There are limits to how far we can recruit from our domestic market and continue to prosper. Martin O’Neill preferred to sign players his teams had faced, which meant Hibs and St Johnstone being plundered, eventually leading to decline. Gordon Strachan enjoyed watching Hibs all his life; it showed in his Celtic signings.
Rumour has it when Jock Stein signed Willie Wallace from Hearts in 1966 his timing was determined by the need to deny a rival Wallace’ signature. Neil Lennon should find it easy to compete with the likes of Derby County, if he is motivated to do so.
Enjoy the fantastic clips of Willie Wallace below from the 1960s. You’ll have seen many before but the clip of him beating three Celtic defenders before scoring was new to me. It might have been the goal which convinced Jock to move.

oglach,
You seem to be mixing up goals per game with games per goal.
From the games played and goals scored figures that you provided the goals per game stats would be:
Hooper: 0.70 goals per game
Stokes: 0.53 goals per game
Both very good returns and it has to be said that Stokes has provided the assist for Hooper for a few of these goals. I would love to see them both stay as they are a very effective pairing up front.

Naw, I love him, but not that much!!! FFS:-)
Morning CQN
Love the Charlotte tapes
Laughed at Craig Whyte rubbishing the tabloid hack favourite, the manager with 6 months of paperwork and Greggs bags on his desk, hilarious
If Celtic keep Hooper and Stokes our best pairing statistically per the CQN anorak division, however do the aforementioned pairing worry C/L group teams? no doubt they will continue to terrify SPL teams, therefore do we need more strikers who do it at SPL level.
Samaras is our top choice for playing lone striker role with his international and C/L experience he is an invaluable option for away European games, with Commons, Forrest and Watt still to be added to the mix, why are posters demanding an unproven player in the International and European arenas be our first signing, Russel is not first option for me, i hope the club is looking for that striker who will worry C/L group teams

I think MIDFIELD MAESTRO has decided to dispense wi the pleasantries unless the goodies are forthcoming.
A bit like being married….
So is part 6 of Charlotte’s revelations last night proof that the SNP were prepared to risk the whole of Scottish football and intervene to save the Huns?
Blood of our blood etc etc right enough…
LIONROARS67
On the subject of likely personnel for next season, the record has us making a “last-ditch” attempt to sign JOHNNY RUSSELL.
Anyone else think it would be termed “eleventh-hour move” if the huns did it?
ITALIABHOY
I can barely make out a word on those tapes.
Pretty sure Salmond would oil his way out of any blame being apportioned anyway.
Not likely to have anything in writing,oh wait….
Italianbhoy – it’s just wee personal gripe of mine but the “blood of our blood ” quote was in the context of sending Scottish water to help all those over the sea. The one thing it doesn’t demonstrate is anti Catholic agenda.
Flipping hell an old sponging greek has been taken into hospital.bbc do my head in..
Can’t wait for homes under the hammer…
Happy birthday pedro..

Not what i read from listening to the tapes, however i don’t share your hatred for the SNP
What i heard was Duff & Phelps (administrators extradonaire) state that IF all else failsand all deals (Miller, blue knights etc etc) fall through then last option was to contact the Scottish Government and ask what next now? no statement that there had been dialogue with or a deal in the offering by the Scottish Government
The Anthony Stokes admirers are up and at it early today .
“Better all round player” than Gary Hooper is the latest cracker.
Anyone see half the English Premier League linked with him?
The EPL may well be overhyped and a monster but I’d be more inclined to agree with the several managers from that league who fancy Hooper as a player in his own right, never mind compared to Stokes.

Howdy,old bean.
I’m hoping for more of the same on Saturday 28th September.
The last one,as you say,was a belter, and hopefully a few people who attended will no longer blithely walk past each other as strangers in future!
Also gonna see who is interested in a wee West London dayooooot on 20th July when we play Brentford.
Even though we are unlikely to display too many first-teamers,it has the advantage of a two-hour sobriety break!
Which I for one could have done with the last time….

When it comes to Sevco and its supporters what politicians can you trust?

I was in ole EK yesterday-scorchio!
No wonder Clyde want to move there!
The ole Whirlies roundabout looked like Tatooine, under a broiling sun
Fingers crossed the Bully Wee have laid in the SPF30, they’ll need it!
The Daily Rag is at it. How predictable Balde set to SNUB Celtic, guys don’t just sign for Clubs because they offer them better money, they do it just to SNUB Celtic. A Celtic FAN has also telephoned the Rag to tell the them there are a few chancers at Celtic who are not fit to lace Russell’s boots this is a preamble to Mondays headlines when Celtic will “MISS OUT” on Russell. Anyhow I’ m off oot or I’ll miss oot on my golf on this absolutely glorious morning in Tipperary.
I’m likin’ the look of Mr Kingsnorth, the hedgehog fund manager and new Chief- Zombie-in-waitin’.
I think by the time he’s finished sluggin’ it out with Doug and Dinsdale Pirana they’ll all be up to the blood will be over their ole brogues and up to their knees.
FGF, bobm is planning another hootenanny in fun city for 28th Sept. Hopefully we have a home game that day and can party after a hoops win.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a fan of Anthony Stokes, I’ve nailed my coulours to that particular mast a long time ago, I’m also a big fan of Hooper but even he would acknowledge that an awful lot of his Celtic goals have come from Stokes assists, it was never anything I would have associated with Stokes before he joined us but he is now the second most creative player we have after Commons.
I would not try and replace Stokes with Russell as Russell simply will not set up as many goals as Stokes but I’d rather ask the same question as Oglach if we all rate Watt so highly why would we sign Russell?
I am set to SNUB wee Kelly Brook [agane].

You have no idea the kind of bucket collection I’d be up for, as for organising it?
No to drone strikes anywhere in this World, the real work of cowards and not the actual people who pull the trigger, the politicians who are so detached from the act and are doubtless sweetened beyond belief.
I quietly scoffed about 2+years ago when I heard that the whole World was being gridded by coordinates. Why do such a manoeuvre?
Dissenters, will be crushed very early, once they start doing their small nation policies to the Big Nations.
Big government = Big problem and I actually think the upper middle class around the World are just starting to see that they are about to be obliterated, all of course, is just my personal opinion.
