Positioning, decision making and set plays. Compper and Ajer are prepped

195

After giving his players a week of rest and recuperation Brendan Rodgers will have his best opportunity of the season to work on tactics and systems this week. We watched our passing game disintegrate in recent months culminating in the reversal at Tynecastle.

The manager can talk to his players for hours, but time on the training field is limited with rest days, game days and recovery days. Any tactical work also needs to be balanced with the need to maintain endurance and speed training.

The squad are together in Dubai and will put hours into working on positioning, decision making and set plays. For me, the critical outcome of this winter break will be in central defence. This area of the field is pivotal to what the manager wants to achieve in possession. Our central defenders are also subject to more transfer speculation than anywhere else in the team, a fact which may have contributed to recent decline in performances.

I have not watched Marvin Compper (try to avoid highly selective YouTube videos) but suspect Brendan could end the month with his new German recruit partnering Kris Ajer.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

DTANdzpWkAAjWV3.jpg-large

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  3. BMCUWP,

Cheers mate for the horse trainers stats since December.

Nicky Henderson on 42 % strike rate is very impressive although it could be better as I know from experience recently that he has had a few 2nd places etc ?

Also IF his 1/6 shot on Sunday had won then the strike rate would be higher LOL.

Some years ago Henderson had a horse running in deep mud at Perth in its 1st run that season. It was priced at 1/14 ON. I remember it was a grey horse and got done just before the line, due to the heavy ground and a wee bit lack of fitness etc. Obviously I didn’t back it at those odds.

Back in the 1980’s I remember a horse priced at 1/20 ON ( Not Hendersons)…getting beat by the 20/1 2nd Favourite in a small race. That’s the worst in terms of odds on shots being beaten that I can remember ?

In the stats that you posted it is worth keeping an eye on the Philip Hobbs stable also. Last Saturday he had his 1st winner on the day and the tv guy said that it was his 1st winner for some time.

I have often backed Hobbs stable over the years also. I am away to have another look at todays racing to see if he has any runners ?

    HH mate.

Back in the ’80s-I think!-Cock o’ the North Eddie Hide was on a 33/1 on shot at Ayr.

    Gubbed.

My Dad will confirm this if he reads it. At that price, btw,I reckon the bookies took a kicking-as nobody could have backed it.

(Though Tote rules would have guaranteed a minimum payout there of 1/10)

Nicky Richards has been consistently near the top of that table since late November. He’d have done a lot better but for me jinxing a couple of them(!)

  6. BMCUWP,

In the link about trainers that you posted it made mention of Philip Hobbs stable coming back to form last Saturday with 3 winners etc.

Good luck wi the Hendo horses. I’m off to Hammer Hobbs.

PS-just phoned my parents there as they are “jetting out” to the sun in a day or two. My Dad reckons that race may have been at Bogside.

Well, there’s one for the oul’ yins!!!

  12. I have seen more inflammatory articles in the MSSM than the one posted by BIG JIMMY at 7:17 but that one was terrible.

It was like a mother consoling her child by pretending bad things never happen. Truly dreadful `reporting`and an embarrassment to the journalist who was, presumably told what to write.

I agree. It’s kind of impossible to dismiss any claims out of hand because that’s exactly what a lot of people did in 2012 and look how that turned out.

Where I see differences this time is there doesn’t appear to be any gain from them doing it or plan for what happens next. When I think back to 2012 the plan was always to start again (see P67 prepack article) to rid themselves of the HMRC issue. This time all the debt appears to be local and even MASH has been paid up so it does read like wishful thinking to me.

The Big Seventy today and funnily enough I don’t feel a day older than when I was 69.

Most important thing I am still an unrepentant Fenian Bassa.

I also share a Birthday with the much younger & more handsome Legend ACGR.

So can I join in the Birthday Greetings by wishing ACGR a very Happy Birthday.

Although cold here today, there is a beautiful azure sky and bright sunshine reflecting off of the blanket of snow on the ground. Picturesque indeed…

  20. Tory Minister for ” N.Ireland” has stepped down due to health reasons, he is to undergo a lung operation.

ill bet that this Tory Chump DIDN’T have his operation postponed at any time ….unlike the other 55,000 NHS Patients in England who have had their operations postponed due to Tory health cuts ?

Another Tory Minister Toby Young ( I don’t know the whole story ) who was DEFENDED by PM May just two days ago on the Andrew Marr show, has now resigned ?

He has apparently made several disgusting comments in recent months, one of which was about SCHOOLS having wheelchair access !

Another comment I believe he made was about getting the Homeless “HIDDEN…and OFF THE STREETS” on the day of Harrys wedding !

    Nazi bassa !

  24. God help us….That Tory loud mouth Tory Bitch ESTHER McVEY is now the Minister for WORKS and PENSIONS !

Now she is a real Tory SCUMBAG !

    She hates the working classes.

  25. HORSES Today,

All 4 of Hendersons horses are being backed this morning and are at lower prices. Sometimes on a day like today ( a slow Tuesday) the prices can be affected by very little money when its a quiet racing day /

2 out of 3 Hobbs horses also being backed, as their price has dropped slightly also.

    HH

  26. Esther McVey will ensure the needy and the poorest in Society will suffer even more now that she is in place in the Cabinet…this is yet another example of a Tory being rewarded for FAILURE at the Ballot Box !

I often wonder what disabled relations of ANY Tory Minister in charge of Works and Pensions, Social Care etc etc actually think of these SCUMBAG relations ?
