Penalty box possession and shots from outside the area

543

You thought St Mirren were a hard watch?  Livingston won three and drew three of their last six games but did not manage the majority of possession in any of those outings.  Incredibly, they beat Dundee (by four goals), Dundee United and Aberdeen with an average of 39% possession.

If they dug in against the team at the bottom of the league, they will only leave their defensive third to have a shot on goal against the league leaders on Sunday (expect them to shoot on sight).

There will be no surprises.  High crosses into the box will be successfully defended.  There will be no space in front of goal, marking will be skintight, the defensive line will be straight.  The pitch will be terrible, passing and control will be difficult – if you have a ticket, please be forgiving.

If you needed a reason to be concerned more than Celtic’s historical results against Livi, their recent form is impressive.  Livingston have collected the joint second highest points total from their last five games, just two behind Celtic.

The first objective will be to get possession inside their box.  We have the players to make any defender nervous at making a rash challenge with a penalty on the line.  Shots from the edge of the area will be important.  A ricochet did us no harm against St Mirren, against a packed defence, another is very possible.

Teams who win leagues win games like this.  Three points for Celtic here will go a long way to achieving that objective.

I can’t believe we have Celtic supporters saying they’d take a draw now from our visit to Livingston.

agree, cant be a proper Celtic supporter whoever it is.

    —-

So what is “a proper Celtic supporter”?

I look for a win on Sunday, every Celtic supporter does, but if some, bearing in mind that Livingston have inflicted more damage on us than any other team in the league, would settle for a draw rather than a defeat, why is that any reason to make an ‘off the cuff’ jibe on their Celtic credentials?

No one with any football knowledge & being aware of our record against Livingston, would be confident of any outcome on Sunday.

If we had managed a draw the last time we were there and scored a last-minute penalty at Celtic Park against them – we would now be six points ahead in the title-race.

I don’t know why they cause us so much trouble, nor, do I think do the majority of Celtic fans – having an opinion on an important game has absolutely nothing to do with being “proper Celtic supporter”……zilch!!!

A bully telling others what to do (a cult?).

  3. On Sunday, I would like to see the 2 Centre halfs get the ball forward quicker.

Instead of continually passing to each other , for a couple of minutes, allowing the opposition to get everyone behind the ball.

  4. Scully

I have no respect for any but- that’s a cheap shot – Putin is committing genocide.

  5. how long do you think the centre halfs keep the ball between each other ? its seconds not minutues, and there needs to be a pass open to make.

CCV 40 yard plus passes are very very accurate.

Starfelt was annoyed often that the choice he had to make was a sideways or out wide pass, he needed other options,

    but hey, we won.

more of the same on sunday please,

give nothing away, and win the game.

I saw Shane Warne in action twice at the Gabba in Brisbane v England for the Ashes.

Great entertainment and worth the entrance money alone.

  7. Livi, that name seems to be cropping up on a regular basis in recent weeks, a football team being described as some kind of defensive monster capable of casting some kind of magic spell on Celtic. In that scenario and with that expectation from their fans, this is possibly putting an extra pressure on their players.

After that win on Wednesday night I think Celtic may have got over the hump and with the better weather and better playing conditions we will see the Hoops at their best. Kyogo and David T, we need the pair of you back ASAP.

Gene depends who you believe obviously you believe the people who brought us yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria.

me I believe the military junta that tried to enforce their will on the people of Donbass and spent the last 8 years at war with them was deliberately silenced by the people you implicitly trust to be telling you the truth.

Free speach except for Russian speakers eh

  9. For Saturday keep the number of touches down move the ball quicker , I’d attack these big shower of oafs , straight down the middle …. Ball up to CF come short , back and just keep shooting … we need to play the ball to a guy who is tightly marked …. Wings will be blocked off

Big GG will get nothing of the ref so longer balls playing for a free kick is a non starter , Scottish ref logic if your paid more you can put up with being fouled ….

Anyroadup, that’s my opinion on the war, out of here, seems people never learn

Starfelt seemed a bit more adventurous on Wednesday night I thought, he moves the ball quick and mostly with precision. It’s all about confidence for players not helped by over the top hysteria from some in the crowd.

    Back the team.

  12. Shane Warne

My all time number one sporting hero.

A hero I had the good fortune to spend some time with.

He transformed the game I love.

He lived more in 52 years than most do in 52 lives.

He loved St Andrews, as many do, but he spent at least a week here every year and often more.

He even proposed to Liz Hurley here !

He was a world class poker player and top golfer.

He had good associations with our club as a friend of the Ross Desmond, Dafabet connection and most importantly he was a good friend of Ange’s.

I had hoped that this year we might get him down to Glasgow’s East End to experience a real sporting atmosphere to eclipse the MCG at the Boxing Day test…..

Sadly it was not to be only hours after he tweeted his condolences for Rod Marsh’s family……….it was the other Paradise to be this legends destination….

    Shane Warne RIP

  13. Ha, just logged in and seen that the Canman was posting, great to read you again big mhan, I agree with you 100% re the narrative, mass psychosis has taken over again, the UK Column news today is quite informative and impartial.

  14. 1 game at a Time, Sweet Celtic.

Its mad getting excited about getting a corner these Davie Hays…. I dinnae get excited at all now.

I’d always have 1 there for a short corner to take 2 out however.

Giakoumakis will sort out the Livi cloggers. A few decent high and low balls in from the wings will do nicely.

    ………………………..

We need to know when to deliver a ball High or Low. Josip was raging with himself (sitting in 401) and it was so easy for me, as spectator, to say low.

    Josip is OhMega for Celtic.

  17. Livingston? I loathe Lothian.

Hard shots from outside the box, Nir Bitton to bag one.

    Aye, thats a good shout.

I’d rather Tone was in the team when playing Agricultural Scottish teams.

The Big strong man has been exceptional for Celtic and he will continue to be.

  19. !!Bada Bing!! on

Not too clever to have the Wummans team playing at Celtic Park on the 26th, the pitch isn’t great just now….

  20. clyde is hilarious again tonight.

i am not suggesting that the spfl by bring forward that old-firm match but the fact is, celtic benefited the most, and thats the fact,

The King thing really is the tip of the iceberg I reckon.

    It’s all begining to unravel.

We win on Sunday and I reckon that’s it.

  22. Looks like, though it hasn’t been confirmed, that our Scottish contingent, (Tony, Greg, CalMac and Jamesie could have been involved) will get a break from International football later on this month if FIFA suspends Scotland – Ukraine on the 24 March, and ruling out any follow up qualifying match. Japan-Australia match still goes ahead, Sweden playing too if Carl is in their squad and Croatia are playing friendlies.

Don’t feel bad for the SFA, sold out the Ukraine match Monday, money’s in the bank. Kerching!

    _____

Agreed. Let’s try something radical like a simple get the ball to the byline and a low ball cut back. Worked wonders for the buzz bomb.
