Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.
With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.
Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.
When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.
Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

Kilmarnock in my opinion will be no match for the tribute act tonight Killie have brought in around 12 new players and as yet they have not knitted together.I would take Killie as favourite to be relegated and there manager the first in the SPL to lose his job.For me the magic twat is doing a good job for them and I see them finish in the top three this season. imho, We have a good squad of maybe 16/18 players and the rest can go (jo,ef,gms and the likes), we need another rb in and a def mid to help broony as he can’t do it all himself as rogic and bitton seem to keep leaving him to it. McCarthy would bring balance to the whole team, Provide a link from backline and MD, up top we have plenty unless Ciftci goes then we need another striker in. Leigh is not a machine.
Would like to see Christie and paddy get a run out tomorrow.

Lets see who splashes the cash, we have next week and we now know who we have in europe and after Sat we will know where we are in the title race, We will have played the title challengers. The real title challengers and hopefully beat them.

Now we have won our cup final for the year, focus must now be on achieving our CL qualification next year.
Priority on winning the league, and utilizing our superior resources to hammer anyone that has the temerity to challenge our domination.
Have a party in the Champions League by all means, but if we are honest with ourselves, we cannot compete with teams funded by oil money.
Our goal should be to solidify what opportunities we do have, such as luring the caliber of player to Paradise that can deliver Scottish league dominance and ensure our entry into the big competition.
Brendan and his assistants now have an idea what is required to ensure success over the three ridiculous qualifying rounds. Let’s get the infrastructure in place now for 17/18.
Beginning with a ruthless performance against Aberdeen this weekend would be a great start.

Agree as we need more than one player announced by Lawwell. I am sure Brendan would want another 3 or 4 especially as we expect more to leave. The quality of the opposition and the level of performance on Tuesday away from home suggests we need to strengthen significantly to avoid embarrassment.
Is this Lawwells attempt in curtailing Brendan’s transfers spending. If all the CL money is to be reinvested in the team we must be buying a £25M player. With the ins/outs so far we must be near enough break even including Johansen.
Dermot put Lawwell back in his box and we had Brendan to run the football side. Lawwell now suddenly has the urge to announce to all and sundry that he will limit Brendan to one player. I expected the two men to clash as Brendan will not tolerate interference from Lawwell.
I also understand that Brendan is not using the Celtic scouting system — but rather his own network and is very active. Lawwell only finds out about a player when Brendan is ready —which is different to the way it worked before when everything went thru Park/Lawwell.
The control freak beancounter just can’t give it up and let Brendan develop the football side.

Lawwell should not be saying anything on the football dept full stop. That is Brendan’s area. It doesn’t matter if he is misleading the SMSM — the best policy is to tell them zilch and parade 3 players on deadline day. The fact Lawwell has entered into Brendan’s area is a problem. He was given assurances on this before taking the role is my understanding. Unfortunately the control freak beancounter can’t help himself. Brendan has also got the scars on his back from Liverpools transfer system approach.
The biggest threat to Brendan developing the Team he wants is Lawwell. He took weeks to close a routine deal with Sinclair. Even tho Brendan identifies the player he wants, sounds out the agent on the players demands and check they are viable he depends on Lawwell to close the fee / loan agreement. We don’t have weeks before transfer deadline day.
If Lawwell supports Brendan and we bring in 3 off Brendan’s targets I will take everything back. Let’s see where we are on deadline day and where we stand with Mr Celtic our illustrious CEO.

PL is a useless property bean counter who wouldn’t know a growth agenda if it can up and pi**ed on his heated driveway.
When DD fell out of love with his EPL dream and didn’t fancy another trip to meet the bank manager it was goodnight to progress.
We have had a couple of opportunities to kick on.
However we handed a financial lifeline to the TFOD with their 3 titles and CL opportunities.
If SDM had not been so desperate to run away and hide they might have pulled it off.
Then when we had opportunities it was cheap manager x 3 ending up with a immature coach who was nowhere ready for the job — result stagnation, player selling and two CL failures and £40/50mill lost in revenue and tumbleweed in the stadium.
We have a great story to sell.
Bit of drive and imagination and we could go places.
However PL is not up to the job, in the words of a former chairman — he is not fit for purpose.
