Pin it to the dressing room wall

Straight from the off on Saturday you knew this would be a more accomplished Celtic performance than our last league outing against Dundee. Brown and Bitton in central mid, with Charlie Mulgrew partnering Erik Sviatchenko in central defence.

Charlie is at the back end of his career but you know you are getting a seasoned SPL pro, who is going to clear his lines, attack the ball, and not try to be Beckenbauer (i.e. he’d rather not attempt a 20 yard pass than risk misplacing one).  I’ve liked the look of Erik since he’s arrived, our clean sheet count has improved immeasurably, but the Dane was culpable at the Thistle penalty. He was turned, then put his arm around his opponent’s waist. A nailed-on penalty which could have cost us in different circumstances.

I loved Kilmarnock striker Josh Magennis’ comments after his teams’ defeat at Pittodrie: “We can do Aberdeen a favour next week by beating Celtic, we haven’t lost in our two games against them this season.”

Pin it to the dressing room wall at Lennoxtown, Ronny.  We battered Kilmarnock last time out, creating 20 attempts but couldn’t convert, and we let them off the hook earlier in the season at Rugby Park by conceding a late penalty.  No mistakes this time.

  1. BMCUWP@5:55 – No I don’t want the lion’s share of gates at away games – I want local fans to buy the lions-share and support their club – perhaps restrict away fans allocation to 3,000 (Sevco excepted)

GARY67@5:56 – Your knee-jerk unconsidered answer of Greed just doesn’t stand up.

In my post I suggested a change to the TV/prize money – this could offset part of the fall in revenue for smaller clubs.

My suggestion is to use a market solution to encourage home supporters to turn up and reduce the cost of attending football for EVERYONE.

Smaller clubs could also use the season-book voucher, perhaps pricing away games at a discount, to encourage more to travel – their season book sales could also benefit with the inclusion of the voucher.

Celtic and the bigger clubs would forfeit income from away fans and some of their TV/prize money income.

The downside financially for the smaller clubs would be around £100k per season – this could be offset by keeping away games money, say 1200 fans @£20 (x2 games)= £48k, an increase in season tickets and as I have said, a re-adjustment in TV money distribution.

The overall effect could be financially neutral for the smaller clubs, will control football pricing and hopefully boost crowds.

much rather Celtic by way of thanks rewarded their home support by coming out and stating that were will be no increase in the prices of next years season tickets. As it stands Celtic discounting away tickets may benefit Kilmarnock financially , especially if Celtic are receiving an increased allocation which they may find hard to shift if a discount wasn’t offered. I imagine that Kilmarnock will be receiving full face value of all tickets sold by Celtic

How are chickenshit football club getting on with the letter of complaint to uefa in line with resolution 12 ?

Sitting at the back of the bus with their abacus ( drinking minestrone ) … counting how much they will make when the zombies come into the spfl and they bump up the price of a season ticket accordingly

  5. Never a penalty. Thought Jackson Irvine had a good game yesterday for ROss County in the cu final. I have always rated him & felt we should ave kept him ossib putting him out on loan bas he s a box to box midfielder big & strong & we do not have that typ of aye even with our squad of 30 midfielders

You said it, – we do indeed have consistency.

It’s so consistent we have intelligent Celtic supporters buying it.

Completely agree. I’ve heard that the ticket uptake for Saturday has been extremely slow and this initiative would support that.

Nevertheless it’s a sensible thing Celtic have done.

  8. I read this in that evening shark jump article on fascist police state scotland watching on line ahem old firm fans ahead of the next mass anti catholic racist fest.

“The majority want to go along in a safe, family-friendly environment, enjoy the football and go home safely. We’re there to facilitate that.

A safe family friendly environment. Yes thats right all the family can join in as they sing about being up to their knees in fenian bllod or telling irish descendents the fami e is over and they should go home.

Good old family fun in scotland eh! Aint it great.

Oh and for the fascists monitoring the site no doubt you will be joining in and arrestung a few ieish carholics for singing irish sings or maybye a wee sign of the cross done a little too aggressively.

It’s difficult to know where to start with that leader .. But here goes!

First pass was offside and the challenge was not an impedement to the striker – that is a problem for another day -but it was, by any reasonable standard of refereeing, not a penalty!

The standard on the day allowed for that challenge and more…

The lack of pace in that central defence pairing, particularly Charlie, will see us toasted by any pair of medium paced strikers on the move to the right ball.

Play either if those guys at CH we need Efe’s pace as cover. ( yes, I know!!)

Broony is a disappearing act and noticed you refrained from usual endorsement of Kris.

Ronny is being bullied into playing the old guard to keep folk happy.

The truth is their collective lack of application is stifling the performance.

I’m beginning to think you are having laugh in some of these reports!

The Fir Park prices are a joke.

I bought my daughter a ticket, she’s 12. If I’d bought it for the main stand I’d have got it for nothing but because we want to sit in the south stand, behind the goal, I’ve had to pay £14 for it.

  11. Mount low Tim and Srarry Plough. Condolences on you loss.

    Paul, well said and balanced.

Erick should be told to keeps his hands down, could have cost us dearly. Went from cruise control to panic attack, absolutely needlessly.

Thanks for posting that wonderful compilation. I am privileged to be of an age where I saw Jinky play many times.

I was struck by the number of challenges on him which would have been straight reds nowadays, but not back then.

Sometimes it took him a wee bit of time to get up again, but usually he bounced straight back up to torment them again, no rolling about, no histrionics, no waving imaginary cards.

Ah the old Celtic PLC businessmen, try to forestall a boycott on Kilmarnock by Celtic fans.

Yeah, the board are rewarding the away support.

    Fecking hilarious.

    Slapstick.

    Celtic run by clowns.

Because they know that once fans start boycotting because of the obscene prices, they wont get away with charging top dollar for a rigged league.

If the board give the huns carte-blanch to cheat….its all over.

    Finito.
