On signing from domestic rivals

816

There are limits to how far we can recruit from our domestic market and continue to prosper.  Martin O’Neill preferred to sign players his teams had faced, which meant Hibs and St Johnstone being plundered, eventually leading to decline.  Gordon Strachan enjoyed watching Hibs all his life; it showed in his Celtic signings.

Rumour has it when Jock Stein signed Willie Wallace from Hearts in 1966 his timing was determined by the need to deny a rival Wallace’ signature.  Neil Lennon should find it easy to compete with the likes of Derby County, if he is motivated to do so.

Enjoy the fantastic clips of Willie Wallace below from the 1960s.  You’ll have seen many before but the clip of him beating three Celtic defenders before scoring was new to me.  It might have been the goal which convinced Jock to move.

Skip seeing PW and get a ticket to see the Boss at Hamdump. I can assure you he will blow you away mate. 3 hours plus of sheer energy. Then you can pop doon the road to the big midden and see the Hoops.

More tickets made available to see the Boss, so no excuses. Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

Sounds like you and 16 ROADS are in accord.

I don’t like them either-ever tried to run one over? Buggers can feel the vibration through the road surface as the van approaches, and fly off.

I have no idea how they manage that in the nearby fields though….

I’ve lost count of the amount of chicks the gulls that reside in the ole street where I live have bred, I respect them and try not to go out when the chicks are near. Hell hath no fury.

They still sh*t* all over my car at random times, there just doesn’t seem to be enough food to be able to do what they do at times ffs. Are they F’ng mental or do they hold a grudge about something I don’t really know about. I still like seeing those grey gulls as they try to fly though, it puts a smile on my face everytime.

Anyone any ideas regarding my car query at 9.36

    ——————————————————————-

The problem may not be the engine it may be the light. I had a VW multivan, great car, for years and the engine management light was always coming on, no sooner was it fixed than it came on again. Stupid things would cause it like faulty tail light, pressure valve in the petrol tank. Ask the garage to confirm that it is the engine, they should be able to run a diagnostic on it with their computer. I just got used to it after a while.

What I remember the most about Lou’s time as manger was his straight talking interviews at what was a very difficult time for Celtic.

Lou was on – Sport in Question – one night with, Donald Findlay, Archie Macpherson and some lady runner whose name I can’t remember.

Anyway….Donald and Archie continuously badgered Lou about the up and coming O## F### game at Ibrox were Celtic fans were banned, wanting Lou to admit that Celtic fans – deserved to be banned ?

Lou stood his ground, saying that the fans ban would be a massive inspirational tool for his team and also said that, Celtic might ban Rangers supporters from Celtic Park the following season !!!

Both, Archie and Donald knew there and then that, Celtic had an uppitty Tim of a manager and for them, that was a problem.

As a long-time fan of Mr Stringbean-late seventies-I finally went to see him in 2009.

Big Clarence doing what he does,Lofgren,Stevie…

And a mindblowing three hours plus.

For anyone who hasn’t yet,you MUST see this guy while you still can.

As Pog says, take it back to the garage and get them to run the diagnostic tests on it. This will determine whether the fault is in the engine or the light and also should identify exactly what is wrong.

PE time, nice day so rounders in the playground. Ciao.

Ps I really really didnae like Macari as a manager :-)

I stopped liking him the day he left Celtic and the first thing he did was sell his story to the Sun, slating the Club.

    Magpies ..

. Born for a purpose .. They can’t help being what they are .

My current bugbear is Nightjars.. They make an astonishing noise at night [ enough to wake the dogs [and me ] up. A cross between a football rattle and a motorbike .

I recently watched a Nightjar hunting moths.. Fabulous acrobatic flying

  17. Lou (uppitty Tim) Macari…had the cardighuns number…

Interesting take on things, it is the cardighuns part that is most intriguing. The ole KevJ, a well respected person if not poster, would definitely jive with your talking, I feel.

  18. Magpies are a much maligned species, i find them fascinating and they are like crows very intelligent .

Although they do cause a few problems its cats that kill most birds .

To put it another way , we are the magpies and the h#ns are cats

  19. My only happy memoery of Lou as manager was his first game in charge at Ibrokes.

We came from behind to win. Brian O’Neill netting the winner off his back in injury time. We were pretty poor that day but battled to a win. I don’t think I have ever whitnessed crazier celebrations that what I was involved in during the winning goal. The place was falling apart even back then. I remember the guy in front of me losing both shoes and the seats just crumbling with the force of people celebrating and leaning against them. The place was wrecked not out of malice but pure joy. We were banned and it back fired on them. Collins scored one of the great Celtic goals against them and replicated a carbon copy the following year in a satisfying 2-0 win for Tommy’s Bhoys at Ibrokes with a cracker from the Maestro into the Celtic end rounding of a great day.

Lou was unlucky to be at Celtic in probably our worst financial state in our history but I don’t think he had the skills to be a great manager. He was and is a good Tim though. he still takes the man Utd coin but doesn’t get much press up here. I suspect that he isn’t asked about his opinion by the MSM because he would not toe the line up here and state it as it is. Might be worth while trying to get Lou to give an interview for the very fine CQN magazine. Could be a very good read.

  22. Since your magpies are of Sevconian origin, how about a big poster of NFL. Guaranteed to put the shyters up them.

Birdwatchersouprecipe- you may wish to check out ‘Corvus’, by Esther Woolfson. She lived in Aberdeen, and over the years she fostered a whole variety of corvids, includin’ ole magpies. It’s good on bird behaviour, especially that of crows.
