No nonsense excuses, Celtic

199

I’m having none of this frozen Arctic Circle nonsense, Bodo is due to be 1 degree colder than Lanarkshire by kick-off this evening.  The plastic pitch is a challenge, but we need proper game time on plastic with that visit to Livingston looming a week on Sunday – so let’s think positively about this opportunity.

This game is winnable, the tie is winnable.  Bodo/Glimt remain preseason, they will end the game as tired as they looked last week and would find extra-time an impossible endurance.  Celtic can and must play far better than they did in the first leg.  They lost, because they were poor and made the wrong selection decisions.  This is not a time for flamboyant midfield experimentation, start with our strongest 11, pass the ball with speed and we should find pockets of Arctic space denied to us last week.

If the score is 0-0 at 60 minutes the tie will still be there for us.  These are the challenges players get into the game to face.  It is a great opportunity for so many in this new Celtic side.  Bring it on.

    Back to Basics

I did post the points total from a previous post.

My thinking was that last season was a disaster from start to finish ( just my memory rather than checking)

I would guess that most posters would, if asked, thought we had a bigger gap than 8 points compared to last year. Just thought it was interesting.

    ————–

I agree with Madmitch on performance being a better indicator of how we are doing than points. In the first half of 20/21 I reckon we spawned about 8 points. 6 of those prior to the 0-2 Rangers game. The early season tally hid huge issues in perf/mgt/player attitude etc.

To be fair to P67, he did an article after the 5-1 opening day game vs Hamilton on our defensive issues (i had been scared witless since pre-season games).

He also did an article on how marginal the 2020 Jan to March post Dubai run had been vs the Rangers collapse. We were not imperious with the 3-5-2 and they were a bit unlucky. Covid curtailing the season worked for us

  2. JHB,

Can you please tell me the person,or persons, from the SNP,who uttered the much used Media soundbite,”A once in a generation vote”.

The clue is in the question.

If you want to state facts, make sure they are facts, not Media inspired myths. You know, say a thing long enough,it then gets taken as the truth.

  3. MADMITCH

You were one who told me I was talking crap when I said an invasion was inevitable so I’m not going to listen to your arrogant nonsense now. You don’t half talk shite when it comes to politics.

  4. Trondheim airport is in a place called Hell , was medivacced from it many moons ago ,was well named.HH

The reason I ask is that you suggested you’d voted for Colin Fox, but his organisation only stood on the list vote, not the constituency vote, so I just wondered if you had voted for a constituency candidate and how that panned out. Did your candidate win and how did they vote on the repeal of the SNP’s Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012? No need to reply if it’s too upsetting for you.

And you appear to have missed this.

No the guy had no connection with Switzerland that I’m aware of. He was only ever an occasional poster but I haven’t seen him on for a long long time.

  9. West Craigs

The Celtic bus leaves from the Redbrae pub so you should see it there. I imagine that the Chase Inn in Harestanes will be showing it too along with McGinleys bar at Eastside.

They’ll probably be showing both games. The latter would be my preference.

    Good luck.

Bada Bing – the Celtic fans charter flight has been diverted significantly south! Apparently they may not make it!

  10. OHITs,

I too remember Trondhelm Airport.and the crazy roads.

Are you in the Engineering Construction industry by any chance. ?

  11. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Yorkbhoy – cheers.

“would guess that most posters would, if asked, thought we had a bigger gap than 8 points compared to last year”.

    Indeed. And that includes me.

    The stat surprised me.

And partly prompted a bit of digging.

I’m routinely interested in overlaying thoughts/feelings with data to see how close or far apart they are.

In this case I think the data indicates the depth of the fall and the point in time the falling stopped …

… which for me was 2 weeks after Ange arrived.

Admittedly, it took a further 8-10? weeks for the upward direction to translate into winning games regularly.

(When delivering improvements on a significant scale, there’s always a lag ! )

But, statistically at least, we haven’t looked back since.

    Hail hail

    Not upsetting at all Ernie

What is the big secret with you ? do you consider yourself a character from a John Le Carre novel, are you in the masons, work in national security to reveal where you voted would imperil the nation in some way

The Spanish inquisition act gets boring Ernie for everyone on the blog

    last time

What was the name of the Labour MSP you voted for and what was the name of the constituency ?

Please don’t say you voted for an SNP candidate who went on to vote against the repeal of Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

Just please, don’t. It would be too ridiculous for words.

I don’t recall the guy’s name on here but I do remember it had Japan in it. As I say it was quite a long time ago and probably before you started posting on here. When was that by the way?

  18. MADMITCH

  28. TMcL @ 2.12

For someone who couldn’t deal with / explain / understand the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in the time of Pol Phot — no military threat and no UN Resolution — you seem to have no problem parroting Nat ? trot propaganda.

Still nothing about your Nostradamus act regarding the invasion of Ukraine.

On a slightly more positive note — missing pharma programming bloke who works from home in the east of Ukraine has been located.

He is hiding out in a cellar / shelter and is waiting for news on where the Russians are heading.

Small victory but worth a celebration.

  29. Time for Celtic

Off to meet 3 CQN posters from way back none of you will remember them ! Japanese, American, and Russian we are meeting up at the Burns Howff to watch the game, I’m on the bell all welcome

    True story

    COYBIG

  30. there were two Japan based supporters on CQN back then.

One was Starry Plough, a chef with a sideline in street photography, whom I met in Switzerland shortly before he went back to Japan.

The second guy was Mike(I think)inJapan who was doing nano technology work but moved back to Newcastle and traveled on the supporters bus from there. I met him too.

Neither post on the board any longer.

There may have been others who spent time in Japan that I cannot name or recall but I’ll take it on trust that, if Ernie says he has furnished tickets a while back for a Japan poster, he did so. I know Ernie annoys a lot of people on the Board but it is not a tendency to lie that has annoyed people; there are other faults of intemperance and rudeness that are more justified.

However, Ernie has suffered some fiction (lying) about his persona. It was a well published trope on here that he lived in Croydon, based on nothing stronger than a desire that it was so because t made his Independence opinions less relevant somehow. Living abroad did not seem to delegitimise the opinions of Sean Connery, Brian Cox, Irvine Welsh or Alan Cummings.

The political debate is a legitimate one and the passion you feel for one side or another is mostly admirable but you should defend or attack someone based on what they actually say and do , and not on what you imagine and then believe about them.

Now- back to the football for me
