Operation Get Lawwell Out

837

When Tony Mowbray was in charge of Celtic the club wrote to the SFA regarding the standard of refereeing in Scotland almost on a weekly basis.  The outcome of this correspondence was not constructive, if anything, some at the Association hardened their stance.

A lot has subsequently happened.

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail referred back to Celtic’s dialogue with the SFA during Mowbray’s tenure, which I found interesting.  Soon after, when a referee was found to have lied to Neil Lennon (and his supervisor), the association were vulnerable.  Wounds opened at that time which have not healed.

The ‘paper suggested Peter Lawwell is “Driven, obsessively controlling, politically statute, manipulative.  A master of the dark arts.  There’s nothing he won’t do to get Celtic what they want.  No-one he won’t attempt to control to get it”.

Quite a character assassination.  I wonder what they’re worried about?

We are also told that our chief exec has “An over-arching influence on every facet of the Scottish game. He could have had a crack at sorting it for everyone.  But no. That wouldn’t have sold any season tickets, would it?”

Those of you who bought a season ticket on the back of Peter Lawwell’s letter must feel the club went to extraordinary lengths to win your business.  The article shared the fantasy many football fans have that Peter Lawwell being on the SFA board means Peter Lawwell controls the SFA.  He doesn’t, but he is a formidable advocate of reform.

So what are they worried about?  From my perspective, pretty much everything.  The old ways were liquidated, we’re living in times with only one Super Power.  The old ways are gone and they are never coming back.

Calls for Peter Lawwell to resign from the SFA board because he “wouldn’t recognise the greater good” are laughable.  Those who interpret subtext will know this reads ‘Lawwell is an animated asker of difficult questions’.

What started five years ago with DVDs arriving at Hampden showing Robbie Keane yards onside has gotten a whole lot more serious, and personal, judging by the sustained attack on our CEO.  If you think this is about Celtic writing a letter about a referee decision a week ago you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Never try to manipulate a master of the dark arts.

This year’s CQN Golf Open will be held on Friday 24 July at Aberdour Golf Club. This is our 11th annual event and looks set to be a cracker once again. We shall be raising funds for one of our nominated charities and there will be a number of fundraising activities both on the day and in the weeks leading up to the event.

Please keep an eye open for details. Cost for the golf day is £80 including the meal at night. There are a limited number of night time places for non-golfers, cost £45.

To apply for a place, please contact cqnopen15@gmx.co.uk

I think the problem with the term ‘hun’ is the interpretation of it from the recipient. We all know it is not sectarian but I truly believe a lot of people on the end of it think that it is based on the term for Germans in WW1 and alludes to the Protestant faiths which emerged from Germany.

This is clearly wrong but informs the outrage.

We have hung our hats on the definition of racism being in the eye of the receiver so can’t cry foul now.

I would let it go; always kept us decent when Edward Ursus was on here. Says a lot to me on the word.

How about Hazel Blears spending £913 on a new TV, the second such TV in under a year on expenses – i.e. our money – and then defending the decision to jail people for knicking TV’s during the London riots.

How about Labour MP Greville Jenner.

How about taking this country into illegal wars and having the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent people on their hands.

How about Gordon Brown as PM fawning over Margaret Thatcher on her visits to Downing Street whilst he, a LABOUR, a LABOUR Prime Minister was in charge!!

How about Mandelson saying “We are intensely relaxed about people getting filthy rich,” whilst Trade and Industry Sectretary, and then the Labour Government overseeing the watering down of City regulation which led to the crash of 2008.

    1. Both the SNP and UKIP are nationalist parties. They appeal to the same instincts in people.

    2. I am not now nor have I ever been a member of the Labour party. I have no illusions about the Labour party. I vote Labour because they’re preferable to the Tories.

    3. David Milliband is a Blairite. He’s to the right of his brother. You’d prefer a more right wing Labour party?

    4. Voting SNP will not get the Tories out.

True, but if you read the English Press ( and not the Scottish version that they feed us) and watch the mainstream parties debate across the UK, they appear very agitated that Scotland is voicing their democratic viewpoint.

Time are changing and they do not like it. Interesting times ahead.

BTW Kind of hard to believe that PL could instigate a negative, vilifying article about himself while all the time coordinating a “poor me” campaign. Their politics are so incoherent it’s difficult to say.

Good, skillful and quick young player with good attitude. He has shone in our league but still drops clangers that will be costly in the EPL.

Two on Sunday, one in 1st half where he let the UTD guy drift past him into the box for a shot, and the other where missed his kick completely (bobble factor?) in front of goal, but fortunately no UTD was on hand to capitalize.

He fits the profile of what they desperately need at ManCity. Their average age is north of 30 so he will play for them next season I’m certain.

Come on you weans in green!

  22. Auldheid,

I don’t know all the ins and outs of RES 12 and I fully respect the time you devote to all things Celtic esp the administrative detail that the SFA committees hide behind.

My opinion is that there does not seem to be a sense of urgency from Celtic around RES 12. If the SFA had taken actions which had cost my business circa £20M , I would have corporate lawyers including a consultancy such as McKinsey on the case on a profit sharing basis in a given timescale. as you mentioned somewhere else you know the corporate world. That’s the way the game is played — and it delivers results. If Celtic were serious about RES 12 they would have taken it off well intentioned supporters and outsourced it to the hyenas and went for the jugular at minimal cost on a profit sharing basis.

This is just one aspect where I question Lawwells true motives.

I have the feeling that when RES 12 sees the light of day Ogilvie will be in a care home, 20 in a row will be done and the SFA will be considering video technology.

  23. Question. Despite the SNP saying that Septembers referendum was either a once in a lifetime or a once in a generation thingy wouldn’t any referendum in the near future have to have require the agreement of the UK government or it would just be like the Spanish government refusing to recognise the Catalan vote? Cameron is already on record stating there will be no further referendums on Scotland leaving the UK. Fairly sure Miliband is of the same mind despite what wee Nicola says.

So basically without the tacit approval of the Westminster government Scottish independence will not happen. As an example we can also look to Irelands experience where the overwhelming majority of voters voted for the Nationalist party and independence yet the British reaction was to arrest and detain the leaders of the Nationalist movement and shortly thereafter unleashed the Tans and Auxies on the Irish people. Not that I am suggesting that they would use such tactics in Scotland. Also fairly certain a sizable number of Scots would not countenance either an armed insurrection by the SNLA or mass civil disobedience given that a sizeable section of the Scottish population would undoubtedly vote ‘No’.
