I’m sure there are people all over England wondering why their manager is apologising for anti-IRA chants by England fans last night. Someone likely pointed out to Roy Hodgson that his fans were breaking the law in Scotland by doing so, hundreds, if not thousands, could be criminalised this morning.
Their names and addresses are known to the football authorities, the match was televised and the chanting received widespread media coverage. Police Scotland were all over the ground and had the England fans surrounded.
All this took place in front of the First Minister, whose government decided laws against bigotry and sectarianism left them unable to “equalise” fans of all colours, most of whom never chant bigoted or sectarian words.
Alex Salmond left the stage caring nothing that the police have no interest in applying his law on this occasion. It wasn’t designed to criminalise the English, it was to criminalise Celtic fans. If the Offensive Behaviour Act can be flouted in front of the nation, the police and the First Minister, without censure or action, it is an absurd nonsense. The SNP government has refused to debate a review into the Act, never mind repeal it. They are defending the indefensible.

You know what doesn’t surprise me in the least?
The fact that no one (apologies if I missed it) appears to be thinking about the following –
1. The chants of the England fans happened where they did for a reason. If it had been a Hampden match there is a good chance this would never have happened.
2. This makes a mockery of those who insist that if Celtic played in England we would not encounter anti-Irish or anti-Catholic bigotry unless you are going down the Daily Record route and insisting the Engerlund fans were actually just Sevco fans putting on an accent when they were singing (like those Chelsea or Millwall fans who used to travel the continent with actual Rangers causing all that trouble).
Never mind at least those who hate the SNP got another chance to vent.

Scotland does have an anti-Irish / anti Catholic sectarian problem. It is heavily associated with other forms of right-wing racism, bigotry and intolerance, and with Unionism and Royalism. Check the profile of most anti-Catholic or ant-Irish abusers and you’ll see connections, although I’m sure you’re aware of them already. Just how is staying in the Union helping to resolve these problems? (Never mind the much more serious problems with democracy and social justice we suffer through Westminster rule).
On the anti-Indy side you had UKIP, the BNP, Britain First and the Orange Order. They felt their agenda would be damaged by Independence.
If anyone can justify taking their side, good luck to them. I can’t.
SOAL-Last i heard of Derk ,out for 2 months,so stuck with him.Kayal,Berget,Tonev,Henderson loan maybe.Wouldn’t be surprised if Zaluska gets punted for a younger cheaper back up GK
lionroars67,
Your posts are always informative no matter what time of the day it is mate, are you going for a beer after the agm?
I hope to make it after work at one, depending on this lifting, I wouldn’t want to get slaughtered on here for being a carrier, leading to bhoys laid under for the game.
Oh and by the way, I’ve still been going to work and coughing next to as many huns as I can :))

Scotland is moving forward.
Work always to do.

Also, NegAnon2, you say “But of course you have not thought through your comment. I don’t think Westies was equating a vote for independence as a vote for the SNP…Your attempt to just put it down to the SNP misses the wider point entirely.”
We disagree on what Westies meant, and if you are changing the point to a “wider” one stating that we should stay in the UK because Scotland has a sectarian problem, then my answer remains exactly the same: It is selfish, small-minded, parochial pish.

Good night all
Zaluska and Kayal are both out of contract in June, they won`t be going anywhere in January, they`ll be sitting tight for a Bosman move in the summer.
I can understand the idea of Celtic (or any other club) taking a break in the winter. In fact, I suggest every club does it as part of a winter break to the fixtures list.
But…
Celtic taking this decision unilaterally undermines the validity of holding a season ticket.
Most of us expect home games to be played on the scheduled Saturday, and buy in accordingly. The move to Sunday fixtures due to the Europa League is unavoidable, and those of us who can’t attend on a Sunday just need to accept that stuff like that is a possibility.
However, switching the game on Saturday 10th January to a midweek, date tbd, represents the easy cynicism of revenue banked.
I’m pretty sure that, were Celtic reliant on gate income rather than season ticket sales, the game would go ahead as planned and stuff the warm weather break.
So far this season, Celtic have unilaterally postponed the season opening game v Thistle, now to be played on Wednesday 3rd December, and a game I cannot now attend.
The Europa League switch to the Sunday has caused me to miss the games v Motherwell, Hamilton and Kilmarnock, and the coming fixture v St Mirren on the 14th Dec.
Add in the game v St Johnstone on the 10th January, and that’s 6 home games scheduled for Saturdays and paid for on the season ticket, that have been rescheduled and which I will have been unable to attend from the 10 home games so far this season.
Multiply that for the 3 season tickets I have.
Seems to me, if Celtic was reliant on money paid at the gate, rather than season ticket sales, the St Johnstone game would not be considered for postponement.
Pay at the gate. It keeps the club ‘honest’.
Not the message the club’s management would wish to disseminate, I’m sure.

