ONE-TIME WONDER BHOY ON WAY BACK

1

DYLAN McGEOUCH, tipped as a potential wonder Bhoy when he made his Celtic first team debut in November 2011, is getting ready to return to football.

The 29-year-old midfielder has been without a club since being released by Aberdeen in the summer.

McGeouch is now training at Livingston alongside ex-Hoops goal hero Leigh Griffiths, 32, as he works on his fitness levels in preparation for a comeback.

The talented midfielder enjoyed the best days of his career at Hibs when Neil Lennon was in charge which brought international recognition from Scotland and a lucrative contract at Sunderland.

THE CHASE IS ON…Scott Brown and Dylan McGeouch in pursuit of the ball in a 2-2 draw in December 2017 at Easter Road.

However, Dons gaffer Jim Goodwin informed him at the end of the season there would be no contract extension.

He spent two weeks with Mansfield Town and his brief spell at the English League Two side allowed him to work on his fitness and he is carrying on the work at the West Lothian club.

McGeouch said: “David Martindale got in contact with me a few weeks ago and made an offer for me to come in and get training and use it for fitness which is good.

“I appreciate it. Hopefully, when I get a team I’m ready to go.”

Asked about the possibility of a contract, the player, speaking to Open Goal, answered: “To be honest, we’ve not really spoken about it.

“It was just about coming in and getting fit and see where I am.

“I’ve had a few offers, but nothing that I’m jumping at, so I’ve done the waiting game and now I’m at the stage where I need to get something sorted.”

THE LAST APPEARANCE…Leigh Griffiths in action as a second-half substitute against West Ham in July 2021.

Coincidentally, McGeouch and Griffiths were two of six former Parkhead stars CQN flagged up as searching for new clubs in a report back in July.

Tom Rogic, Scott Sinclair, Scott Allan and Nadir Ciftci were the other four – and the quartet have all being fixed up in recent weeks.

The Australian international, 29, who bade an emotional farewell to Paradise following the 6-0 Flag Day victory over Motherwell on May 14, joined Championship strugglers West Brom last month.

Rogic, who won 16 honours in his nine and a half years at Celtic, is struggling for game time with the Midlands club who sacked boss Steve Bruce last week.

CROWNING GLORY…Scott Sinclair celebrates his hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle as the Hoops seal the 2016/17 title. Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong are about to join in.

Sinclair, who had been released by Preston at the age of 33, returned to his first club Bristol Rovers earlier this week.

The former England international, who cost £4.5million when he joined from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016 as one of Brendan Rodgers’ first capyures, has been signed by ex-Ibrox flop Joey Barton, who is boss of the League One outfit.

Sinclair, who was part of Celtic’s treble treble-winning dynasty, left the club in January 2020 for Deepdale after scoring 62 goals in 167 games for the Glasgow club.

Gifted playmaker Allan was up for grabs after leaving Hibs following three spells at the Edinburgh club.

The stylish performer was a massive favourite with the Easter Road support after claiming 17 goals and 39 assists in 127 appearances for the Leith outfit.

I’M BACK…Scott Allan is a scarf ace after agreeing a two-year deal at Arbroath.

PICK IT OUT…Nadir Ciftci scores one of his rare Celtic goals, ironically against Scott Bain then with Dundee.

The midfielder had three years at Parkhead after being bought by Ronny Deila for a bargain £250,000 in August 2015, but has struggled for game time after being diagnosed with a heart condition in 2020 which could have ended his career.

Allan, who will be 31 next month, agreed a two-year deal with Championship club Arbroath in August.

Turkish striker Ciftci was signed by Ronny Deila in a £1.5million switch from Dundee United in July 19 2015, but flopped big-style at Parkhead.

He netted a mere four goals in 26 appearances and was sent out on loan to Poland and also had a brief stay at Plymouth Argyle.

He was released by Brendan Rodgers in June 30 2018.

Amazingly, the forward is now playing for his TENTH club in six years after being released by St Johnstone where he fired blanks in his 12 games for the Perth outfit.

Ciftci joined Greek second-tier side Makedonikes Neapolis at the beginning of this month.
