Pay £4m or wait 171 days for McGinn pre-contract

1057

John McGinn is worth the £4m Hibs want for him.  If he was under contract at Celtic, we would not sell him for anything less.  But his sale price will be determined by the number of potential buyers in the market and where the player wants to move to, not his inherent utility as a football player.  These factors set his price.

I would not be surprised if Peter Lawwell had the the words “171 days” marked on a whiteboard in his office.  That’s how long he will need to wait to put a pre-contract in front of McGinn.  Having signed such a deal, the player’s value would be no more than £250k, a drop of £3.75m over the period, reducing at just shy of £22k a day.

You know Peter, it’s not going to happen.  He’ll wait.  John will wait too, and the people at Hibs will continue to murmur about Rod Petrie.  I like signing players on pre-contracts.  In the Celtic universe, it makes the world spin a little faster.

Stick at it, John.  Give Hibs your best between now and January.

I’m reluctant to touch the Kieran Tierney “story”.  By all reports, Celtic’s very firm reaction has convinced Everton to look elsewhere, but I’ll be pleased when the English Premier League transfer window closes in four weeks.  Killing a transfer is an art, not a science.

  1. Harvatski Jim – blatant dive for the first and never in a million years a penalty. Goals change games; as does a drama queen referee.

  2. MIKE IN TORONTO, was thinking the same, a country that size to reach a world cup final magnificent.

Great final, tough on Croatia, but they have every right to hold their heads high after bossing the first half and playing like tigers in the second.

The Griezeman free kick was a clear dive, mistake by the ref, but the ref wasn’t responsible for Croatia defending the free kick ridiculously deep in their own penalty box.

The pen was a pen imo. Arm and hand moving towards the ball, contact and deflected away. If that had been us attacking I’d have been spitting blood if it wasn’t given.

Hats off to France. First half they looked sluggish, got dispossessed so often yet still had the steel and the flair to see off a fine fine team.

When Deschamps took Kanté off I thought he had just handed the cup to Croatia.

Which probably explains why I’ll never be the manager of France, or anybody else!

  5. This was taken from Jim Forrest’s blog:

“Celtic refused to be bound by such an agreement. We made it clear to Liverpool that nobody at the club is guaranteed to start games and we were not going to make an exception for one of their footballers.”

Reminds me of a player big Jock coveted who he had at Hibs, he made a bid, it was accepted, but the player wanted to be a first team choice for every game, the Big Mhan turned him down quoting much what Brendan said that no one is a first choice with Celtic, you have to earn it.

  6. BMCUWP, sorry if I missed it last week but did you ask your dad a good pub in Salou to watch the game on Wednesday? Or anyone else any tips on a Celtic minded pub for me, Mrs David 66 and Grandson David 66 funny enough aged 6.

Delighted for France, since Platini, Titans, Giresse etc, I’ve always had a soft spot for them. I was also waiting on them for a right few quid. I was given Christmas presents for France to win and put some extra on myself, I laid off a bit on Crotia but I’m delighted.

The pen, my honest opinion, if that was Celtic, I would be screaming for it all day long. However if awarded against us, I would be moaning. The craziest bit about it, was the ref had awarded a goal kick.

I thought the ref was poor and gave a few dodgy decisions to both sides, softly booked 2 French players, but allowed Croatia player, Jersey pull back which should have been automatic yellow. Never a free kick for Griezman.

I think France won, despite Deschamps negativity.

Croatia played well and just never got the breaks on the day.

    Hail Hail

What are the blog’s thoughtf on the new pitch ?

It’s being reported that it cost £1,500,00.00 and it’s a hybrid. Now I know that’s a lot of money but these genetically modified things concern me. Are they safe ?

There’s a real case to answer on the sporting advantage this will give to Celtic ? Not just because the other club’s will be playing on something they aren’t used to but, but how will club’s developing a hoof-ball style be expected to get the ball up in the air ?

VAR should not be viewed in slow motion, every handball looks a penalty, watch it in real time, the pen France got was 50/50 for me, if VAR is getting used , Greizmann dived for the FK for the 1st goal, and should have been booked

  19. Who would win between,……

    The Masonic SFA ?

    Or,

    The Masonic Vatican ?

A year, or is it two years, after a 5-0 doing in the supreme court, and not as much as a slap on the wrist for Sevco / Rangers.

Who “really” won the war ?

Are the losers of the war, queuing up to pay to perpetuate a lie / myth ?
