Penalty box possession and shots from outside the area

543

You thought St Mirren were a hard watch?  Livingston won three and drew three of their last six games but did not manage the majority of possession in any of those outings.  Incredibly, they beat Dundee (by four goals), Dundee United and Aberdeen with an average of 39% possession.

If they dug in against the team at the bottom of the league, they will only leave their defensive third to have a shot on goal against the league leaders on Sunday (expect them to shoot on sight).

There will be no surprises.  High crosses into the box will be successfully defended.  There will be no space in front of goal, marking will be skintight, the defensive line will be straight.  The pitch will be terrible, passing and control will be difficult – if you have a ticket, please be forgiving.

If you needed a reason to be concerned more than Celtic’s historical results against Livi, their recent form is impressive.  Livingston have collected the joint second highest points total from their last five games, just two behind Celtic.

The first objective will be to get possession inside their box.  We have the players to make any defender nervous at making a rash challenge with a penalty on the line.  Shots from the edge of the area will be important.  A ricochet did us no harm against St Mirren, against a packed defence, another is very possible.

Teams who win leagues win games like this.  Three points for Celtic here will go a long way to achieving that objective.

Good morning from a sunny Village.

Got a late night text confirming I have a ticket for tomorrow. A wee short trip for the east coast Tims.

Fingets crossed for another slip-up by the Ibrox mob this afternoon. But whatever happens there, just do it Celtic. 1-0 with a last minute penalty will suffice, if that’s the way it has to be, though not sure my heart will relish it.

    3 points. Nothing less.

    Hail Hail.

Guy on the radio just said Rangers will go back to the top of the league if they beat Aberdeen this afternoon.

He must have forgotten to mention they would need to win by 10-0.

As others have pointed out, the pain of summa the media pack is evident in their questions to Greg Taylor:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO4RXbF_wQI

In what other league in the world would a team in the middle of a total squad rebuild and resurgence under a “no name, no-mark Boss” (remember those terms eh?) – having overturned their city rivals league position – be baited and provoked about below-par performances. Rather than praised for attitude, coherence and grit.

    Question for hun media types;

How horrific must your fave team’s fall from grace be, that a team you say is playing poorly can still sit atop the table while grinding out wins with a squad full of relative strangers. And with no world-conquering Juventus stars in the in their midst either ??

  7. My friends in Celtic,

Plastic pitch or no plastic pitch we have the talent to beat Livingston tomorrow. To contemplate anything else is not the aspiration of league winners. Not being disrespectful or complacent it is Livingston we are playing .

    It’s not :-

However a warning : Lincoln Red Imps. Hard work bears talent when talent doesn’t work as hard.

  8. I wonder if someone at the club is taking note of the bookings accrued so far . McGregor , rogic and carter vickers seem to be getting bookings pretty regular and must be nearing a suspension in time to play them . Unless it’s my mind working overtime I bet the referee bosses will have it sussed .

Last time I witnessed a win there , Henrik was playing

  11. I heard that its 10 Yellows now before a suspension, but that might be England.Anyone know.

    Livi 1 Celtic 0

    Our last domestic defeat.

We had a team that day which included Welsh, Boli, McCarthy and Ajeti. Soro, MJ and Bitton came on as subs.

We’ll be much stronger tomorrow. I wouldn’t play Bitton because it’ll be like playing McCarthy last September- these lads have their place but not in a game where we want to start and maintain a high pace.

Go for tried and trusted, play our football and we’ll win. No excuses, Celtic.

Oh and no silly free kicks given away either. We’ll be fine.

SPFL website says it’s six bookings for a one game suspension. Of the players you mentioned McGregor is currently on four yellows, CCV is on two and the big gallus Aussie is on three. Those are just league bookings, each of them has a higher total across all competitions. Perhaps more surprising than all that is we are the least booked team in the league thus far with a total of thirty five.

More plastic.Watched the Womens game on it a few times.Shocking surface.

  19. In Ange`s Press Conference yesterday, he alluded to the level Celtic were at in the two previous Livi games. He feels that we are much better now. I think this should be considered when worrying about the game against our `bogey` team tomorrow..

  20. It’s coming home! Euro 2028 is set to be held in the UK and Ireland with the joint-hosts submitting an unopposed bid after rivals Turkey and Russia dropped out of the running

The UK and Ireland are set to be the hosts of the 2028 European Championships

It is understood that their bid will be unopposed with Turkey likely to withdraw

The FAs only announced their intention to bid for the tournament last month

Initially they planned for an ambitious campaign to land the 2030 World Cup

    Genocide?

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights figures on civilian casualties in Ukraine – 249 deaths in the first week – are so far are about the same as the number of Iraqi dead in the first ten minutes of the US/UK invasion of Iraq.

Of course one death is already too many and the death toll will no doubt rise.

Given the news sources you rely on, you may not be aware that over the last seven years (since the Minsk accords that Ukraine has violated) Ukraine has killed about 5,000 civilians in the separatist Donetsk and Luhansk regions (90% Russian speakers). There is a monument to all the dead children in these regions. Did you get angry about this?

I think Russia is right to protect the population of the separatist regions but wrong to try to bring about regime change in Kiev, however much the Ukrainian government is infested with neo-Nazis and however worried Russia is about NATO’s eastward expansion. It is creating a refugee crisis and lasting bitterness.

After the Ukrainians tired of the oligarch Poroshenko the current president was elected after he promised a policy of peace and autonomy for the separatist regions. He broke his promises of course, or was not allowed to keep them by the American “advisers” who run the country.

The war could end immediately on two conditions: Ukrainian neutrality (no membership of NATO) – doesn’t Russia, surrounded by US military bases, have legitimate security interests? – and autonomy for the separatist regions. But NATO wants to prolong the war, which is why they are sending more weapons.

NATO bombed Belgrade (killing civilians) to support the breakaway of Kosovo from Serbia. But Kosovo is good, while the breakaway regions of Ukraine presumably are not.

While Russia is waging war in Ukraine, the US is bombing Somalia, Israel is bombing Syria (on top of its almost daily killing of Palestinian children and the demolition of Palestinians’ homes), and Saudi Arabia (armed by US and UK) is bombing Yemen (UN figures as of 2020, and still rising: death toll of nearly a quarter of a million). Of course there is no outrage, no mention of this, in our MSM. It couldn’t have anything to do with skin colour, could it?

On a Celtic note and another example of hypocrisy: the bureaucrats of FIFA and UEFA are very happy to see players holding Ukrainian flags aloft. Celtic are always fined when supporters show Palestinian flags. Keep politics out of sport, eh?