No that’s not what is being asked for.
These examples are being used to highlight the need for the act to be scrapped and how young Celtic supporters are being criminalised whilst other populations are not
Dont get blinkered. Not only Celtic fans lifted.Plenty of huns getting the 5AM chap at the door. The bill is bollox, but no need to play the victim card.
Hun media in a rage every week about”The weans”getting lifted
GM-I agree ,and will unreservedly apologise …..if we don’t play a ‘million pound’ bounce game in Dubai or similar.HH
TBB
Very well put, I am struggling to understand what Celtic are up too at the minute, no regard for Season Ticket holders
Yet I read on here they have over 42k season tickets.
I know I will be considering seriuosly whether or not to renew the 2 I have, my mhate who I have sat with since 1995 is in exact same boat, considering whether or not to renew, for reasons you have outlined
Hail Hail

Are there any other players out of contract in the summer. ?
the glorious balance sheet-ta,thought Kayal had another year, can see Commons getting punted as well.HH
TBB-Nail on head.
Turkeybhoy
The zombies have always been arrested at the fitba.
Before the bill was introduced they were being lifted in large number because their loutish behaviour is offensive and sectarian.
I ain’t playing the victim card but this bill was introduced with the express purpose of evening the score .
No Celtic songs are sectarian hence the reason for the offensive behaviour tag.Its the only way to paint Celtic supporters as bad as thems.
Oldco/Newco supporters have a track record forever of disgusting behaviour, we don’t , simple as that .
In the past two years,
Number of Celtic fans lifted 112
Number of hun fans lifted 144.
Its about time some people checked their facts before bumping their gums.Talking bollox.
We all know its a crap bill, but its a crap bill for everyone.
Drop the poor wee put upon crap.Sounds like the huns on their “Everyone is against us”crap.
Cowiebhoy, TBB,
I know of a few people who didn’t buy a ST because we qualified for the EL…they can’t make Sunday fixtures
That’s before they erse about with other fixtures such as the 10 th Jan

Correct …it’s not the number of fans being lifted
It’s what they’re being lifted for
It would be interesting to compare the number of successful prosecutions between the Huns and CFC fans
TBB,
Your spot on re, playing home games on a Saturday and supporters feeling fleeced by the board.
Even the hun board had the nonce to play their last game on the Saturday as with less season books being bought, they saw a market for more fans attending.
The Sunday games due to our participation in the EL has saw a big downturn on attendees.
Supporters will vote with their feet, if they feel they’re getting a raw deal and to be honest season book holders are.
Over the season it might be cheaper to buy on the day, than put a few hundred up for season books like myself and many thousands have.
I suppose it’s all down to juggling….
Turkeybhoy
number of successful prosecutions surely ???
So what is that number ?
HH
Not to mention BOGOF deals.
HH.
The act is only for people who domicile in Scotland. There is no law in England for this. The huns were delighted when they found this out.Derby got a few years worth of pent up bigotry landed on them.

That’s what I’m thinking for next season, buy match by match, there is plenty of seats available,
Sad,but fed up for reasons mentioned plus attitude of ticket office, which I have not shared on here, but some know ( and there is more to not getting seats for Europa League, when I questioned this)
Hail Hail
PS, will £100 discount be there next season, if some other mob gets there ? I will not be paying for that game either, as will not attend it
Turkeybhoy, if you think those numbers show an even handedness in the application of that law then think of the instances of sustained sectarian singing coming from all Ibroke stands, especially in some of their farewell games when their support decided to have a last hurrah. Contrast that with any instances of offensive singing you have heard at CP, where these days very few people make any noise at all. The figures merely show that the bill has done what they designed it to do, even up the numbers.
Ok Dug to take ooot :-)
The Battered Bunnet
Give me one good reason why, following a home EL match Celtic need to play the following league game on the Sunday.
The only people I have seen refer to Salmond as the granny’ sha-;:er are Clive Dunns, and now Lawellsaccountant. Is that a coincidence?
