Outgoing First Minister’s selective criminalisation

757

I’m sure there are people all over England wondering why their manager is apologising for anti-IRA chants by England fans last night.  Someone likely pointed out to Roy Hodgson that his fans were breaking the law in Scotland by doing so, hundreds, if not thousands, could be criminalised this morning.

Their names and addresses are known to the football authorities, the match was televised and the chanting received widespread media coverage.  Police Scotland were all over the ground and had the England fans surrounded.

All this took place in front of the First Minister, whose government decided laws against bigotry and sectarianism left them unable to “equalise” fans of all colours, most of whom never chant bigoted or sectarian words.

Alex Salmond left the stage caring nothing that the police have no interest in applying his law on this occasion.  It wasn’t designed to criminalise the English, it was to criminalise Celtic fans.  If the Offensive Behaviour Act can be flouted in front of the nation, the police and the First Minister, without censure or action, it is an absurd nonsense.  The SNP government has refused to debate a review into the Act, never mind repeal it.  They are defending the indefensible.

  2. Celtic have been invited back to Turkey.Same tournament as last year only extended to bring in a couple of other top teams. They were invited, but dont know if they have accepted.Spoke to a few of the players last year and they loved the facilities.

  3. See Efe has been made the major scapegoat by Nigerian fans at their failure to qualify for the Nations Cup. Think they played him at right back. Must say I feel really sorry for the guy, seems to be going through a very tough time at the moment.

And got a good result too. Brady had been a sub against Friday, took his opportunity last night.

  5. Burghbhoy,

Yep.Should hear me when I really argue.Real arguementative twat. But Celtic to the core.

    No probs mate.Hail hail.

  6. Breaking my own rules now by making a post re the Huns. Is it only me or does Brian Kennedy’s statement which I have copied & pasted only serve to reinforce just how banjaxed they are. The terms and the security demanded tells me that Kennedy was not confident he would get his money back.

“The CEO of Rangers PLC approached me on the 22nd October 2014 asking whether I would be willing to provide a short term loan to RFC Ltd. He informed me that he had been given a remit by RFC PLC to negotiate terms and to report back to the Board. My lawyers, DLA, proceeded to negotiate terms with RFC lawyers. After much discussion between the parties, the following terms were offered on Friday 24th October 2014.

1/ A £3m facility for a period of 6 months from the date of the drawdown.

    2/ 3% annual charge

3/ Fixed security charge over Albion Car Park and Edmiston House

4/ The Board of RFC would endeavour in the future to extend this to security over Murray Park as they were unable to grant such at this time.

5/ Ibrox Stadium to be protected in a Trust or a similar Legal mechanism that would allow this asset to be used solely for RFC in whatever legal entity to play football in perpetuity.

6/ Paul Murray to be appointed to the plc main board for a period of 24 months.

7/ A lightweight floating charge over all assets except Ibrox Stadium

8/ No qualifying floating charge to be granted to any other party.”

  7. corkcelt,

I think Efe has lost his way.Not the same player.Confidence seems to be shot.Shame.

In saying that,I thought he was the worst CH I have ever seen at Celtic. Not his overall play,he could not time a jump.Forever getting caught under the ball.Good footballer though.

  10. Offenbach Kickers v Celtic

Next game for our Celtic family on tour, after playing the

small German team Rheydter we were off to a place

called Offenbach Am Main near Frankfurt.

My son was hyper after the first game getting players

autographs and marching down the road with all the Celtic

fans singing and now he was badgering me…whens the

next game ?…where is it?… how long till we get there?

We were poor the first game and this was a step up and

we were told this team were very physical and had a very

troublesome support so i was a tad worried.

Met up with the London No 1 bhoy’s the Norwich and

Brighton supporters in the park and felt more at ease beside

    our own.

Sure enough the Kickers lived up to their hun like name and

their support were throwing washers and other crap through

the chicken wire fence separating the small group of Celtic

fans from them, two particular louts where pulling at the wire

as if they were trying to get at us and spitting which really set

off the London bhoy’s and when a steward opened a gate to

let another steward in four of the bhoy’s ran in to the other side

and it was hilarious, the whole crowd of them took off as if being

attacked by a full German Panzer division.

The game itself was a non event only memorable by the sight of

the London bhoy’s banner draped over a barrier on the other

of the fence and all the kickers mob gathered in a corner of their bit

of terracing screaming abuse and the bhoy’s singing their hearts

out …Hail Hail the Celts are here.

Now Borrussia Munchen Gladbach next game maybe we will lift

    our game…. maybe not.

    And the boy started already…

How long till we get there dad?….

  13. Margaret McGill,

    Here’s one for ye.

A mate of mine was walking past Central Station and, a Big Issue Seller (BIS) asked the normal…

    Mate refused then, thought (WTF)…

So goes back and says to the guy “If I can make you laugh I’ll by one.”

    Ok says the BIS,

    Mate says: “Knock KnocK?)

    BIS says “Who’s there?”

Mate say’s “Thought you feckers were homeless?”

    Is that not festive?

  14. Batmafoaby

Please desist from accusing me of parochial pish. Bullying your opponent is pathetic.

Scotland has a far bigger problem with anti Catholicism than the rest of the UK. In fact there is no discernible problem in England.

As for trying to compare me with the OO etc. well it’s just pathetic.

It’s like me saying you are just like the SNP for voting for independence.

  15. Melbourne Mick

Great stuff. Was the match v Moenchengladbach (MG) at their home ground as it seems a little bizarre to travel from Rheydt to Offenbach and then back to MG? As I used to live in Rheydt several years ago, I know that it is practically an extension of MG – in fact I may have walked home from MG to Rheydt on the odd occasion or 3 in the early hours! Them were the days…

Have you listened to or watched any of their away games? Trust me, they still sing them.

Apart from the puerile “cheer up….” dittie I can’t think of any songs currently in our songbook that are sectarian or racist. Offensive? Possibly but neither sectarian or racist. Ps who or what is the BB?

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Geordie Munro, thanks. Junior has good ideas when he puts his mind to it.

Uefa only pay attention to what their tournament sponsors want not the mugs, in their view, who go to games. That is why we have to play Europa League games on a Thursday so the major companies, stating the obvious, who sponsor the champions league get more exposure of their brand name.

All in all the ordinary fan gets a raw deal, apart from in Germany, from Uefa and the clubs.

Engagement seems to be the ‘buzz word; with big companies and organisations but it appears they use it for their own ends and as a PR stunt.

  19. HT

The ‘BB’ might be the billy boys?

Or that other semi fascistic group clad head to toe in blue, the boys brigade?

  28. Cowiebhoy

Efe’s “demise” was due to his full back berth. Physically it’s a demanding position, certainly more than centre back. And coupled with his summer, an even bigger ask.

  29. the glorious balance sheet on

The Huns and Blue Knights were up in arms at the thought of the Sevco Spivs mortgaging Murray Park.

Yet here is Brian Kennedy admitting to having offered to loan £3 million to the Spivs provided that he was granted a charge over Murray Park and also that Paul Murray was appointed to the board.
