Fortunately very few of us will have to go through what Paul McBride endured as a consequence of being a Celtic fan. Bullets and bombs in the post, with the inevitable stresses, are not part of a civilised society, but he coped without shirking. Instead of playing to the gallery, he carried an uncompromising message to some in the Celtic support, making a few more enemies but many more admirers.
His loss will be felt most by his loved ones, who are in our thoughts at this time, but without his insight, the years ahead will be poorer for us all.

Duff and Duffer were also under pressure from the Dunfermline MP, whose office is within East End Park. During a debate at Westminster last week he called the Administrators thieves for holding back the club’s money. I hope the other clubs take note.

Doesn’t matter what they paid them, on the date of the administration, all amounts that Rangers (in administration) owed were frozen. The assets will be realised and the proceeds, after the costs of the administration, will be allocated to the creditors depending on what type of creditor they are.
Dunfermline, like other teams should be an unsecured creditor which are usually the normal “trade” creditors. They rank below Preferential and Secured creditors.

Rangers’ administrators and players discuss structured cuts
Rangers players and the club’s administrators are discussing a new series of structured cuts which could result in no immediate redundancies.
The month-long proposal would mean the highest earners would take a 75% wage cut, middle-earners a 50% cut, with a 25% drop in salary for other players.
The players’ union, PFA Scotland, is aware of the proposal.
Administrators Duff & Phelps are expected to announce their cash-saving plans on Monday afternoon.
They are striving to cut £1m from the monthly running costs.
On Friday they rejected a union offer of “substantial salary deferrals”.
The firm’s David Whitehouse said wage deferrals would mean “a higher level of cost base”, hindering the club’s sale.
Meanwhile, the administrators have come to an agreement with Dunfermline to pay them the £83,000 owed for ticket sales.
Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Hearts, manager Ally McCoist explained what his role would be when the moment came to announce which players were staying and which were being made redundant.
He said: “It’s not my job, I’m not making anybody redundant, I’m not telling anybody they have lost their job.
“I won’t be in with the players but I will be waiting outside if and when it happens. My job is to support and be there, which I will be.”

Whitehouse said there was “a material level of interest” from potential buyers with best offers invited by 16 March.
Speaking before Saturday’s game, Whitehouse said: “We’ve had a very difficult week in terms of trying to work with [manager] Ally [McCoist] and the rest of the management team in looking at player cuts and redundancies.
“Those steps are ongoing and we’re very confident that they’ll be satisfactorily concluded tomorrow [Sunday].
“There’s a very clear balance that we’ve got to strike between what’s for the good of the club on the pitch and what needs to happen off the pitch as well.
“We’re obviously listening to the players, management, the SPFA and, in particular, Ally McCoist and all of those have been very co-operative and constructive in the manner in which they’ve approached it, but it basically is a very difficult subject that we’re trying to address.

“There is likely to be some job losses. We’re very hopeful that we can reach a consensual approval and agreement which can be delivered on Monday.
“Deferring wages is sustaining a higher level of cost base which we have to address to make the business saleable.
“We have said that we need to deliver £1m a month cost savings. Ultimately the decision [on who leaves] is ours.
“Ultimately, it’s a football club and we want it to perform very well on the pitch but it’s also got to survive off it.”
Duff & Phelps are pursuing the club’s owner Craig Whyte for up to £9m in money contractually promised at the time of last year’s takeover.
Lawyers acting for the administrators have gained a court order to seize a preliminary £3.6m from Whyte’s solicitors Collyer Bristow.

