Profitable Celtic accounts last year despite revenue dip

1143

Celtic released their financial results for the year to 30 June 2014 this afternoon.  The club remained profitable to the tune of £11.17m (2013: £9.74m) despite a 14$ drop in revenue to £64.74m.  The net cash position at the end of the year was hardly changed from the previous year at £3.83m.

Football and stadium revenue was down £4.4m, which correlates almost exactly to the £100 reduction in season ticket process for around 40,000 seats, but the biggest hit was to Multimedia and Commercial Activities, which were down £5.21m.  The bulk of this fall will be explained by finishing fourth in the Champions League group stage, instead of processing to the knock out stage, as we did in season 2012-13.

Celtic opened a new borrowing facility with the Co-op Bank two weeks ago to replace their existing facilities.  The club have a £6m overdraft (at base plus 1%) and £14.4m of long-term loans.

This high watermark will not be reached this season as revenue will struggle to reach £55m but it’s clear the club can support the current cost structure without needing to pair back.  The project for now is to get revenue back over £70 next season, and for that we’ll need to be better prepared come Champions League qualification time.

“If they were not politicians they would tell OO and others of its ilk to stuff their votes.”

Like the Yes campaign told Souter & McColl to stuff their campaign funding??

Like the Labour Supporters and Independents in the Yes Campaign told Harvie to stuff his RC school closure programme, or told Christine Graham to rule by law and not by numbers, or told Alex to find those stats on sectarian offences he had “lost” or he can get stuffed too?

Or are these the minor details we can work out later once there has been a big Yes? Sleepwalking in the same way that the huns did with Whyte and Green.

I think both of those posters have quite valid concerns when you take into account the fact that the Orange Order are allowed to organise and practice within the UK Houses of Parliament with members drawn from both the House of Commons and House of Lords.

That gives the firm impression that anti-Catholicism is tolerated and facilitated by Westminster.

About 15 years ago I was watching the Celts destroy the jam farts at Tynecastle. Me and my mate arrived 30mins early and were sat right next to the hearts fans. A wee scrawny mambo came down and sat at the opposite side of the divide/fence from us. He started making gestures about bankers etc to us which we found amusing. Then he got out a piece of A4 paper and started writing something. We were wondering what he was doing when he started gesturing to us again and pointing to the paper where he had written h.i.v.! He took great enjoyment out of pointing at the paper and then at us (we were pissing ourselves laughing). Then he raised his middle finger at us. The weird thing was that he kept the middle finger up with his hand directed at us for the whole game! Every few minutes he’d look towards us and get a wee bit animated showing the finger, then he’d return to watching the game, all the time giving us the finger. Totally bizarre!

The one political organisation in Scotland that tried to stand up to the OO and reduce the number of parades was Glasgow Labour Party. For it’s pains, it got a kicking in the Scottish Courts and they were ordered to back down.

Not one word was raised against them by a prominent Yes politician, neither Salmond nor Harvie nor Sturgeon nor McAskill nor Swinney. I cannot conclude that they are in favour, not bothered by, or mildly opposed to the organisation. So I will not make the attribution that you and your crew make most freely.

What I can conclude with some certainty is that they chose to prioritise a campaign against football fans while this problem went unaddressed by them.

Now, I am told, the Labour guys and leftists that think they have formed some entryist movement into the SNP’s Yes campaign are going to hold the SNP guys to account on this and other matters once we get rid of Westminster politics. I think you’ll have as much success and numbers in that fight as you will in Jim Sillars vs The Oil Companies.

I will place my trust in starting a Home Rule for Glasgow movement as there are some politicians there with a track record of attempting to fight them
