No one wanted Celtic from Pot 4

1078

Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.

With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.

Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.

When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.

Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

  1. Looking forward to some great CL nights at Celtic Park, but feel that we will be fighting hard to get third place.

I was not in favour but thought the sharp and quick protest was very effective and proportionate. your description suggest a second hand view of events. Were you at that game caller? if you were, which section? I’m in 408, not far from GB and have a very different memory of events. For me it was quick and to the point then flags away and focus on the game. however if you rely on the Internet for you info you may have formed an opinion that it was very different.

will you be at the game tomorrow? what’s you prediction. who are your favourite players and are you a fan of rogic? enough there to focus you away from your GB obsession.

Guess a lot will depend on what signings we make before the window closes.

Hopefully we can get a couple of signings that are good enough to walk straight into the team.

Id love them to both be solid midfielders and i believe we would see benefits from strengthening that area at both ends of the pitch.

Its going to be a huge step for us to try to compete at this level once again and as much as Brendan has already made a huge difference…….we may need to keep in mind that we were ‘just happy to be there again and anything else would be a bonus’ if it does prove to be too big a step and we suffer at the hands of these teams!

It’s not so long ago, when the transfer market was very quiet, supporters on here were demanding that Peter Lawwell let the supporters know what is happening on the transfer front.

Now he is being criticised for telling the supporters what is happening on the transfer front.

  16. I think it would be folly to sign a striker in this window, i’d rather a right back and a solid defensive midfielder, someone who’ll take no sh*t, get stuck in and intimidate the opposition.

Still impressed with that Ogu fella from HBS and at €1.5 million surely worth a punt.

Need to punt the dead weight around the club too. Hard to shift though if no one wants them.

I am asking again as I am quite thick and have no sense of direction…where exactly is CQN corner?

If I approach, is there a special greeting or password?

Will I have to fill out a form?

Will I be asked if I prefer square or sliced?

Is there a CQN chief who does the introductions?

Will someone go through my pockets to see if I have a Palestinian key ring?

Will CQNers make fun of my big nose and sticky-out ears?

Should I take the risk or just go straight to my seat?

    So many questions…I’m awfy nervous…

  22. Good evening everyone, the Celtic family should be in good heart, massive games ahead but first we have a huge game tomorrow.

I an travelling solo tomorrow , my usual game partner is away for the weekend, and don’t have a ticket yet, will the ticket office be huge or will I land lucky and take on on offer near the ground?

These thoughts will occupy my mind while others fret over the performance of another newly formed Glasgow club .

I will also check out the Bayern Munich game on BT, just in case we grow them in the semi final.

They don’t stick out like sore thumbs or anything and neither will you so just go up to someone you feel comfortable about talking to and ask them if they are a CQNer.

Im sure you will find someone pretty quickly and once you do, you will then get to meet and put a face to a lot more of them.

Hoping to stop by myself so hopefully you will be about so i can say hello!

That’s about all you or anyone gets from me as im a bit shy but they are a lovely bunch and will make you welcome.

  24. Hard to see anything other than a Sevco win tonight. Killie are poor and having just had a look at their team I don’t recognise most of their players. Boydachenko up front as well.

BT…don’t know JW but do know your dad and I think he’ll remember me…thanks…

  26. Auldtam,

Prior to Brendan , Lawwell controlled all ins/outs which resulted in the deterioration to level of Sevco semi final defeat. As the de facto CEO/ Director of Football It was right the fans challenged him on signings.

Now with Brendan it is zilch to do with him. He should not interfere in Brendan’s area of responsibility and he should have kept his mouth shut. However he couldn’t help himself. Only Brendan can update the fans on football matters.

Lawwell can stick to reporting the annual accounts. Unfortunately Brendan has to rely on him to close deals and that is a concern. Brendan will have identified 3 or 4 players to Lawwell to bring in whom he will have an in principle agreement with ( incl wages ). It will then be up to Lawwell to close the transfer deal with the clubs. If he messes around like he did with Sinclair it might only one. Brendan will need to keep the pressure on the beancounter to deliver.

This should be Lawwells last year. He has been at Celtic too long and he is past his sell by date.