On potential buyers, Whitehouse said his firm hoped “to get some real progress” but admitted getting the club out of administration with signed-off accounts by the end of March was “going to be a challenge”.
The ability to meet the 31 March deadline will dictate whether Rangers can take part in European competition next season.
The SPFA insisted on Friday the “offer of wholescale wage deferrals addresses the administrators’ goal” but that the administrators had indicated they were unlikely to accept the offer.
McCoist has been told that as many as 11 players could be made redundant.
If so, it is understood that there would also be a 50% pay cut deferred until the end of the season.
Another option regarding the cost-cutting measures at Ibrox involves eight players being axed and other players taking an immediate 50% pay cut.
A third option of a 75% wage cut across the board with no redundancies was discussed on Thursday in the first formal meeting between the union and Duff and Phelps.
BBC Scotland has learned that the club’s running costs between now and the end of the season are about £10m and the administrators have highlighted the need to fill a shortfall of £4.5m by the end of the season.
Another potential source of income for Rangers would be to sell players to countries that still have their transfer windows open and discussions are ongoing with several clubs.
I am quite surprised especially here on CQN that nothing has been made of Roddy Forsyth comments about Murray brokering the Ticketus deal coupled with the fact that Ticketsus paid MIH the 24million quid.
The second loan from Ticketus for a fourth year was paid into Rangers football club account to allow them to pay the VAT on that deal as it was considered a sale and not a loan.
So no deviation from the plan. Stiff the tax man, Phoenix Rangers and parachute into the SPL.

Used to do something similar myself.
Would play 11 players up front. Opening day of the season the result was Aberdeen 22-1 Rangers. Needless to say the player who got the Rangers goal was fined 2 weeks wages for a poor performance and the players who got 1 out of 10 were given a bumper new contract at the highest limits possible.
I think i lasted 6 weeks as manager.

Just so I know what I am saying regarding rangers fc (in administration) have I missed anything out of the following, just encase I decide to put a bid in for them (I have £4 in 1p and 2ps at home!)
They owe £9.4m to the tax man for the year passed
They sold their merchandise for a set yearly fee to JJB Sports for 10 years in 2007
Sir Minty owns the catering/hospitality and car park at Greyskull and rents it back to them
They owe Ticketus £20m or have to give them the ticket revenue for the next 4 seasons including this one.
They’ve run themselves this season at a loss of £10m
They owe Hertz £1m for Wallace and other Scottish clubs a couple of hundred grand for tickets
AND THEN THERE’S THE BIG TAX BILL!

One of the things I really don’t understand with reference to Whyte’s takeover of R*****s is – if (!) he is found not to be fit and proper who gets punished? What happens to the club? If the funding to pay the bank for the £18m debt proves to have been incorrectly (God forbid this was anything beyond that!) obtained does the debt revert to Rangers?
And then what? Can anyone enlighten me?

It’s not like settling that particular bill, at the expense of others, is essential to keep the huns in business nor is it likely to be to the benefit of the general body of creditors.

Difficult to know what to say or write when you hear genuinely shocking news like the passing of Paul McBride. I’ve never felt such optimisim in Scottish football than when I heard his comments about the SFA last year, and then the MSM venting S Regan’s anger and threatening to sue him – a genuine lol moment.
However, you do move on and you read Jabba’s piece from this morning’s Rag and for me you start to think where is our legal response? We still need good people and good minds to fight the good fight. I hope there’s someone else out there like Paul McBride – you will be missed.
I fail to see why making players take a wage cut for a single month in any way goes towards addressing the major issues at that club. That is surely merely treading water.
This is truly the most bizarre administration if you are trying to save the business. If you are going for liquidation it is bang on course
The month will net D&P a rather healthy £480,000.

Bit of a harsh statement to make because some of us disagreed with his stance on the use of the word HUN and his support of what many believe to be an over the top bill and now law with regards offensive behaviour of supporters as well as what was deemed to be sectarian.
I wholly disagree with his stance on certain matters but fully supported him with regards his employment with Celtic Football Club our fight for justice with the SFA. I also admired his conviction and determination to stand up and publically address social problems surrounding football in Scotland under the threat of personal injury.
If disagreeing with Paul McBride made me an enemy then so be it.

Even if they don’t, they are under no obligation to pay them anything until all assets have been realised or until a CVA has been agreed with other creditors. If I was the administrator, I’d be paying nothing to creditors until the very end.
