Pay £4m or wait 171 days for McGinn pre-contract

1057

John McGinn is worth the £4m Hibs want for him.  If he was under contract at Celtic, we would not sell him for anything less.  But his sale price will be determined by the number of potential buyers in the market and where the player wants to move to, not his inherent utility as a football player.  These factors set his price.

I would not be surprised if Peter Lawwell had the the words “171 days” marked on a whiteboard in his office.  That’s how long he will need to wait to put a pre-contract in front of McGinn.  Having signed such a deal, the player’s value would be no more than £250k, a drop of £3.75m over the period, reducing at just shy of £22k a day.

You know Peter, it’s not going to happen.  He’ll wait.  John will wait too, and the people at Hibs will continue to murmur about Rod Petrie.  I like signing players on pre-contracts.  In the Celtic universe, it makes the world spin a little faster.

Stick at it, John.  Give Hibs your best between now and January.

I’m reluctant to touch the Kieran Tierney “story”.  By all reports, Celtic’s very firm reaction has convinced Everton to look elsewhere, but I’ll be pleased when the English Premier League transfer window closes in four weeks.  Killing a transfer is an art, not a science.

Professionals are paid to do a job, the French player’s

are doing precisely that…. so far…..hope Celtic player’s

do the same in the coming season.

I agree that to remove the whiff of corruption any hand ball in box should be a penalty.

Unfortunately the insidious side effects of tv and the ad money it generates has refs understanding the preferences of the organizers.

Even VAR is still at the mercy of refs.

  3. A pen or not, goals change games and if the ref had used the VAR for the foul that never was, it prob wouldn’t be 2-1 to France, the people in the refs ear should have told him to book Griezman and not award the foul.

  4. Croatia have been in complete dominance playing great football and yet are behind in the game.

Yip, it’s the only reason I would change the rule.

It’s painfully obvious to me that France have to win this, all of the officials will be on board.

By the way I took my grandson to Huntershill pitches in auchenairn in glasgow for a tournament a few weeks ago and it was 4G I think, it was an amazing surface.

*my wee team over here plays on 4G, then we go out of town its grass and that becomes a lottery as the deeper into summer we go the harder and bumpier is the ground.

  7. I am with Roy Keane – ‘ The Ref is an Idiot, probably never played football in his life’. Croatia the better team but being undone by a shite poor ref. 2 very dodgy decisions have cost them.

  8. If the rule is changed to allow any handball to be a penalty then you’ll get players deliberately kicking the ball against a hand to win one anytime they get into the opposition box. It’ll be another cheat opportunity.

Not the most exciting French team … but they play like Deschamps played … no flash, but organized and disciplined and effective …

As a neutral, I wish he would unleash his players, as it would be more fun to watch, but he is here to win, so he will do what he thinks will give him the best chance … and Croatia are huffing, but not really breaking France down (Pogba is giving a masterclass in how to play that defensive midfield role .. not flashy, but quietly effective).

It is up to Croatia and their coach to up their tempo and find a way through

  10. Tontine Tim. My point was just that the artificial pitch has came a long way since its inception.

We still should not have them in top leagues though. IMO

    Hail Hail

  11. That was a goal worthy of a World cup final.

Pogba is an excellent player stifled by two cautious managers.

Not exciting football from France .. but you have to give them credit where it is due …

Their players are ridiculously talented individually, but instead of playing like a bunch of stars, they seem to have bought into Deschamps system, and are all playing for the team and for a common goal.

In the age of spoiled brat stars, there is something to be admired about that.

  13. Games a bogey.

    Class always shines through.

Croatia done well to get to the final.

  14. how’s everyone doing today?

so good to be watching a really good world cup final. feel sorry for Croatia who I think have been excellent but it’s all gone against them, including dodgy decisions by ref and now France are turning on the style just as i type, that’s a great strike from mbappe.

    well done France

  15. Mbappe silences doubters with great strike. 4-1

He might even be better than Arry Kane.

  16. Dearie me ‘Whits the keeper dein’ tom? Whits the keeper? Croatia pull 1 back. Disaster for the French goalie

  17. Great game for neutrals.

Croatia are a little to side to side to be truly effective.

They tend to go cross field slowly and allow France to set up two defensive banks to deal with the inevitable cross.

On the last Perisic cross France had six in the box plus goalie to deal with two Croatians.

They need to start shooting from the middle.
