Protests because of Celtic

189

According to their manager, Newco are doing just fine, better then fine, in fact, it’s just that Celtic are fabulous (my interpretation, not a direct quote).

He spoke in response to fan protests at their game against Kilmarnock.  Apparently, after “55” (cough) they took their eye off the ball.

Mick Beale has a point. Celtic are fabulous, Newco win their first Scottish Cup and reached a European final; overachieving by any measure. But fans cannot be placated when losing.

It’s easy to see the folly in others. The Newco board are far from the worst option the club has. Change may not be their friend. There are zero options for stopping Celtic short of another random season. This is due future fans need to get on board or there will be a lot of banners. Protests because of Celtic could become a regular fixture.

  2. Guys,

As previously stated we all have our own ideas about enlarging the standing section and in general the upgrading of Parkhead ( Celtic Park )

I welcomed MM’s input into redevelopment. It may have been aspirational ( some may say pie in the sky ) but at least he detailed his thoughts.

MATT also spoke of having more Goal scoring chances as the opposition are a bit tired ?

The fact you categorised women with children families and the elderly, suggested they were in a different group to men. If that’s not what you meant, fair enough. What membership of the GB has got to do with it, I’ve no idea. There are women in their section, no idea if they are members of the GB. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be barred from membership because they are women.

why have they less money than us ?

if they went bankrupt, don’t they start again?

Season tickets are less but they have had 2 long runs in the EL. Their contracts and merchandising are a mess –does that explain it all or are we just run well!genuinely clueless about all this stuff but it’s clear that someone there is limiting their spend.

    ====

One possibility is the new FSR regulations. Financial Sustainability Regulations that have replaced FFP this current licensing round.

Celtic made a point at AGM that they played a big part in its creation and Andre Traverso was responsible for it , it was an open door waiting to be pushed as he was well acquainted with SFA and Rangers skullduggery from evidence of it presented both by Res12 and a report to the UEFA Integrity site pointing to SFA as a source of concern granting licences that should not have been.

That is background but specifically from this season the amount of money that can be spent on players is limited to a % of football earnings which are specified in FSR.

The limitation for this round starts at 90% of football earnings, 80% next season and levels off at 70% in season three.

90% looks achievable for most clubs , the idea is to get them thinking how they can get down to 70%.

However if you sign a player on high wages where you have to pay full tax and NI on a 3 year or more contract then he will be on the wage bill calculation in 3 years.

So without the freedom to use non football earnings , or confetti shares as we know it, some harsh realities are beginning to dawn at Ibrox and around the football landscape.

Given Celtic negotiated that limitation , something I’ve been asking for on blogs since 2010 , that might explain our current value for money spend under Ange too.

The thing is CL income is a legitimate football earning and winning this title will help us keep ahead of anything that lot can legitimately earn and allow us to be more wage competitive season after season.

FSR has fundamentally changed the football landscape in Scotland and Celtic can only screw it up for foreseeable future . Given the effort put into FSR by the club and shareholders seeking the truth (and there might be a bit more on that to come that could be helpful) then there is no reason to return to football comes second policies.

I attended the recent League Cup Fonal at Hampden too. I’ll be 72 shortly and spent the game in extreme discomfort having been forced to stand to see the action during the 90+ minutes of game time. I was glad to sit down at half time. I was in the South Stand Lower Row RR, reasonably high up from the pitch and everybody stood having paid £44 for their tickets. I was ecstatic at our performance and result but it was not comfortable. I can only describe the relatively short walk from Hampden to Kings Park Station after the game as agonising.

I have to agree with Greenpinata and Tom McLaughlin. Elderly fans need a bit of comfort to enjoy the game. Any fans being dislodged from a seating section to accommodate standing fans need to be given seats in another section.

  18. People stand at cup finals due to adrenalin/excitement but if you try standing at a league game you are quickly moaned at to sit down. Horses for courses

And whit about the spivs that “invested” and provided loans at loan shark interest rates because they did not qualify for loans since all their assets were already hocked out, I suspect loan repayments and interest rates are eating up the majority of any income and likely to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Yup. They would have fallen foul of the old FFP break even rules because they escaped the full consequences of their unsustainable financial policies under SDM.

FSR is designed to save them from themselves as well as protect fellow clubs but so used to getting away with it have their support become they are in the early stages of grief. Denial , anger , bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Chances are they get stuck at anger.
