Protests because of Celtic

189

According to their manager, Newco are doing just fine, better then fine, in fact, it’s just that Celtic are fabulous (my interpretation, not a direct quote).

He spoke in response to fan protests at their game against Kilmarnock.  Apparently, after “55” (cough) they took their eye off the ball.

Mick Beale has a point. Celtic are fabulous, Newco win their first Scottish Cup and reached a European final; overachieving by any measure. But fans cannot be placated when losing.

It’s easy to see the folly in others. The Newco board are far from the worst option the club has. Change may not be their friend. There are zero options for stopping Celtic short of another random season. This is due future fans need to get on board or there will be a lot of banners. Protests because of Celtic could become a regular fixture.

    Absolutely spot on there, Paul!

Two decades of failure in Europe and we are supposed to be happy just because It’s-definitely-not-Rangers aren’t very good?

  2. I was in Connolly’s for the cup final.

Surrounded by a bunch of lads half my age.

The mayhem went on into the night.

Credit to the lads who reduced a wee lassie aff the flair, after slipping in her Glesga style heels and miniskirt. Brave attire for cup final. Then again, she mibbies wisnae after the football.

  3. I read a lot of stuff about them over the weekend. Their journo poster boys , Jackson, McKeown and the ither wan. Then the madness of their bloggers and those that contribute to hotline and phone ins.

It is all going to kick off soon, and indeed the sense of entilement is baffling, we deserve better is the cry, ……….. as Kevin Bridges would say HOW

HOW DO YOU DESERVE BETTER ?

Someone is controlling the narrative to be fed to the masses (sic) of ra peepel. I am going to get it is Dave King. The message is they them, the other mob, would collapse like a pack (house surely) of cards, but they didnt , well because the board didnt spend all the money, all of it, every masonic penny, every murray pound, on better players than celtic.

we have the same revenues as them , why dont we spend it all on players to go ahead of them, its easy, it worked before, the roof can wait, eddiemunster house is vanity new better players is sanity.

who once labelled them as the dumbest support in the world ?

the things that matter most to them is old firmism, being ahead of celtic is the only thing that matters, a made up 55 will be overtaken in a few short years, most trebles potentially this year more trophies than the original club also this year, scotlands most succeful club like the empire its lost.

    Yesterdays peepul,

We have beaten Barcelona AC Milan and Manchester United (all in their prime) despite coming from one of the poorest Tv regions in a tiny country with virtually no domestic competition. We have beaten Lazio, Shaktar, Benfica, Spartak, Anderlecht and Copenhagen ….. all big clubs from bigger countries.

We have reached post Xmas Europe on 8 ocassions in past 20 years. We have reached CL post Xmas 3 times which is decent for a team outside of the big 7 leagues.

You keep speaking of failure and of course we could have done better but could you define what realistically success would be in your eyes ?

  6. Wee Barry says the board might be tempted to sell up if a gazillionaire makes an offer. Lots of them are apparently just waiting to be downgraded to millionaires in the blink of an eye.

That is a fair point imo

Hopefully kicking on when we work towards adding to our trophy haul,It appears to worry them :-)).The newclub as i said to por cierto are damaged by the effect Mintys psychology had on their identities.

    I think it will be:

  9. A club with our resources should be achieving post Christmas European participation every year.

But we know who is to blame for that.

And he’s back in the building.

  10. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    St Tams,

I didn’t know hoopy the huddle hound had left the building, jinxy mascots eh

` we` ? I presume you mean Peter lawwell . If so , I certainly don`t `know` he is to blame for that. Indeed, I don`t think anyone is to `blame`.

Sometimes — maybe even often — the difference between success and failure is marginal.

  12. Why is Paul so bothered about what is comong out of Ibrox and the Scottish media?

We don’t need him to tell us. We see it every day and know how to challenge it wherever we cqn.

  13. HOT SMOKED

No blame. Just that on the day we could not beat the other team

  14. One thing is absolutely certain. During the years when Sevco were on their journey up through the lower leagues, Celtic were held back by the policies of Peter Lawell in terms of making European progress. He obviously believed that the days when Scottish teams could compete in the later stages of the European tournaments were over and his policy of just staying ahead of Sevco was introduced. This was an utter disaster for the Club. He gave us Ronny Deila and the Upper Lisbon Lions Stand was closed. Many other season ticket holders obviously stopped attending. We failed to invest in the squad in a way that would give us a better than 50/50 chance of qualifying for the CL group stages. This was a great chance of pocketing CL money year upon year and investing in the squad. It would also have given those who missed their fix from games against Sevco something to look forward to. To add insult to injury Sevco reached a European Final proving to everyone how flawed his policy was. He may have secured commercially lucrative deals for the Club but in my view he undid a lot of his good work by interference in football matters. Late signings, delayed until it was too late signings (McGinn), signings that weren’t needed (Shved), useless projects (Amido Balde) are just some examples of his botched approach. Michael Nicholson and Ange must be allowed to continue their good work without interference.

Isn’t one of the purposes of this site to highlight the reality of the Copland Road status in contrast to our own and to expose the brazen bias that is printed on the back pages and pushed on digital media?

  16. I do wonder how so many people now seem to know about the policies of Peter Lawell and why the rest of the board acquiesced.

    Beats me.

  17. what was wrong with Ronny D ?

He was on the receiving end of some of the most blatant cheating we ever had the misfortune to encounter.

    Next –

I can play the Lawwell card the other way.

He knew literally ,thousands of Celtic supporters are actually old-firmers, they want that game against a version of them more than anything else, They stopped buying season books while that thing was not in the league.

So they closed the top teir.

    Good business decision actually.

  18. Have you noticed since Peter Lawell (has he ever left)came back all the projects that have been spoken about, with the board and supporters it’s all went quiet ,I think we as ordinary Celtic Fans deserve to be treated better with those who run our club,we all can’t afford hospitality,we have to queue outside to try and gain entry to the pitiful bars they have built,if you can’t get into any of them, with a bit of luck you might get into the Superstore for a bit of warmth on a cold miserable day (again that building is to small,)I posted on here many years ago the old school should have been purchased,it could have been turned into bars restaurants, facilities etc ,but no it was demolished ,and the ground was used for the elite ,them on freebies etc ,to sum up that mob that run our club,to them we are just paying customers,a ordinary working man’s game went out the window yrs ago to be taken over by spivs.

I think we already know that, no need for Paul to go on about it with nothing new.

Your general point might be better received ( and understood) if you express it without exaggeration.

  23. St Stivs

As I said he could have compensated for the loss of games v Sevco by making a decent attempt at CL qualification. This would have compensated the Club for the loss of “£10 million per year” due to the loss of Sevco games and we would still have had a healthy profit. I refrained from mentioning the disastrous appointment of Neil Lennon and the absolutely amateurish attempt at recruitment for the managerial post.

  24. Timbhoy 163

A return to the ordinary working man’s game on unsafe terracing with the possibility of someone peeing down your leg or being injured in a crush? We romanticism the Jungle, but I’m sure no none would choose it over the facilities we have today.

I think there is a need and that need is to keep pointing the bias/cheating at every opportunity in the hope that , eventually, it will seep into the national conscience.

I am aware, though, that overkill could weaken the case.

    Hmm…
