On signing from domestic rivals

816

There are limits to how far we can recruit from our domestic market and continue to prosper.  Martin O’Neill preferred to sign players his teams had faced, which meant Hibs and St Johnstone being plundered, eventually leading to decline.  Gordon Strachan enjoyed watching Hibs all his life; it showed in his Celtic signings.

Rumour has it when Jock Stein signed Willie Wallace from Hearts in 1966 his timing was determined by the need to deny a rival Wallace’ signature.  Neil Lennon should find it easy to compete with the likes of Derby County, if he is motivated to do so.

Enjoy the fantastic clips of Willie Wallace below from the 1960s.  You’ll have seen many before but the clip of him beating three Celtic defenders before scoring was new to me.  It might have been the goal which convinced Jock to move.

The jokes, funny one-liners, wind-ups, information, secrets, education on Celtic and life in general, the charitable ethics, the family unity, the family favorites, the family black sheep, the critic’s, the died in the wools, the malcontents etc…it’s all fantastic.

Thank you all very much for everything – especially Paul67.

I rate Diamanti . He did well to recover from his disastrous time at West Ham . Transfer rumor stuff has him leaving Bologna for Milan or Juve ..

Insigne is a fabulous player.. He could become a legend .

  4. Welcome Lou.

I think you have summed up the blog accurately.

Tome will tell into which category you belong !

I will definitely give Insigne a run out in the team now, he has an abundance of pace as well. Too many think pace is the be all and end all, I suppose I was being a wee bit resistant to pace in that crucial number 10 position.

I think it will depend on how long you had it before discovering the initial problem.

It will help if you can contact the previous owner to find out if the car had this problem when he had it.

Then it will be down to your local Trading Standards dept and to Cotizen’s Advice.

Sorry not to be of more assistance, but I hope this gives you a starting point.

Ha, no not at all :>)

My moniker is a reflection or a, recollection that I maybe strangely, thought that Lou was tooling-up to take on the cardighun by playing the type of tactics that were a mirror of his own cynical team setups.

Then back in 1994, Lou had his target’s in the transfer market that were different from the normal expected type of player that Celtic were known for. He wanted to go to the World cup in the USA to run the rule over some tough tackling Nigerian midfielders and he wanted to bring in tall tough guy striker – Paul Furlong.

Lou new that to topple ‘them’ Celtic had to toughen up.

    Croatia / Scotland .

Sicilian bookies offering Croatia at 1/4 .

    Scotland are 12/1.

Italian media are speculating that Inter’s 19 year old playmaker , Mateo Kovacic , will play .He is a player , a fabulous passer of the ball.

  21. I’m irked by the noisy big butchers, at the best of times, but what I have witnessed over the past few days fills me with disgust. It all kicked off on Sunday morning, they were doing their usual ASBO bit with their ugly squawking and flapping about in the berry trees at the bottom of the garden, snapping off three inch thick branches etc, shouting and swearing like an Orc forced to buy another season ticket, then I noticed the proceedings had become even more frenzied.

The commotion went on through most of the day and into Friday, they spent the morning dive-bombing the resident fox family who were only minding their own business sunbathing, stretching and scratching as they do, and one of them even walked up behind the youngest fox, and pecked it from behind, on the bottom.

Years ago before we moved we had a dutch *black n white* rabbit they tried to terminate on a regular basis.

Anyway, worse was to follow this morning and sadly, I found the fruits of their labour.

A headless blackbird *male* and a *female* blackbird with both eyes pecked out, scattered around them were the remains of a nest and possibly some chicks or eggs hard to tell, as I don’t know what came first.

They could have done no harm to the magpies, but something in the magpie psyche has made them carry out barbarism. the irony is, they are not even resident in my garden, but live two doors down, in a Sevconian’s overgrown rhododendron

    bush.

Magpies, are the psychos of the bird world, something should be done about them, don’t say get an over and under shotgun and shoot the dastards, as my big brother tried this once, and after he’d taken one out, he only had every single magpie from Glasgow round at his door his wife felt like Tippie Hedren, and they couldn’t go out for a week.

  22. Lou ‘uppity Tim’

    Welcome.

Ps I really really didnae like Macari as a manager :-)

If he wanted a big tough guy striker,he should have gone for Mick Harford.

He would have battered lumps out the lot of them on his own-and that includes the crowd!
