Tories I can’t see the SNP voting for an early election. They aren’t that stupid. Though it would be interesting watching the ‘left nationalists’ trying again to justify voting SNP rather than Labour.

Good to know you are in Cambodia.

For some reason, I had it in my head that you might have been in Cairo (which is ok when times are good but very bad when things turn sour) or Islamabad which I don’t fancy at all.

    Welcome to Johnny Hayes.

I hope Johnny will have as good a time on the pitch for us as the vastly underrated , Billy Stark .

Billy was a far better player than I thought when after seeing him play for St Mirren and Aberdeen before joining us.

Johnny might be one of these players who gets better when paying with better players.

  17. Afternoon

Hope all well. Still a bit woozy from Jetlag. Staying out of any political discusslions- some of the topics this week make me wish this blog was like others and had separate threads for non-Celtic topics.

Sorry that Paddy Roberts does not appear to be coming. I do wonder if Brendan and Celtic’s hierarchy ever had his permanent signing in their thoughts though. Smashing player when his eye was in though he did seem to play better when the clocks went forward. Would love to have seen him for another season though- he would have got 30 goals.

Welcome mat out for Jonny Hayes. Unlike Logan or Rooney during Ronny’s first season I have never struck me as being someone we should sign but guys like Tom Callaghan, Dixie Deans, Andy Lynch and Scott McDonald came into the same category and they turned out quite well didn’t they?

I can only remember us signing 3 players from Aberdeen- Steve Murray, Billy Stark and John Hewitt. The last named was a flop- injury prone and a heart that never left the North East but the other two were smashing players for us. I hope that in a few years I speak as fondly of Jonny Hayes as those two fine players. Over to you Mr Hayes

Re 1958-59 team: Whilst agreeing with most of TT’s recollections, mine are slightly different.I always ‘feared’ Ralph Brand getting on the ball as he did the ‘business’ and Millar the ‘work’

Millar,Brand and Wilson IIRC were our nemeses in those days! Don’t do Google so could be well wrong

*scott macmillan miller brand and wilson, alice was later replaced by the wee bunion. During that period, 58-63, they won 3 Leagues, 3 SC and 3 LC, nae treble though. The reason thy didnae win more was Scottish fitba was awash with good teams then, except for us.

They also reached the ECWC winners final losing tae Fiorentina, another team that died and being humiliated in the semis of the Big Cup losing 12-4 on aggregate tae the mighty Eintracht Frankfurt who themselves were gubbed 7-3 by Real in the final.

    Cosy Corner Bhoy,

It took a youthful Billy Mc.Neil to tame Jimmy Millar. Bobby Evens just couldn’t handle him.

*Billy did struggle initially with one of garngard’s finest jim forrest he was too nice, big Cush didnae, it was only when Jock came back that Billy along with Luggy, who took no prisoners, that Billy started ate get a grip (nae pun intended) on him.

  21. I ve just been watching the youtube video collection of Hayes assists/goals. He predominately plays on the left, scored a couple from the middle and ironically one on the right against us. I don’t see him as a replacement for Paddy, more suited to Sinclair’s position.

On being sent off against them Cairney said ” My opponent in most Old Firm games was Willie Johnston. It was Willie who caused me to get ordered off for the second and final time in my career. He ruffled my hair after I had scored an own goal and said: ”Well done”. Then he had a couple of kicks on an ankle injury. I cracked. Tiny Wharton was the referee. He always addressed you by your number. He called me over to him and said: ”Mr Two. Now, I did warn you before about some of your tackling. I’m afraid I will be booking you and ordering you off.”
