Oscar Knox Paving Stone

1523

Last year at BMCUWP’s hootenanny in McChuills, many CQNers clubbed together and raised funds to buy something appropriate in memory of Wee Oscar. A fantastic amount was raised and we are delighted to announce a paving stone was purchased at very, very, favourable rates from Celtic, and now has its pride and place very close to the statue of Big Jock.

The tribute reads, Wee Oscar Knox, Heart of a lion, Courage of a champion.

Make sure you look out for it next time you are at Celtic Park.

  1. A WEE CHANGE FROM THE FOOTBALL, ENJOY THE CHOON…………

For everyone old enough to remember, take a couple of minutes to re-live exactly why this man’s voice will never be duplicated, we were very fortunate to have been exposed to this era. For those too young to have really seen and heard Elvis, you may roll your eyes. Once you have heard him, even at this low time of his life, you will understand.

When Elvis Presley hit the road in June 1977, he was a physical mess.

He was only 42, but years of prescription drug abuse and horrifying dietary habits left him bloated, depressed and near death. He had an enlarged heart, an enlarged intestine, hypertension, and incredibly painful bowel problems.

He was barely sleeping and should have probably been in the hospital, but he was still a huge draw on the concert circuit and the money was too good to turn down.

It had been over a year since Elvis last released a studio album, and manager Colonel Tom Parker was determined to get more product into the stores.

Despite Elvis’ horrid shape, Parker arranged for a camera crew to film the June 19th show in Omaha for a planned TV special and live album. It eventually aired on CBS two months after Elvis died, and has yet to resurface in any official capacity. This isn’t the Elvis that his estate wants the fans to remember.

Two days later, the cameras were still rolling when the tour hit Rapid City, South Dakota. It was another weak and sad night until Elvis sat down at the piano near the end to deliver a spellbinding rendition of “Unchained Melody.”

As guitarist Charlie Hodge held a microphone, Elvis dug deep and poured his heart into the song.

His body was falling apart, but his voice remained almost as powerful as ever. Without any doubt, it’s the last great moment of his career.

The tour limped along through five more shows, wrapping up June 26th at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. The show ended with “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

He died less than two months later.

My Green Brigade chum got an order for twelve of them in my work and thinks those that have been made so far will go quick going by what others in the group have told him.

I’ll speak to him on Monday and see if they have some left.

The club are missing a trick on merchandising when the likes of the Green Brigade and Boca Ten t shirts are making better designs than the official club ones.

Delaney’s, I was sent an e mail the other day with the scarf on it.

    My first reaction was wow.

South of Tunis, I read an article about Rivera trying to ban Jagger an co, it was in the mid eighties I’m sure, saying he raised a motion in the Italian parliament preventing the Rolling Stones playing in Italy.

This might not be popular with some posters but Mick Jagger is a horrible right wing, capitalist, so and so.

We saw the much missed Bobby Womack at the Concert Hall last January. He said to the audience before doing its all over now, ”m still waiting for my pay check, Mick’

PS one of Bobby’s band that night was called Charles Green
